Perfect piece of paradise

  • 5 of 5

Gary and Karen's little tropical bungalow was the perfect little piece of paradise my wife and I were looking for! It was nestled in a quiet little neighborhood within viewing distance of the ocean. The lanai was awesome. You could sit out there rain or shine because of the roof overhang. With the awesome view of the ocean we could have spent all day out there! (The chairs could use some new cushions for comfort but that didn't stop us from playing card games until the sun went down). We also took several walks through the neighborhood and visited the "beach" park nearby (there really are no sandy beaches on this side of the big island but plenty of places with amazing views of the ocean)

The inside of the unit had everything we needed to make our stay totally comfortable. The kitchen had plenty of dishware for just the two of us and enough "appliances" to allow us to cook dinner.

The bathroom was stocked with shower necessities and was actually quite spacious! Loved the Kleenex box dispenser ;)

The bed was very soft and comfortable. We loved being serenaded to sleep by the frogs and geckos!

The one item that we loved and appreciated the most that was supplied was the oscillating fan! There wasn't a whole lot of trade winds coming through the unit but that fan was worth a million bucks and made our stay so comfortable!!

They also have snorkeling gear and beach chairs in a shed under the house, which was awesome!

We loved our stay here and would come back in a heartbeat. Gary and Karen were excellent hosts. Thank you for everything!

Perfect East Coast Experience!!

  • 5 of 5

Gary and Karen are fantastic hosts. The property is neat, tidy, and in a beautifully quaint location! The frogs sing you lulibies at night and awake to the birds and sea. This apartment is right across the street from a park that overlooks the ocean. Perfect for taking in the amazing sunrises!! Only 10-15 minutes from Pahoa where you'll get to see the local food scene and lively night life. Hilo is about a 40 minute drive (easy). Approximately 20 minutes to the warm pools at Kapoho! Many Mahalos to Gary and Karen for the wonderful experience :)

We enjoyed our stay at Pahoa very much! The place was beautiful and accommodating for 2 people. Little things like paddle boards, cooler and ice, really made our stay easy, memorable and enjoyable! I would highly recommend this beautiful getaway!

Lovely home with brilliant views

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I had an awesome stay. Gary was very flexible with our arrival time and greeted us with a warm aloha. The home was perfect for two with the comfortable bed and couch. The sunrise views in the morning were superb and the walk to the coast was a must for us. Definitely would stay again if given the opportunity.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My sister and i stayed at Makana Kai for one week.

It's a special and cosy place to stay.Very tastefully decorated with a hawaiian touch. It was everything there we needed..The bathroom was very clean and the large shower was great.

We loved the lanai with the beautiful oceanview. It's a perfect place

to have breakfast. The location is peaceful and relaxing and good to

explore the Volcano National Park,Punalu'u Beach, visiting Hilo and a lot more.

Karen and Gary are very nice, friendly and helpful hosts.

As we wanted to say Goodbye, they invited us to have a glass of wine with

them, that was very kind.By the way the wine was excellent........

We hope,we can return someday,as we miss Hawaii already.

Thanks a lot to Karen and Gary for a wonderful week.
