Salt Spring Island Cottage Rental Photos and Description

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sleeps up to 3

Sip on your FREE margaritas while soaking in the hot tub at this private Cottage while watching Eagles and Ravens soar above. Our Cottage and Casita are located in the south centre of the island, tucked away and surrounded by large trees. These ocean view cottages are an oasis - ideal for a romantic getaway, artist or writers retreat. They celebrate the art and life of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo with their Mexican themed decor.

Even on the dullest days of Winter these cottages shine brightly as they have open concept design with high ceilings and skylights. The fully equipped kitchens are stocked with breakfast foods to get you started on your vacation - including local free range eggs, croissants and muffins, coffee and tea. You can have breaky when and how you want to. The Cottage has Cable TV, a TV/DVD and stereo with movie and music selections. Excellent wireless internet and cell phone coverage. The Cottage is pet friendly with a community orchard, beautiful shell beach and rainforest walk - all dog friendly and within a 5 minute stroll. There is a fenced in yard for pets and we supply dog bowls, a welcome treat, towel and cover for the couch.

Note: The address is incorrect on this listing, but VRBO will not allow us to change it. The cottage is down the street closer to the beach. If our cottage is booked, our Casita (the 2 Queen Bed cottage) may still be open - <>

Cottage Surroundings: The Rainforest walk, just up the road, has a unique riparian system full of birds, frogs and plant life that is rarely seen elsewhere. Dogs are allowed on leash. Beddis beach is one of our only shell beaches on Salt Spring, very sunny in the morning to late afternoon. We are on the sunrise side of the island. Sunrises can be viewed right out the front window from the Queen size bed in the cozy bedroom. There are lots of wonderful places to sit and take in the scenes of nature this sweet little cottage has to offer. Muskoka chairs on the front deck, the hot tub which is sunken into the deck, a table for two on the deck facing the ocean view and a bench in the pond garden all offer scenic places to sit and enjoy the space.

Salt Spring Island : Salt Spring Island (SSI) is nestled in the Gulf Islands between Crofton BC which is near Duncan, BC and Sidney BC which is near Victoria BC. It has three ferry terminals, including Long Harbour that bring cars and passengers in from Tsawassen, near Vancouver BC. SSI also has three airlines that bring passengers into our downtown harbour from Vancouver (near the International airport). We highly recommend this for International travellers as it is easy and quick (20 minute flight) after a long flight over here and you can rent a car island. We also do ferry pickups and drop offs for a fee. We have so many customers say 'Salt Spring has so many things to offer, a two day stay just doesn't do it' and the tend to come back over and over again! It has the kind of magic we all seek and can't seem to get enough of in these hectic living times. We highly recommend you plan for a week or longer, especially from March to October as there are many outdoor, art and culture events happening.

About Tracy Harrison and Carl Borgstrom

Carl doesn't look like Diego so we opted for a Frida with Trotsky painting and didn't go as far as the uni brow on Tracy! We love to travel and when we do we like to hunker down in a private location with full kitchen, so that is the kind of accommodation we wanted to offer our guests. We are a bed and breakfast, but we don't serve breakfast. Instead we stock the kitchens with enough breakfast food choices to get you going when you first arrive. We have two cottages and a 2 bedroom villa now to offer families and couples a few choices. Being artists ourselves we wanted to offer our guests an aesthetic and unique vacation rental. Frida and Mexico worked beautifully for us and we hope it works for you too!

Tracy Harrison and Carl Borgstrom purchased this cottage in 1996

Why Tracy Harrison and Carl Borgstrom chose British Columbia Gulf Islands

Both of our Beddis Road properties have ocean views and are close to a rainforest walk, one of the best Beaches on Salt Spring Island and a sweet orchard park.

What makes this cottage unique

Have a unique and special experience in our mexican inspired cottages and villa. Our guests always seem delighted by the aesthetics and personal touches to the accommodations we provide

Best cottage experience in the Gulf Islands

  • 5 of 5

Carl and Tracey know how to make their cottage a 'home from home'. Comfortable, artistic, and welcoming, the roomy cottage has modern appliances, thoughtful layout and a quiet location. Their cleaner is meticulous, and the cottage was warm and the fridge was well stocked when we arrived in the early afternoon.

Their cottage guidelines are clear and thoughtful, and they have an impressive array of books, games and videos. Carl was very friendly and a font of knowledge, and we would/will recommend this property to our friends.

We enjoy hiking, bird watching, and visits to local galleries. Salt Spring has some fine walks, grand wild life and excellent galleries...we recommend the local pub, Mobys, and the Rock Salt Cafe.

A lot of character on Salt Spring Island

  • 4 of 5

We rented both the cottage and casita. Both are beautiful properties close enough for family activities and meals but far enough to give a little privacy and independence to the 3 teenagers with us. The hot tub was wonderful after a morning run or a day of exploring the island. Most days we walked to Beddis beach maybe a 7 min. stroll away. Our large dog enjoyed exploring the generous fenced in yard of the cottage. Overall a fun and relaxing experience!

Owner's Response: Hi Birgitte Great to hear how well it worked for you in both the cottage and the casita. We were impressed with how clean your teenage daughters left the casita! Glad you had lots of relaxation and quiet time at the cottage. Sounds like you got in lots of beach time too! Beddis Beach is one of the best on the island! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience with others and we hope to see you again sometime.

Everything you could ask for. Just as advertised and more. 10 minutes away from Ganges and oh so private and quiet. A great value. We have already recommended it to friends. We'll be back.

Absolutely magic!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in Frida's cottage went beyond all our expectations. Its located 5 mins to Beddis Beach, surrounded by forest, deer, has a fabulous deck for barbequeing, with a private hot tub....and from the bedroom you can see the ocean. Tracy and Carl's attention to detail is impressive, we hope to come back next year!

The cottage was perfect for our 9th wedding anniversary. It was a little vacation rental and a little B & B. Perfect. The start-up food lasted our 3 mornings. The Margarita's in the Freezer were delicious. They made a virgin margarita for my husband. We loved the wood burning fireplace and all of the wood supplied. It was private but we knew if we needed anything the owners would deal with it immediately. I would stay again and we highly recommend it! The beach and the orchard are just a short walk away. We love the Tree House Cafe and ended up eating there twice in our 3 day stay. We loved everything about Freda's Cottage!

Our New Favourite

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have stayed at a variety of cottages and cabins on Vancouver Island and Saltspring Island. Carl and Tracy's Frida's Cottage is now at the top of our list given our needs/wants: no children, privacy, space for a big dog, hot tub, wood burning stove, and peace and quiet. The following review addresses only the cottage, not the Casita or the Villa.

The Cottage is equipped with everything you could possibly need and more. It has a lovely fenced garden for your dog, ample deck space, including a hot tub with a perfect sunrise view, a wood burning stove, and its own zen garden for meditation or contemplation.

The hosts, Carl and Tracy, are friendly and only there when you need them, making this a very private retreat for couples. The Casita is located higher up on the same property as the Cottage, but has its own separate entrance and privacy fencing, so tenants of each do not really ever see each other.

We will definitely be returning, many times. This is one of those gems you do not want to share with anybody so that you can always have access to it, but you realize you need to share it so that it will always be there for you and others to enjoy in the future.
