This beautiful apartment is in the Hawaiian Beaches neighborhood. It is a quiet residential neighborhood and about 5 miles from the closest stores or restaurants. Gary and Karen have turned the upstairs portion of their home into one of the most attractive apartments for visitors. You have a separate parking area, and separate entrance. The apartment is split level with the bedroom, living area, bath and outside balcony overlooking the adjacent park and ocean on the top floor, the kitchen and entry way on the lower level. The apartment was sparkling clean and had every amenity for a pleasant stay. We had breakfast there every morning and were out exploring the island the rest of the time. Our four days flew by and the apartment was a very pleasant retreat from the activities of the day. Gary and Karen were outstanding hosts and even had a small loaf of banana bread, fruits and coffee for our first morning. You will definitely enjoy your time here.
Karen and Gary were wonderful hosts and the apartment is perfect. Walking distance to see the sunset and very close to hidden beaches, the Volcano sites and black sand. (And just 20 min from Hilo!) The apartment has a separate entrance, a wonderful, comfortable bed, wifi included and plenty of room alone or for a couple. It was the perfect way to "re-set" the busy life of the Bay Area. :)
This property is a little off the beaten path but well worth it. The condo is just lovely. The hosts couldn't be more accommodating. Makana Kai feels like a tropical paradise with the birds and frogs singing all night. A great lanai with a view of the ocean. Total peace and quiet. We loved being close to the Red Road where we could snorkel in the Kapaho tide pools and swim in naturally heated lava pools. There are some great places to eat in Pahoa. And the trip to Volcano and Hilo was an easy one.
Weeks before we were to arrive, we received several helpful e-mails from the owner welcoming us and giving us various bits of useful information. The rental was small, but extremely well arranged and the decor was perfect for a tropical house. We stayed here for 2 full weeks and enjoyed every minute. If we should ever return to Hawaii, we definitely want to stay here again!
Pahoa is the closest village but Hilo a little further away has everything you would want in a city.
