Quaint and private, this split-level apartment provides quality and comfort and a feel for the real Hawaiian lifestyle. Casual, indoor/outdoor living with open beam ceilings, bamboo and tile flooring and granite countertops accentuate the cozy design.

Pockets of jungle nearby echo the exotic sounds of myna birds, cardinals, finches and coquie frogs, while the open park affords an ocean view of an ever changing skyline and ocean movements. It's balmy breezes mixing scents of surf and flowers captivate the spirit and encourage both exploration and relaxation. . Dark nights display a star-studded universe enjoyable from inside or outside on the deck or private rear yard.

A perfect get-away to escape the stress of modern living or for the more active and adventurous many activities to enjoy ocean and mountains.

What to do: Life is slower, but ripe with the diversity of the Big Island. One can enjoy rarely traveled jungle roads, creation in the making with new black sand beaches and varying volcano activity, or view the world from Mauna Kea’s Observatories high above around 13, 700 ’elevation.

An island of secluded beaches, tropical forests, and 11 of the earths 13 climate zones offers incredible hiking trails, scenery and viewing of exotic birds and plants found nowhere else. Vintage Hilo Town and Pahoa offer a glimpse of older Hawaii with early century buildings, banyan trees, farmers markets and a strong dose of the Aloha Spirit.

Perfect piece of paradise

  • 5 of 5

Gary and Karen's little tropical bungalow was the perfect little piece of paradise my wife and I were looking for! It was nestled in a quiet little neighborhood within viewing distance of the ocean. The lanai was awesome. You could sit out there rain or shine because of the roof overhang. With the awesome view of the ocean we could have spent all day out there! (The chairs could use some new cushions for comfort but that didn't stop us from playing card games until the sun went down). We also took several walks through the neighborhood and visited the "beach" park nearby (there really are no sandy beaches on this side of the big island but plenty of places with amazing views of the ocean)

The inside of the unit had everything we needed to make our stay totally comfortable. The kitchen had plenty of dishware for just the two of us and enough "appliances" to allow us to cook dinner.

The bathroom was stocked with shower necessities and was actually quite spacious! Loved the Kleenex box dispenser ;)

The bed was very soft and comfortable. We loved being serenaded to sleep by the frogs and geckos!

The one item that we loved and appreciated the most that was supplied was the oscillating fan! There wasn't a whole lot of trade winds coming through the unit but that fan was worth a million bucks and made our stay so comfortable!!

They also have snorkeling gear and beach chairs in a shed under the house, which was awesome!

We loved our stay here and would come back in a heartbeat. Gary and Karen were excellent hosts. Thank you for everything!

Beautiful place, very comfortable and homey. The ocean cliffs just a block away.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed being away from the busy city and in a more tranquil neighborhood. The frogs whistling and waves crashing lulled us to sleep. Great spot on the east side of the island.

Nice place to stay

  • 4 of 5

Gary and Karen are great hosts. Our SUV didn’t like the grass driveway (kept auto braking while backing out), but the accommodations are nice. Bed was comfortable, nice bathroom. Can’t really complain about anything. I would stay there again if I wanted to stay in Pahoa.
