Owner purchased this cabin in 2003
Nestled at the foot of two mountains and steps away from the Skykomish River this property is spectacular. I am always happy to share this bit of heaven with others.
We have taken our family to this amazing property twice now!! We are going back again!! The town of Index is so cute. I recommend white water rafting. The owner and his lovely fiancé are wonderful people. This place cannot be beat!!!
I booked this property directly through the owner over the phone. Chris was very professional and courteous throughout the process, and he addressed all of my concerns. Initially, I was a little skeptical about booking over the phone and not directly through homeaway. However, as Chris pointed out, it saved me a small percentage charge. I was also able to verify Chris's legitimacy through Homeaway reviews and through his separate internet site that shows his other properties.
I also appreciate that he reduces the cleaning fee if you are willing to put in a little elbow grease and clean up after yourself. ...I know a lot of other homeaway rentals charge low rental costs and outrageous cleaning fees that don't reflect the work required to clean the place; to me that just seems like a way to hide costs... I can tell he has a passion for the area the property is in and sharing it with others! His prices are reasonable and he seems to value fairness.
When you come into the house, there is a entryway & an alcove with a full bed.
We found everything we needed within the fairly clean kitchen. Disappointingly, the freezer & lower cupboards were dirty.
We could not find a regular coffee pot in the kitchen, but we found it in the hall closet. We left it there with the dust bunnies & used the Keurig instead. K-cups were thoughtfully provided.
The living room was comfortable & open, with a large collection of DVDs & CDs. I understood there would be a satellite receiver, but there was not.
Unfortunately, I was unable to connect to the wifi signal with my iPad & iPhone at all.
The access to the other full bed & loft is via a climbing wall, which was not super easy. We would have appreciated a ladder.
In the queen bedroom, there is a sliding door to the deck & a closet with extra pillows.
The hall bath was nice, but there were cobwebs between the cabinet & wall. Hair care appliances overwhelmed the circuit breaker & we had to hunt to eventually find it outside the house.
The master bedroom was as pictured, with a walk-in closet, tv, DVD player, & door to the deck. (There is an additional sliding-door closet that is filled with clothes.) The king bed was firm, but not uncomfortable, with soft linens.
In the master bath, no curtains mean the beautiful shower can be viewed from the hot tub area. There are double sinks, towels, & a very tidy cedar sauna.
In the laundry room, extra linens can be found.
The hot tub was ready, but there were no outdoor lights nearby for a night time soak.
A few things about our booking process: After an inquiry email, I communicated with the owner solely via phone, including payment. Strange, but the positive reviews made me comfortable. He allowed me to leave cash on the counter for the extra guest we had, which was very helpful. During the booking phone call, he told me that there would be a cleaning fee, in addition to the nightly rate. He said we could save 1/2 the cleaning fee & check out later, if we were willing to clean up. Upon clarification, I discovered we were to sweep, mop, clean counters & appliances, wash & replace the dishes & linens. I'm not sure if it was worth the savings. The sheets took so long to dry, we ran out of time before we could get the next load of towels 100% dry, so we left an apology note.
After our stay, I received a text from the owner, thanking us for leaving everything nicely.
Overall, it is a nice place and we would return.
The Eagle's Nest was a FANTASTIC cabin to accommodate our two families with teens for a long ski weekend in late February. Once we arrived after a long flight from Chicago we did not want to leave. The home is beautifully appointed, the fireplace was lit, the bathrooms and bedrooms are luxurious. Even the teens loved climbing the wall to the loft bedroom and would stare out the windows at the view. Best of all, though was the view out back. The rushing Skykomish River instantly makes you feel relaxed and on a special vacation. We were 30 minutes away from Steven's Pass and had 2 awesome days of skiing. If you are skiing Stevens Pass, make sure you rent an AWD vehicle. When we were there WDOT was restricting passage on US 2 to cars with snow chains and AWD vehicles though we experienced some extraordinary snow. After a day of skiing, we'd hit the hot tub, listen to the river, watch the stars and wished for time to stand still. During the day you could literally just enjoy the backyard for hours. The mountain views are just beautiful. The property features lots of outdoor seating (it was cold, though in February), a beautiful fire-pit and an outdoor kitchen. We can only imagine how great it would be to be there in warmer weather. We saw bald eagles in flight and perched in the trees. If you go, stop in Gold Bar, 10 miles west of Index, for groceries BEFORE you get there. You would also like Ricco's "bake at home pizza place" just east of the grocery store. Like I said, once you get there you won't want to leave. Chris was an attentive owner and responded to our questions right away. The home was a perfect location for what we wanted to do. We could visit friends in Everett in 45 minutes and headed to Seattle for sight-seeing when we weren't skiing. A wonderful, memorable home and vacation.
