Stock Island House Boat Rental Photos and Description

House Boat, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath

The Red Grouper is one of five 1 BR / 1 BA floating condos* located at Stock Island Marina Village. With direct access to the Atlantic Ocean, it's the perfect way to experience Key West by water. The interior has been recently remodeled with new furnishings and artwork, and the bedrooms and bathrooms are equipped with luxury towels and linens. We also have coin operated laundry machines for your convenience. Stock Island Marina Village features free Wi-fi, a downtown shuttle service, an on-site restaurant, a ship store, and dog parks that are also available for your use. Enjoy all the comforts of home with the atmosphere of maritime living!

Stock Island is located just over the bridge from Key West, about a 15 minute ride to Duval Street. It's close enough to enjoy all the action of downtown but kick back in a more laid back atmosphere. Stock Island Marina Village is home to a colorful and friendly array of live-aboards and seasonal visitors, giving you a unique 'Old Key West' feel. And we're pet friendly!

Stock Island Marina Village: Stock Island Marina Village is a multi-use Marine Community located in historic Safe Harbor and serving live-aboard, recreational, and commercial vessels. Our office is open 7 days a week, and we have security on site after office hours so you can feel safe during your stay. Our residents are very friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable of the area, and the docks are a great slice of Key West life.

Stock Island: In 2007, the New York Times said, “The real Key West? It’s not even located on Key West proper anymore, but just over the Cow Key Channel Bridge, on the even tinier Stock Island.” Home to a diverse group of residents and business (and boats), Stock Island is a little quieter than its neighbor Key West, but still close enough to experience all Key West has to offer. Named after the livestock that used to call it home, Stock Island has a unique commercial history. The docks that currently house the Red Grouper were once lined with hundreds of fishing and shrimping vessels. With easy access to the Atlantic Ocean, proximity to Key West, and old island culture, Stock Island’s a great place to relax and experience the Florida Keys!

Red Grouper Amenities: The Red Grouper is tastefully outfitted with everything you need during your vacation. Amenities include:

- 1 Queen Bedroom with a closet and dresser

- Full Bathroom (tub shower, sink, and toilet) with towels

- Kitchen (large refrigerator, stovetop, oven, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster) with a breakfast bar

- Living room with Couch, TV with Direct TV, IPod Dock and Speakers

- Large outdoor deck with table, chairs, umbrella, BBQ grill

- Rooftop sitting area with chairs

- Vehicle parking next to the houseboat

- Bring your boat to Key West! Ask about additional dockage within the marina.

- Pet Friendly ($50.00 per week)

- Thorough cleaning service before and after each stay

*Stock Island Marina Village has a total of FIVE floating boatels available for rent. If this particular houseboat is unavailable, please inquire about the availability of our other four adjacent properties. We look forward to providing you an amazing Key West experience.

2nd time was even better....

  • 5 of 5

This is the 2nd time I booked. The first time my fiancé and I booked the Red Grouper and this time we booked the Red Grouper and Blue Marlin together. I saw a few negative comments but I don't get it because the boats are always spotless and we have had zero issues. The Red grouper is our favorite because of its rustic style and the Blue Marlin is very modern and very stylish inside with a great bathroom and beautiful bedroom with vaulted ceilings. We have stayed at plenty of high end hotels and if that is what you like then maybe this isn't for you. However if you like an amazing view and waking up on the water every morning and watching sunsets from your roof deck...this is for you. The boats are really accommodating and the marina is super friendly with a great bar and awesome restaurant that we kayaked to at night (Hogfish). We had scooters delivered and that's how went into town to have some fun but then retreated back to our cozy little paradise on the water at stock island marina. The boats have grills and full kitchens so you can bring and cook your own meals. There was nothing misleading about our stay at Stock Island Marina and has become our families favorite spot in the keys (we are already booking our 3rd trip back)

I wish I could post photos of our trip on this review:(

Relaxing Getaway

  • 4 of 5

We had a great weekend at Red Grouper. Even though we didn't cook in, we appreciated the fully stocked kitchen and wonderful deck area. Away from all the hustle and bustle of Key West but close enough to join in the fun since it was a 10 minute drive to historic Key West area. Fun to stay in a floating vacation home too! All in all a comfortable and relaxing place to spend a weekend.

the internet impression is lacking in reality

  • 3 of 5

Although we weren't searching for the Ritz Carlton when we found the Red Grouper, but, were a bit disappointed by its visual interpretation from the site.

We never got the main lights in the living room to work .... neither did the undermount counter lights . (might wanna put those loose wire connections in a box before someone gets electrocuted).

dunno but, pretty sure the grey waste water tank was emptying into the marina by the sound of it.

Again, we werent totally disappointed with our stay. The girls that work in the marina office were more than friendly and very helpful. The marina itself is such a neat place .

However, don't fall for pictures until you read reviews. The red grouper is a cute place and served its purpose. We were on the go constantly in key west, therefore we lived with it fine . But, whoever owns it needs to give a little TLC and do some minor updating and much needed repairs. The pics don't show you these real things on the website. Things .... that I would want to know before hand. After all, this is your $ and your vacation. You shouldn't be undersold by false representations .

If you can overlook these things and be ok.... Hey , key west is awaiting a adventure.

Red Grouper vacation

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the house boat because it was something new and it was really close to Key West. We brought our scooter and went back and forth to Key West daily. Stock Island is very laid back and everyone was very friendly. We brought our two dogs and the area was very pet friendly. Loved the stay and would do it again.

Very disappointed.

  • 2 of 5

We were supposed to stay in the Red Grouper, however when we checked in we noticed that the sliding glass doors had broken locks. The maintenance guy was unable to repair them so that moved us to another boat, The Green Turtle. At least you could lock the door. This unit has window air conditioners that were loud and rattled all night long. The place smelled of cigarette smoke. They advertise free WiFi. Free but the signal was so weak that it was useless. Shower drain was so slow that you were standing in 3 inches of water by the time you completed your cold shower.

My advice, rent a motel room.

Something fun, authentic and different near Key West

  • 4 of 5

Staying at the Red Grouper provided the opportunity to stay off the beaten path and hang out with sea-farers passing through Key West, as well as locals who have made their boats in Stock Island Marina their homes. There is a large tiki bar right as you pull in the marina area that provided live entertainment, great food, corn hole, and great local conversation. The hogfish sandwhich may have been the best sandwich I've ever had. The crusty and tattooed folks at the bar provided for a great visual backdrop as well as colorful conversations. It was worth staying there just for this alone, but we enjoyed the accommodations of the Red Grouper as well. The bed was super comfortable and the deck up top was an awesome place to hang out. The kitchen had all the appliances one would need for an extended stay. Our only complaints are that the air conditioning unit in the bedroom vibrated a little too loudly, and there was no soap or shampoo provided as you would get in a regular hotel room. But we would certainly stay there again!
