I am a software sales executive from New England who has lived in Los Gatos for almost 10 years. My four children are going to the fine Los Gatos schools and partaking in the many activities that this community offers.
John Whitney purchased this cottage in 2004
Being from New England, I grew accustomed to the beautiful old word town centers. When we moved to California we sought out a town that had a town center with strong character and charm.
Everything located within walking distance is beautiful 100+ year old Downtown Los Gatos. Cottages have a relaxed, vacation-type feel.
Not kept up inside or out. A bad experience! We moved after one night to a clean cute Motel in downtown Los Gatos for the rest of are 4 day stay.
The cabin is walking distance to everything. Only one caution for light sleepers, the highway noise is very loud.
My daughter and I relocated to Los Gatos for my consulting assignment without my husband (who was out of the country on business). We found the cottage to be very cozy and also a perfect location for my daughter to walk back and forth to school. In addition, we have a small dog that John accommodated without any issues.
John is admirable and a man of his word. At the end of our lease term, there was a few days gap between the end of our lease and when we were to leave for summer break. He assisted us in relocating our personal items as well as secured alternate accommodations.
The location was great. There was a lot of traffic noise but it was easy to get used to. There was a nice touch of having the lights on and jazz music playing when I arrived. The owner's emails were nice. Like I said the location was great. Downtown Los Gatos is really cute and the people friendly. My dogs really appreciated having a park nearby.
Unfortunately, there were several broken items and I felt that I was definitely overcharged for cleaning fees. The place was not clean. I won't go into details here but I made a long list of fixable issues.
This is a relatively basic cottage with all the amenities you might want staying on vacation. The bed is comfortable and the cottage is overall clean. John is very good about solving issues and wants to make sure you have a good stay, whatever it takes. It really is a great little cottage to stay for an extended period of time.
Since it is close to the highway, it does get loud and the windows don't block all that much noise. If you are a light sleeper, this probably isn't for you, but it was an acceptable trade off and we got used to the noise after a few nights.
It was great to find a flexible cottage that is walking distance to the city, trails and allows dogs. We would recommend staying here.
We stayed in this property for almost a month and its ideal location (located in downtown Los Gatos, so restaurants, cafes, shops, parks,..., available within walking distance) as well as all the utilities provided (kitchen utilities, appliances, toiletries,...), make of this property a perfect option for short and mid term renters. The property is real close to the highway, so you must get used to the noise of traffic, but we didn't find it an unsurmountable inconvenience. The cottage is considerably spacious for two sleeps and even though neither the furniture nor the appliances are state-of-the-art, everything worked fine and we didn't encountered any problem (good quality x price relation).
- Ground Zero Downtown! downtown restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, bakeries, shops
- Seconds to Farmers Market (Sunday) and Free jazz concerts (Summer Wednesday evenings)
- 2 minutes walk to mountain walking trail
- 3 minutes drive to Vasona Park (Carousel, Lake, etc)
- 30 minutes drive to Ocean (Santa Cruz)
- 60 minutes drive to San Francisco
