About Diane Dalton

Diane and Christopher. We live and work in Austin, TX. Chris is a PhD clinical psychologist and Diane a Speech-Language Pathologist.

We visited Bethel, ME in 2011 and knew that this was a place we want to bring our family for many years to come. Growing up in the panhandle of Texas, (Diane) and Iowa (Chris), we had NO idea that Maine was such a fabulous state to visit! We were enamored with the area and chose this beautiful cabin which we immediately remodeled, then added a screened gazebo and fire pit to better enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Each year we continue to add features and upgrade because we consider each guest a special part of our endeavors to provide a wonderful vacation.

Diane Dalton purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Diane Dalton chose Bethel - Sunday River area

Where do we begin.....Ski magazine has hailed Bethel, ME 'The Greatest Ski Town In the Universe' and '#1 Best Skiing in New England', GOLF #1 'Best Public Golf Course in the Northeast' (2014). Bethel was also listed in the top 10 'Best Outdoor Places in America', offering hiking, biking, canoeing, rafting, and Bethel's Outdoor Adventure Park.

We first visited the Bethel area in the summer of 2011. We immediately fell in love with the area and its friendly people. There were countless activities from which to choose for our 15 y/o daughter and her friend. We played golf on the spectacular Sunday River #1 Ranked (GOLF 2014) course, hiked, canoed, and white-water rafted. On the weekend, we went to Sunday River Resort where we did the zip line and went down the mountain to the brewing company, where we had delicious hamburgers and a flight of beer. Sunday River also offers hiking and mountain biking at various levels of expertise.

The restaurants were fabulous! We dined at the tavern, Suds, where we listened to great live music. Later, we ate at a world renowned 22 Broad Street 4-star restaurant, where we had wonderful Italian food. There were many cuisines available....or you can cook your own delicious meal!

We were sold once we discovered that the best snow and golf course in the Northeast is Sunday River. Our family loves both winter and summer sports so this scenic place was perfect!

What makes this cabin unique

Since 2011, when we purchased our lovely cabin, it has been such a joy to offer our guests new and beautiful features. Every year, we determine what our guests and family would enjoy and add those features/items to the cabin.

Guestbook comments from the manager

What a wonderful time we had in Bethel, Maine. I just wish we would have

had more time in that part of the country. The colors in Maine were

spectacular. Your cabin was all you said it would be and more. For myself

and my family thank you for allowing us to share your wonderful home in

Maine. You made our trip and the wedding one I will long remember.

Beautiful property, great amenities!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for a long weekend for my wife's 30th birthday. There were a total of 12 people here with plenty of room for sleeping and lounging. The hot tub and fire pit are a great touch for any relaxing you would like to do.

Cozy yet spacious cabin in the snow fit for a family of 6

  • 5 of 5

First of all I have to say that before and during our stay, Diane and I spoke quite often over text about our arrival and what was going on during our stay (which happened to be a blizzard). She was very responsive and friendly throughout our experience. I would happily stay at any of her properties. The property we stayed at this time was this beautiful cabin in the snow just outside of the White Mountains. Though the property looks just like the pictures, the pictures posted online don't do this house justice. As soon as we walked in the house, we were all in awe with how pretty and well appointed it was. I felt like I was walking into a brand-new home with brand-new furniture and decor down to the seemingly unused pots, pans, and plates to the vibrant and color coordinated washcloths, hand towels, and bath towels. However, it didn't take long for us to feel completely at home. This house was unlike any other we stayed at before in that this truly felt like our home for the time that we spent there and we were all sad to leave. There were six of us in our group: two grandmas, two parents, and two kids (18yo & 7yo). The 18yo just told me this house was his favorite and the 7yo just said he liked this house the most because of the hot tub (which we did use despite the snowy conditions) and because we regularly saw snow plows coming down our street. Our stay was originally booked for four nights, but with winter storm Stella arriving the day that we were scheduled to depart, Diane was more than accommodating and allowed us to stay an extra night (we were lucky that there wasn't another reservation booked after us). After the blizzard (over 17in of snow) was over, the neighborly snow plow plowed our driveway. I also want to mention that all the roads in the area were completely clear of snow We had everything we needed there at the house and wanted for nothing. Even the beds had memory foam padding to make sleeping the most comfortable. We were close to all the activities we took part in: skiiing, ice fishing and dog sledding. The house has wifi but it wasn't working most of the time we were there, however it didn't matter much to us because cell phone reception was excellent. I could go on and on about this house, but I don't have enough space here to do that. I will say that if we ever come back to this area, we will without a doubt stay at this house again! WE LOVED IT!

Owner's Response: We are humbled by your review and thank you so much for taking the time to list all the things you loved about the cabin! It is because of appreciative guests like you that we continue to find ways to improve your experience. We also have had many stays in Home Away properties and try to duplicate those things that we most enjoy; comfortable beds, beautiful furnishings, kitchen amenities for food prep and service, and resort quality bedding and towels. We are delighted that you felt "at home"! That is our ultimate goal! Please accept our sincere invitation to visit us again...Summer is also a great time to get away from the brutal southern heat and enjoy the mild temperatures as you experience the plethora of activities in Bethel, Maine: hiking, biking, floating the river, swimming in the gorgeous lakes, and enjoying the cabin with the screened gazebo and serene fire pit perfect to appreciate the fellowship of family and friends. We would also like to invite you to view and/or stay at our other property on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica (HA #915797) for a much different but exciting experience for large groups. You were an absolute delight to host!!! Warm regards, Diane and Chris

Everything was great. It was a pleasure working with Diane. The cabin is very nicely appointed; great care and style were taken with the details. It was really cold outside but warm and comfortable inside with the gas stove.

Thanks Diane!

Beautiful house for ski vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 3 nights on February recess and enjoyed every single minute of our staying! High ceilings in the kitchen and dining area, cozy electric fireplace, the kitchen with everything you need, very clean house, hot tub - the number one in the kid's list (xbox was the number two:-). Diane is a very nice host, she asked very quickly for every question (sometimes even before you asked which were very helpful). Hope to come back someday!

Great house for a ski trip with friends

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the house. It's about 15-20 min to Sunday river. There was plenty of room for all of us including two toddlers. The hot tub is awesome. Beds were comfy, and Diane is a great host. Thank you!

Owner's Response: You were a pleasure to correspond with as well! Thank you so much for your review of the cabin. Specifically, thanks for mentioning the comfy beds! This season I purchased long-staple cotton sheets from a highly rated company that boasts of "...the best sheets in the business." I love them so much on my bed, that I purchased them for all of the queen beds at the cabin. We would love the opportunity to host you again!! Best, Diane and Chris

Great Ski week/Maine getaway.

  • 5 of 5

Six of us had a enjoyable escape to relaxing Bethel and Sunday River for a week. Grill and kitchen met all our needs as we enjoyed delicious home cooked meals most of the week. We went out Thursday night and enjoyed prime rib @ the funky red barn followed by open mic @ SUDS. Waking up to coffee and the gas stove made it hard to head out to the slopes. After a long day skiing the hot tub was calling. 4WD/AWD recommended, there's a bit of a hill when coming and going which can be a challenge depending on conditions. With a blizzard expected on our way home we rushed out. We managed to leave a couple things behind and the owner was very responsive in working to get them back to us. Nice house. Helpful and responsive owner. Great Trip!!
