Jungle Roost, a beautifully appointed 4 story tree house near the beach

Bedrooms 3
Space 3,000 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, sleeps 6 to 8 (extra beds available)

Imagine being 4 levels up, nestled in Costa Rica’s spectacular, pristine canopy. Welcome to Jungle Roost!

Enjoy your morning coffee on the wraparound deck watching monkeys foraging and making their way across the treetops.

This 2,500 ft2 home has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, and is fully and comfortably furnished. It has floor to ceiling windows with unobstructed views designed to bring the outside into the open and welcoming interior. The architectural design of this unique home includes numerous sliding glass doors that open to allow breezes through the house. There are ceiling fans and AC throughout the house.

The ground level has ample parking, a laundry room equipped with a washer and dryer. The main level includes a spacious great room, fully-equipped kitchen with breakfast bar/island, deck surrounding the living area, and bathroom. The outdoor dining gazebo is a little piece of paradise.

Walk up one level to the expansive master bedroom with queen size bed, sliding doors to the wraparound deck, and massive windows for unobstructed views of the canopy wildlife. This level also has a full bathroom.

Walk up another level to the fourth floor where there are two beautiful decorated bedrooms with queen size beds and a full bathroom. Both bedrooms have floor to ceiling sliding glass doors on two walls providing access to the wraparound deck where there is a large outdoor chesterfield for quiet reading or siestas. Don’t be surprised if a monkey (or 10!) sneaks past. Stay still and they will just amble by looking to jump from the balcony to the nearest tree. You will be tempted to feed them but please refrain – there is plenty of healthy food in the jungle.

The nearby beach is gorgeous and quiet. If you are in the mood for more people, funky bars, good restaurants, surf schools, groceries parasailing and fun shopping, just stroll 15 or 20 minutes along the white sand to Manuel Antonio.

About Heather Soame

My name is Heather Soame. I am a retired school teacher and school vice principal. I love landscaping and animals. The two work hand in had as I have developed Jungle Roost into a botanical garden that attracts an enormous variety of birds, butterflies, 3 species of monkeys, sloths, iguanas and much more. I purchased Jungle Roost because of its private jungle location and close proximity to one of Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches. My staff all love the property and enjoy working with me to keep Jungle Roost a wonderful place to be.

Heather Soame purchased this house in 2000

Why Heather Soame chose Manuel Antonio

It is so private yet close to all amenities. I looked all over Costa Rica and this was the only property I wanted. I was very lucky to find it and be able to buy it.

What makes this house unique

I stumbled upon Jungle Roost when I was walking to the beach one day. There was no for sale sign but I couldn't get the amazing setting and architecture out of my mind. After looking at many places for sale I finally told the real estate agent that the house I loved was not for sale. I described it to him and he said, "You're in luck. It is for sale we just haven't posted a sign yet. And the rest is history.

Private and full of wildlife

  • 5 of 5

First the property is taken care of and managed by the owner Heather. She clearly takes great pride in keeping up the home and property.

If you are someone who does not like the sound of Howler Monkeys early in the morning (like 5:30) this may not be the place for you. The monkeys also come right up on the deck and roof so if this makes you uncomfortable look somewhere else

If the above is not an issue one can not go wrong here, it is a fantastic value and will not disappoint. It is also walking distance from restaurants and a fantastic beach.

great host, beautiful property,

  • 5 of 5

We arrived from Toronto at @ 2:00 am and the owner's property manager met us on the road a mile away from the property to be sure we found the house okay. He had purchased groceries for us and the fridge was well stocked when we arrived. After a quick rundown on the home's operation it was time to crash. Great service for weary travellers after a 5 hour flight to San Jose and a 2 1/2 drive !

Luis was always a quick call away to take care of any issues we had. He was also available to arrange excursions for us. The owner, Heather, is very organized , easy to contact and answers any questions promptly.

We had gone to Costa Rica to fish and to do eco tours. Fishing was phenomenal ! Mackeral, Jack Crevelle, Roosterfish, Rainbow runners, Snappers, Groupers, Tuna, Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, and Marlin. There are numerous eco options nearby. There was however no need to leave the property to take an eco tour. We could watch it all from the balconies or the pool. Monkeys everyday, a sloth for 5 days , toucans and other birds , even a couple of resident iguanas ! Lovely landscaped gardens.

Accommodations were clean and comfortable with multiple viewing spots of the birds and animals. Good for 6 people. 2 1/2 bathrooms. Well equipped kitchen.

The location was very quiet and a short drive or walk to a very private beach and the many fine restaurants in Manuel Antonio. There were also a number grocery stores nearby.

The A/C and fans and location in the forest kept the building cool. The pool was welcomed after a hot day on the water . January temperatures of 75-85 F. A couple of short showers at night or late afternoon.

