For this house, that means not appearing in searches where potential guests have put dates for shorter stays than the required minimum stay of this house.

The posted rates are based on two kinds of stays 4 or more nights or a full 7 nights, where neither check in or out is a Friday or Saturday. That said, our rates for the amenities and value, often beat other lodging choices offering shorter stays.

You're putting a great deal of planning & budgeting into your upcoming stay. If your stay is not as expected, it may be years before you'll be able to get this same group together for your particular, unique, vacation... and we realize that every rental is our most important one!

Think about It . . . When a couple plans a getaway, in a one bedroom condo, they may pay $100 per person, per night, to stay... For a tiny place, where they hear the neighbors, share a pool. ... A local casino, possibly $150 a person, per night.

These Per Person per night booked rates may be slightly higher for Holiday or local event stays.... But even then, they are pretty close to these nightly average cost per person.

The above is mentioned to point out the house is in everyone's budget, if you've got the people count. If your people count is less, especially far less, it may not be the best option. OUTDOOR ELEVATOR:

Passenger elevator, not a grocery lift. Loaded with safety features, to protect you & your family. Designed to carry a wheelchair; perfect for luggage & groceries.

HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE:

Walk-in showers & wide areas for wheelchairs & walkers. Sorry, no special handicap features, such as handrails in bathrooms, but, there is a ramp to the pool area & wide ladder / stairs to enter the pool.

2 continuous water heaters provide any size group with endless hot water showers.

There are 16 individual places to sleep:

-1 King (Master)

-6 Full (3 bunk beds - full over full - in 2 bedrooms)

-5 Queen (2 located in private bedrooms /3 in Sleeper loft)

-2 folding beds

-2 full-size Convertible sofas - basically futons (in Sleeper Loft)

The beds are also not placed awkwardly close to each other. The entire house, including the sleeping areas, has a spacious feel.

With only 1 person in ea of the top bunks & 1 in ea of the folding beds (allowing for 5 people to sleep solo), & double occupancy in each of the other spots to sleep, the house can accommodate up to 27 people.

16 people could each have their own bed or convertible sofa to sleep on.

BATHROOMS:

The 4 full baths are well distributed. Even a toilet closet on the covered outside deck, convenient to The Hot Tub. The loft has a full bath with a lg. 5 ft shower. The 6 full-size beds (3 full over full bunk beds) are in 2 adjacent (nested) bedrooms with full bath. Bathroom has a lg garden tub/shower. Perfect for soaking, bathing the wee-one, or for a quick shower with lots of elbow room. The 2 bedrooms off the hall, (with queen beds) share the hall full bath. Even the master bedroom's bath, which has a private entrance from the master bedroom, offers a 2nd entrance to its bathroom. Offering more bathing options for lg groups. The Master bathroom has a garden tub, double vanity & separate 5 ft shower.

This is 4500 sq ft of luxury accommodations! This means everyone is comfortably under the same roof. Staying in separate hotels or condo's is like herding cats. All described above & more, right on Gulfport's Biloxi River. It is 'The Great Escape River House!'

VISITORS:

Rates are based on No more than Visitors during stay. Planning on more? Please provide details for an accurate quote. Rates are based on a "Lodging" stay; not an "Event" stay. Often visitors translates into "Event." From Wedding to Baby Shower, they involve visitors.

KID FRIENDLY?

Yes! Ideally, a good proportionate # of kids to adults, especially when teenagers are in the kid count. For little ones, we have some safety gates; no kid supplies such as high chairs, cribs, or changing tables. The pool has a locking gate; parents still need to be diligent, the River is behind the house.

PETS?

The pet fee is generally proportionate to other pet fees. A 700 sq ft condo may charge a $95 Pet Fee, as you should imagine, a 4500 sq ft house's pet fee will be more. Pets are approved on a case by case basis, your fee may be more than posted fee, & the Refundable Deposit increased.

Since in my 20's, I've owned long term rentals. I’ve spent most of my working life as my Father’s right hand in his business, taking most of my waking hours. The other hours, were mostly spent caring for my disabled mother.

My folks passed away a few years ago. By that time, despite being the favorite Aunt to my siblings children, it was too late for children of my own. I never married, choosing to remain single, looking for Mr. Right, rather than wedding “Mr. Not-Right” for me.

Some Vacation Owners, do the cleaning and upkeep themselves. I want to continue to LOVE my Vacation Rentals, so I have a professional cleaning crew and local maintenance crew. I handle everything they don’t... Guests, calendars, bookings, you know, the fun stuff.... which allows me to be a bit of a tumble weed, offering unusual freedom, as long as I’ve my iPad and internet.

About Me?

