Overview

Puntarenas House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2½ bathrooms, sleeps 6 + double air bed if required

Imagine being 4 levels up, nestled in Costa Rica’s spectacular, pristine canopy. Welcome to Jungle Roost! Enjoy your morning coffee on the wraparound deck watching monkeys foraging and making their way across the treetops.

This 2,500 ft2 home has 3 bedrooms and 2 ½ bathrooms, and is fully and comfortably furnished. It has floor to ceiling windows with unobstructed views designed to bring the outside into the open and welcoming interior. The architectural design of this unique home includes numerous sliding glass doors that open to allow breezes through all 3 floors and bedrooms. Sliding screens and ceiling fans keep A/C use to a minimum.

The ground level has ample parking for your SUV, a laundry room equipped with washer and dryer, and a surf board should you be so inclined. The main level includes a spacious great room, fully-equipped kitchen with breakfast bar/island, deck surrounding the living area, and two piece bathroom.

Walk up one level to the expansive master bedroom with queen size bed, sliding doors to the wraparound deck, and massive windows for unobstructed views of the canopy wildlife. This level also has a full bathroom with a glass block, walk-in shower.

Walk up another level to the fourth floor where there are two lovely bedrooms with queen size beds, a full bathroom with a glass block, walk-in shower. Both bedrooms have floor to ceiling sliding glass doors on two walls providing access to the wraparound deck where there is a large outdoor chesterfield for quiet reading or naps. Don’t be surprised if a monkey (or 10!) sneaks past. Stay still and they will just amble by looking to jump from the balcony to the nearest tree. You will be tempted to feed them but please refrain – there is plenty of healthy food in the jungle.

The nearby beach is gorgeous and quiet. If you are in the mood for more people, funky bars, good restaurants, surf schools, groceries parasailing and fun shopping, just stroll 15 or 20 minutes along the white sand to Manuel Antonio.

Most wonderful house imaginable

  • 5 of 5

Our party was three adult couples and Jungle Roost was everything we’d dared to hope it would be - and much, much more! The house is set into a hillside, surrounded by flowering shrubs, lipstick palms and magnificent trees. Looking out over the valley you feel you’re as far away from civilization as you can get. Birds flit through the trees, howler monkeys call out, iguanas sun on the garden path and it is so peaceful. But if you walk back up the driveway to the little road, you’re only a ten minute walk from a marvelous beach (great breakers, exciting bodysurfing), or, going the other way, to a well-supplied mini mart and several very pleasant restaurants with good food/drinks and spectacular views. The house is stunning in an understated way. Not “over-decorated” at all. All living space is oriented to bring the views to you. The kitchen is nicely-stocked. We cooked at home most nights (there’s a good grill), eating by candlelight under the poolside gazebo. The pool is heavenly. It gets plenty of sun but always has some shade depending on the time of day. The kitchen blender did a great job making fresh pina coladas (coconuts and pineapple from the farmers market) to keep us cool and happy as we lounged around. Can’t say enough about how well-appointed and tasteful this house is. It is open and airy and feels like one with nature - just ask the capuchin monkeys, who came for a visit every afternoon! Highly recommend the horseback ride up to Nauyaca Falls (even if, like some of us, you’ve never been on a horse in your life); also souvenir shopping and lunches in Quepos; visiting the weekend farmers market; and driving over to the surf town ofJaco for the day). Having a rental car was nice and we listed the rest of our party as extra drivers so we all could share it. Our landlady Heather was such a pleasure to deal with during the booking process – always prompt to reply, with thorough, detailed responses and all kinds of helpful suggestions. She made it so easy. Plus the house’s delightful local “concierge”, Elizabeth, who met us on arrival to welcome and orient us, was always just a quick text away to book a tour or to give us her personal favorite restaurant suggestions. It made everything about our visit so pleasant and stress-free. Can’t recommend this house enough and everyone in our party agrees –Jungle Roost is one-in-a-million. Heather, thank you for sharing your lovely home and your magical corner of Costa Rica with us. We will be back!