It was sad to leave and we hope to be back soon ! Great place to chill out and relax . Highly recommended .

Costa Rican Jungle Paradise

  • 5 of 5

My family of 5 recently stayed at Jungle Roost in Manuel Antonio. We have nothing but great things to say about the house and its amenities. Heather, the owner, and Luis, our concierge, were wonderful and very accommodating. The house itself is more beautiful than you can imagine and very comfortable. The pictures do not do it justice. The wildlife is daily and does not disappoint. The gardens are wonderful and exotic. The best part was sitting outside every morning listening and watching the wildlife while sipping our coffee. The kids enjoyed the private pool everyday after a long day exploring. It is a true hidden gem in Manuel Antonio. Playitas Beach is right down the road and was my families favorite of the three beaches we went to that week. Luis was great and went above and beyond during our week there. He set up our canopy zip line tour with Canopy Safari and a whitewater rafting tour with Amigos del Rio. I highly recommend both tours. Luis was always a text or call away should we have any questions or concerns. My family stayed the prior year at a bungalow at Tulemar just up the road and we all agreed Jungle Roost was a much better option and provided for a perfect week's stay. I would recommend Jungle Roost to anyone. You will not be disappointed. We can't wait to go back. Pura vida!!

Great week in the middle of the rainforest!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a week at jungle roost and cannot say enough good things about it. It's location is fantastic. You are just a kilometer down the road from several restaurants and shops, so it could not be more convenient. In the other direction, there is a great beach that is far less crowded than many others we have been to in Costa Rica. Down at the bottom of the hill, there is a nice gentleman who will watch your car as well as rent you beach chairs. We found him to be reliable and helpful.

The house itself is very well put together. It is a tall three stories with lots of outside living space that put you right in the middle of the jungle. Literally every morning, troops of monkeys will travel through the area. There is a sloth that lives in a tree right next to the driveway. There's really not much of a need to go anywhere to see the wildlife. It will all come right to you.

The house is simple, clean, and well appointed. Everything was functional and in good working order. We cooked only a couple of times, but found everything we needed there. Ellie, the concierge and property manager, could not of been more helpful. She gave us many fantastic tips. She helped us in booking a few excursions as well too. We strongly recommend the waterfall tour and the rainmaker tour and in taking her advice in general.

For about $50 a night more than a good hotel room in town, you get to have this entire house to yourself. We did laundry and came home with clean clothes. We were able to relax at our house and enjoy the evening whatever we wanted to.

Our only advice would be to make sure your phone and mapping apps work and to follow them explicitly. We got lost when leaving San Jose coming to the house. Ellie gave us good advice, and were able to find our way back just fine. Also, if you were new to this part of the world, you cannot put on too much sunscreen. We applied every hour on the hour, and still got a little burnt.

One final thought, this would be an excellent first stop for a family that is new to using VRBO or those new to traveling to Costa Rica. Everything is accessible and there are many modern conveniences when a couple minutes from the house. The English language skills of the locals in the area is typically quite good and we survived just fine with tourist Spanish.

In summary, excellent property an excellent experience!

Paradise in Manuel Antonio

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for opening your Manuel Antonio home to our group. We had an excellent time! Your home is as described - a beautiful jungle cottage with all the amenities - Walking distance to the beach, to great restaurants, minisuper, bank, and a very short drive/taxi to activities such as hiking in the park, surfing or going out at night. We found your home clean and very comfortable with a great jungle vibe. We were especially impressed with your young garden project - it would be great to see it in the future as it begins to grow out!. Ellie was an excellent host and made sure we were well acquainted with the local area. The monkeys were very inquisitive and fun to watch. We all had pictures taken of a turn on the swing! We spent a lot of time on the pool deck just chillin'.

For families with young children or those who find stairs a challenge the open stairways might pose a concern, although there is a pullout and washroom with shower on the main floor.

An excellent vacation experience! Merci Heather and Ellie!

Unforgettable birthday trip

  • 5 of 5

We all agreed this was the nicest house we have rented. We came to CR to celebrate my daughters 16th birthday, she wanted to see monkeys and Jungle Roost did not disappoint. The house had everything you could ask for on vacation, including spectacular views. The pool was delightful, we walked to the beautiful almost private beach each day, were visited by lots of birds, all three types on monkeys in the area and sloths. The house is beautifully decorated and very comfortable for our family of 4. Ellie the property manager was so helpful in making recommendations for our excursions and booking them for us so all we had to do was wait to be picked up. All our our excursions were exactly what we wanted and we felt comfortable knowing we were in good hands. Heather, the owner was there upon our arrival and gave us numerous tips during our stay.the house is easily walkable to great restaurants. Would recommend this property to anyone wishing to visit the area.