There is a lot to say, but essentially, the Eagle's Nest is wonderful. We were a large group of ladies who gathered here for the weekend-once we parked, we did not leave until check out. The owner Chris was very accommodating and went so far to help us build an epic fire in the pit outside. He also connected us to a masseuse/anesthetician to do spa treatments all day long in the bungalow next door. This pure relaxation was enhanced by the amazing views of the river, trees and mountains, along with the serenity of the entire area. It is truly private and mysterious here. The house is rustic luxury and enjoyable, esp. the rock fireplace.. The outdoor deck and hot tub were awesome and the landscaping just amazing. This place is a gem and also good for larger groups (there are 2-3 other cabins/bungalows on the property). For our group there was a few concerns and not a huge deal but something to consider: the climbing wall is great for kids/young adults but no so much for "mature" adults, esp. if you need a restroom stop in the middle of the night. There are 3 beds (one king, 2 fulls) and this helps in planning sleeping arrangements. The other sleeping accommodations are 2 sofas and 2 pull out single mattresses that weren't very comfortable. The many other luxuries help to compensate for these concerns, but it's good to be aware of esp. for those in your party that desire comfortable sleeping. We'd like to come enjoy this amazing place again, but would probably rent out one of the bungalows or wolf den, so everyone can have super comfortable sleeping. One last thing-Chris is a super nice and caring guy....he helped make us feel welcomed and is quite the vacation rental host.
Just completed a beautiful weekend retreat at the Eagle's Nest property, the largest of a few managed by Blue Sky Ranch. The Eagle's Nest property more than exceeded our expectations! The place was in impeccable condition and is a very warm and cozy place set amongst the backdrop of the tranquil Skykomish River and the jagged peaks of the Northcentral Cascades. We had about 8 people in our party and the amount of space was just perfect! There were more than enough sleeping arrangements suitable for our group. The bedrooms are beautiful with views of the river and mountains from each room. The master bedroom is very spacious with a huge bathroom and sauna. There is also a full laundry room and plenty of towels and sheets. The kitchen is VERY well equipped with virtually any kitchen utensil you would need to prepare meals. The actual building is very beautifully decorated and is the result of the proprietor's long-hard work for many years. The large amount of quality wood work, iron work, and stone work, not to mention a mounted Elk head, really sets the scene as the perfect mountain retreat, easily accessible from the greater Seattle area. The fireplace and mantle area is the highlight of the living room, with detailed stonework and a remote controlled fire which keeps you nice and warm when the snow is falling outside.
The outside/deck area is also picture perfect and includes a very nice full perimeter deck, which includes a hot tub, a propane fire pit with surrounding loungers, a beautiful long cooking island and propane grill. There are also plenty of picnic tables that allow for riverside dining with the beautiful backdrop.
The hot tub on a cold night was simply amazing. It is a well-groomed probably 6 person hot tub (although can squeeze more in, for sure) with two jet settings, color-changing lights. The proprietor even had the temp set on 102 F upon our arrival! We were lucky to catch a very nice snow shower on our last night and used the wood fire pit (set on the land's edge above the river) to warm up and make smores.
In summary, this property is very well-maintained and groomed and the proprietor's attention to detail and accommodating nature makes this property a must rent. The Eagle's Nest is perfect for large or small groups and is the ideal getaway from the Seattle area. I HIGHLY recommend this property and will definitely return very soon!!! Thank you, Christ, for an unbelievable trip!!!