Owner's Response: I am so pleased that you had such a wonderful vacation. It is especially gratifying to know that you enjoyed the gardens. Much work has gone into planting species that attract wildlife and contribute to their well being. I am delighted that you enjoyed the house and surrounding area. All the best, Heather Soame

Even Better in Person

  • 5 of 5

Family of 4 just returned from a week at the Jungle Roost & cannot say enough good things. The pictures (of the exterior) don't do this place justice. The gardens seem to be an ongoing project and thus the grounds are even more beautiful than pictured, and the outdoor furniture has been upgraded and added to. You seriously cannot imagine a better outdoor area - so many little nooks and crannies to explore and enjoy as well as large gathering areas. And yes, all the animals pictured are there and plentiful and the salt water pool is wonderful. Another pleasant surprise was the beach accessibility. It is very close down a dirt road, easy to drive to and park at (or I'd imagine a somewhat challenging walk due to terrain & heat). You are on the far north end of the main public beach, which is the quiet end. Even on a weekend in high season, it was very pleasant (and I'm pretty crowd averse), and midweek it was heavenly! Also, the surf at this point was gentle enough for our children to enjoy. You are also very close to some good restaurants (shout out to Fred's Place - my kids' favorite), a small grocery, bank & pharmacy - it's all just up the road and yet the house feels remarkably isolated, due to the terrain and lush flora. Finally, Heather & her manager Ellie were very kind and willing to help with any arrangements or recommendations you may need. In closing, the only "negative" to be aware of is the place is definitely NOT toddler friendly (open railings with big drops indoors & out). My youngest is 7 and he was fine, but much younger and I'd be pretty nervous. Overall, we just loved this place!

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. So often guests promise to write a review once they return home but busy lives take over resulting in fewer reviews than hoped for. Your review is much appreciated. My wonderful property manager/concierge Elizabeth and I were delighted to help you. You will be please to know that Marcelo (handy-man extraordinaire) will be installing additional railings this week to make Jungle Roost more toddler friendly. You have also spurred me on to update my photos so that more of the property can be seen. They should be posted by mid-may. Wishing you all the best, Heather Soame (owner)

Beautiful property walking distance to beach

  • 5 of 5

This property was perfect for my family gathering (6 adults). We enjoyed the beautiful home, stunning foliage, and private pool. Delightful monkeys (and sloths, birds and other animals) came to visit and kept us entertained. Heather checked in regularly and helped us arrange activities from scuba to guided park tours to horseback riding. She gave us tips about shopping, eating out and whatever help we needed. The property is secluded but also close enough to the beach and shops that it is convenient (we had a car as the Manuel Antonio/Quepos area is quite hilly and spread out - but also taxis can pick you up at the house when needed). Recommended!

A haven in the heart of Manuel Antonio

  • 4 of 5

We spent a wonderful two weeks at Jungle Roost with our children (8 and 10). Regular visits by 3 different species of monkeys (capuchins, howlers, and our favourite friends...a circus troop of endangered squirrel monkeys/mono titi), as well as a mother and baby sloth, resident pair of agoutis, birds and iguanas. Very private property with a refreshing pool and beautiful garden, yet so close to all that MA has to offer. Heather was a wonderful host, available to answer our questions and provide local information on tours, restaurants and shopping. Pura Vida!

The name says it all!

  • 5 of 5

Within 10 minutes of arrival we had monkeys on the deck and a 3 toed sloth on a nearby tree. The pool is large for a private home and the water was the warmest we've ever had in Costa Rica. This place is completely private. The house and amenities where beyond our expectations (by a long shot). Beds were very comfortable with AC in each room. Kitchen was very well equipped with everything you need. Heather was at our beckon call if we needed anything. Look no further than the Jungle Roost for your next stay. We'll be back again.

Paradise...LOVED the Jungle Roost!

  • 5 of 5

Just spent a fabulous week in Manuel Antonio at Jungle Roost with my husband, 4 children (in their 20's) and one significant other. Heather is a friendly, gracious and attentive owner, who was at our beck-and-call for any questions big or small. This home offered everything we could have wanted. The house is beautiful from both an architectural and decorating standpoint. It is also perfectly situated so that you feel privacy / seclusion, yet the town and the beach were a 10 minute walk. Best of both worlds. We loved putting on some music and swimming in the pool at night under the stars. We saw 2 varieties of monkeys, Toucans (and many other birds) and butterflies at the house - the monkeys definitely put on a show that was exciting to watch. Have your camera handy!! We did an ATV tour in Jaco and the ADR "10 in 1" tour in Manuel Antonio and both were so much fun. The beach is beautiful and was not crowded. We had a 4WD (recommend) SUV which allowed us to bring a cooler and all our gear to the beach very easily. We used a company recommended by Heather for some Parasail and jetski fun one day. Very, very memorable vacation - HIGHLY recommended this amazing home!
