A cozy cabin with great views

  • 4 of 5

The place has a wonderful dock with table, umbrella and chairs. There were kayaks and a paddle board, but we didn't use them. The water in the cabin has an odor. Make sure to brink drinking water. The cabin is rustic, but is fine. Plenty of screened in and outdoor space

Quiet and Peacefull

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at this house for 2 weeks and found the place to be adequate, very nice location and very quite area. The house is a little old and well worn but not too bad, depending on your expectations. One bathroom is actually accessed from the front porch and is a little chilly at times. The house is well stocked and all the appliances worked fine, a/c and heat worked good. Good place for kids and pets.

Home away from home.....again and again....

  • 5 of 5

This is my third visit to Luis' ultra charming 'cottage by the water' and I find it more and more difficult to leave every time. The home is 'old florida' through and through with a lovely view of the lake through jalousie windows which just add to it's southern charm. Plenty of space in the home to wander around barefoot and sip coffee/espresso made by the available machines in the well-appointed kitchen while getting ready to head to the dock. A real record player (that I continue to add albums to the collection every visit) is available to provide music for dancing in the moonlit living room. Awesome TV and great sofas (that can be used as extra beds too) to watch the Gator games! My always favorite thing to do is to lay in the hammock under the moss laden live oaks to watch the squirrels frolic above (couldn't find it this year, but there's always next!). Sitting at the end of the gorgeous dock by the water in the provided adirondack chairs is so very peaceful...it is a MUST experience for all the different faces Lake Santa Fe has to offer...at all times of day and all times of year. The sunsets and sunrises are breathtaking. This was my first experience staying during a cold snap in December and found the home to be very warm and cozy....blankets were available for wrapping up so we didn't miss any time by the water...I always take daily walks up and down the nearby (but not too nearby) road to gaze at all the other lake properties and dream of owning one some day. Groceries and shopping are all nearby in the quaint town of Melrose and I always stop in to see the Chiappini family at their corner gas station that's been around for eons...there is live music there on lot's of weekends. The Blue Water Bay restaurant is known for it's wonderful food, spirited bar and especially for it's Mango dressing...if they happen to have their Tres Leches Key Lime cake it's a must! We often get our order to go and take it back to the house, pour a couple of glasses of very good wine and head down to the dock to eat/watch the sunset. If you're looking for a place that is clean, spacious, very well appointed, off the beaten path, and truly a respite from a crazy busy life, this is it. I leave a piece of my soul here each and every visit. The owner Luis, is always just an email away (thanks to the great Wi-Fi), willing to help with anything you need. Luis, I can never thank you enough for sharing this wonderful home...you know I will be back next year!

Cute, cozy house with the best dock on the lake!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent four days and night at this house and would not only recommend it, but can't wait to return. It has everything you'd want from a property on Lake Santa Fe. That means lots of clear, sandy shoreline for wading or putting kayaks in the water, deeper water farther out the dock for swimming or larger boat access, great views from the house and yard and back porch, beautiful cypress trees with Spanish moss. The house has the charm of an older building, which it is, but is decorated in an eclectic and more contemporary way. It's comfortable and safe. Luis is a great owner to deal with and replies quickly to any question. And the dock is new, sturdy, well-designed for a variety of uses, and begs for you to stay there most of the time, day or night. Great spot.
