About the property

Open plan 1 bed + sofa bed, kitchenette, 1 bathroom, sleeps 2-4

Come stay on a tropical beach in a charming cottage, only a short walk from Cockburn Town on the lovely peaceful island of Grand Turk. Breathtaking views, a wonderful beach, superb swimming, diving and snorkeling are right outside your front door. The combination of fun, informal restaurants, expert dive shops, friendly locals, and a relaxed pace of living makes a vacation in Grand Turk uniquely appealing. A trip to Grand Turk transports you back to the 'Old Caribbean,' before big hotels, high rises and crowds of tourists.

Enjoy dazzling water views all day, and relax with a drink or dinner while watching beautiful sunsets. The beach has small tidal pools, shade and (usually) gentle waves. No need to worry about 'reserving a beach chair' on Grand Turk. Instead, miles of virtually empty beaches on the western shore offer a tranquility that is hard to find in the modern world.

This house is part of Island Passage, which has this cottage, a three bedroom, two bath house (listing number 3628761), and a one bedroom unit.

The open plan cottage has a fully functional kitchenette, a large screened porch with a lounging and dining area, ceiling fans and air conditioning. The fenced in yard protects the landscaping from wandering horses and cows. it is literally a few steps away through your gate to the shade of the Casuarina trees on the beach. You can beachcomb and snorkel in front of the cottage, get picked up by a dive boat for a fantastic experience on Grand Turk's Wall, stroll into town (150 yards away) to wander down Duke Street, or rent a bike or hire a taxi to go a little further afield.

Nice but needs some TLC

  • 4 of 5

Much of this cottage was as described: the supplies were excellent, kitchen was adequately equipped, the bed was comfortable, the verandah was terrific, the location was excellent, a beautiful beach was right outside the fence, the water was clear blue and there was a good swimming area.

However, the cottage needed some TLC. The shower control was bizarre, you could never tell if it was going to be hot or cold, strong stream or weak drizzle. You could never tell if turning it right or left was going to make it hotter or colder. We brought it to the agent's attention and a plumber came but it was going to be a major three day repair job. No one's fault but just an example of the needed work. A loss of water was quickly remedied, on a weekend evening, though when the water was restored is was with very low pressure. That was improved over the next few days. The screens were torn in several places and/or separating from the frames; a fan pull had been broken off the fan over the bed (a tall person could reach the remaining piece; a shorter person had to climb onto the bed.) Otherwise the fans were excellent. Again brought to the agent's attention but not repaired while we were there. Finally we found the futon rather uncomfortable just for sitting on; there were two mattresses on it and the top one tended to slip down over the front edge. It was heavy and difficult to shift it back up into position. We did not sleep on it so cannot comment about that.

For a longer stay, be aware that there are no laundry facilities on the premises. Other arrangements can be made. Also the small, but well functioning, 'fridge means frequent shopping trips. This was not a serious problem as there is a reasonably good grocery store just a few minutes walk away. There are neighbours very nearby, closer than the other units on the property, which may not be evident from the photos. One was aware of their coming and going but it was not an annoyance.

This is a lovely place. We enjoyed our month-long stay. We hope it will receive the attention it needs to warrant a more fully positive review.

Owner's Response: We finally got a multi day break in rentals to replace the shower controls, (which puts the shower out of commission for several days). We also addressed the other small issues, and we are working on a new futon mattress! Update: We got the futon mattress freshened up an added some big comfy pillows!

Peaceful and Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

This rental is exactly as advertised. Everything you need, nothing you don't, clean, and quiet. The whole rental experience was easy and the owner and property manager were very communicative. The location of the property is just awesome! You're walking distance (minutes) from downtown Cockburn Town, and right on a beautiful stretch of beach. We couldn't have been a happier with our stay.

Perfect Island Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I travel often and decided to go somewhere new for his 40th Birthday. I found this beachfront cottage and was beyond pleased with my choice! The cottage is a perfect size for couples and had everything you need. I dont think we needed anything more than what was supplied already! It was a pleasant surprise to find items like dish soap, salt and pepper, coffee and coffee filters already stocked (as its such a waste to have to buy them for a short weeks visit- you can never use a whole bottle of dish soap or 50 coffee filters in that time!)

The property owners sent us a packet of useful information prior to arriving. Upon our arival, we met Deb, who was extremely helpful with getting us settled in- she even helped use arrange a taxi ahead of time :) From getting to know whats around to which restaurants have events on specific nights, Deb was a valuable resource!

We rented bikes from the dive shop that is only about a two minute walk from the cottage. We were able to bike around most of the island and explore. The dive shop folks were very helpful and famliy-like. They pointed us in the right direction for the best snorkeling and where to find other things we needed. All of the town restaurants/bars are within walking distance (excpet Bohio, which is about a 10 minute bike ride). We could even walk to the liquor store! The larger grocery store is a little long for a walk but is about a 5-10 minute bike ride, easily do-able.

The cottage had everything we look for in a vacation rental- on the beach (and we were the ONLY people on it 99% of the time- which we loved), close to dining and necessities, and best of all- very private and low key!

The porch was perfect for coffee in the morning, or wine in the evening, playing cards and relaxing- and thanks to the internet we could use the international music radio app "jango" (like pandora but can be accessed outside of the USA).

We have already discussed that we plan on returning to this relaxing oasis. One of our favorite trips by far!!!

Great Location!!

  • 4 of 5

My Husband & I stayed at the cottage over Christmas Holiday 2013. We had previously stayed on the North side of the island & decided to stay in town this year. The Beachfront Cottage was the perfect location, as it is a short walk to town, Blue Water Divers (highly recommend), Sandbar restaurant and Secret Garden restaurant. We met Deb, who checked us in & answered all of our questions. She was very nice & very helpful:-) The cottage was clean, with a comfortable queen size bed. The living space is cozy for couples with a futon for late night TV & an easy internet access--if you feel you must stay connected. The kitchen is a kitchenette with various pots/pans; you will do just fine if you are a "True Cook":-) The Bathroom is "galley style". It had plenty of towels & soap. The front porch is wonderful for morning coffee, afternoon breaks or wine before dinner. The Beachfront is a short walk across the yard. As always the beaches in Grand Turk are just beautiful! with sparkling, multi-shades of blue water and white sand. The sunsets are never to be missed, as pictures barely capture what you eyes behold! You are able to snorkel off the beach which is a plus:-) Over all we enjoyed our stay very much! I know we will be returning soon!

Amazing Spot!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in this beachfront cottage. The cottage has everything that you could need, the beach is quiet and stunning, and location is great! The cottage was very clean, checking in was simple and management was very welcoming. The owners were a delight to deal with, refunding the deposit right after our stay. This is was a great spot and we hope to be returning again soon!

Home Away from Home!

  • 5 of 5

This beach bungalow couldn't be better! It's nestled in the corner of the property with the sea right out your front door. A beautiful large screened in porch is perfect for morning coffee, afternoon naps and star gazing at night. Everything you need to relax and enjoy the island is at your finger tips! The bungalow is quiet, clean and the airco amazing when you need it. You'll arrive, unpack and feel like you never want to go home. A quick walk down the beach takes you to the local establishments for lunch or dinner. The kitchen works great for cooking if you prefer to stay home. Your beach is beautiful and sunsets will take your breath away. Dive shops are right down the street. This property is what you are looking for to escape and relax. I'll be back for my next stay on Grand Turk!

The map location is not entirely accurate. We are the second to last house at the southern end of Duke Street. Or the first property south of the Osprey Beach Hotel. I guess even Google Maps has its limitations! The cottage is on the same property as our larger 3 bedroom house listing number 3628761.