I enjoy great conversations, nature (and about anything from fishing to ATVing in it), friends, cruises, most living things (great & small), learning about people, history, the world, life. I’ll try about anything on a dare from parachuting or swimming with sharks (yep, I’ve done that... and more). I’ve given up on Dating sites (although I could write Several funny stories just on the public 1st date meeting); and started focusing my free time on family and friends. I will tumble weed, at a moments notice, to far flung regions, for adventure, a memorable experience, or on a dare :). Passport at the ready.

Why Patricia Dalton chose Gulfport

Since 1996, my family owned a camp on the Biloxi River. It was a slice of paradise. I often thought how amazing it would be to share it with travelers.

the camp next to this house, the Great Escape River House. It was such a perfect slice of since 1996, and when the neighbor decided to sell his home, in April 2005, I jumped at the chance to move permanently to the Gulfport area. The house was an impressive 2,400 square feet. When Katrina struck a few months later, I decided it was a great time to turn the house into my 'Dream Home.' After every feature on my wish list was added to the house, it had grown to 4,500 square feet. It was perfect! My dream house for all my friends and family to gather.

It didn't take to long to realize, the house was quite a bit more than the I needed. Friends & Family came often, but I still found myself with more room than I needed. I also didn't realize how expensive it would be to be maintain the Great Escape River House.

I always liked the idea of sharing my piece of paradise on the River. I knew that most renters would be people, like myself, wanting more than a hotel could offer & would be respectful of the Vacation Home they rented.

Opening my home to travelers (like yourself) who long for great times, with those whose company they enjoy in awesome surroundings.... what a great thing to do! I can't imagine anyone coming here, with a dozen or more of their favorite people and not having the absolutely fantastic vacation

Gourmet Cook's dream Kitchen has 2 large islands, 3 stainless steel sinks, 2 dishwashers, 2 ovens, warming drawer, comes fully equipped, just bring food. Numerous common areas, large covered deck in front & back of house, concrete path through small wooded area, with sitting area. Dock for boat or fishing, at end of concrete path beach/shallow area for wadding into river, large deck surrounds above ground pool for easy entrance. Elevated house offers plenty of covered parking. While in the city limits, the house is in a rural area and offers much privacy. Perfect for a family reunion, if interested inquire about having your wedding & / or reception here. The house is absolutely perfect

The house is absolutely perfect. Patricia was very flexible with our group. Pictures does not do it justice. The kitchen is spectacular. Room for all the cooks. The outdoor area is spacious and relaxing. Group of 10 stayed but we had dinner guests and they were amazed by the house. 100% recommend this property.

The pictures don’t do this property justice! We had the best time. A big group of women, so we spent a lot of time in the kitchen. It is huge, with every gadget you could possibly need! The elevator was a godsend! The beds are so comfortable, you won’t want to leave. We are discussing when we can go back. Thank you Patricia. You are wonderful and so helpful!!

Patricia was very flexible in regards to my check in time which should not go unnoticed!! All my questions were answered rather quickly. The pictures of this amazing house is just a quick preview of what you’re really getting. The house was extremely clean. It was so spacious that it made it easy to go off to myself and relax after a long drive. The scenery was great. Overall I give this house and Patricia 2 thumbs up. If I ever travel to this part of the south again I will definitely be in contact with this owner. The house is worth every cent paid.. Thanks Again!!

Gorgeous property and home!

Our family of 21 stayed here after Christmas and it could not have been more perfect for us. The bedrooms are nice and the living area/game room ample and crowd-friendly with plenty of seating. My favorite place was the huge kitchen and eating area—truly a dream kitchen in every sense of the word. Five people can easily be working in the kitchen at the same time—3 sinks, 2 dishwashers, 2 ovens, large commercial refrigerator and lots of counter space. The kitchen bar has bar stools for 10 people so most of our grandchildren sat there. The views of the river, hot tub area, fire pit, pool (we didn’t use the pool in 30 degree weather but it looked nice) and patio area are all wonderful! The owner was great to respond quickly via text when I had a question and was very accommodating during the reservation process. The house was pristine in cleanliness. I can’t say enough praises about this entire experience! Hopefully, we can stay here again the future!

A Real Find

LOCATION DETAILS:

HOW FAR TO GULF OF MEXICO BEACHES?

Located right on the Biloxi River & less than 8 miles from the Gulf of Mexico beaches, a straight shot down the 605 to Cowen Blvd and the beaches on US-90 (Beach Blvd). This road was recently expanded in hopes of diverting traffic from Hwy. 49. That hasn't really happened, so traffic is usually very light, making for a stress free drive from The Great Escape a River House to the Gulf of Mexico beaches.

SHOPPING:

Minutes from I-10, Just one exit from the Prime Outlet Mall and Crossroads Shopping area, either less than 8.5 miles away from the Great Escape River House. Edgewater Shopping Center, on Beach Blvd, out big enclosed ball is 10.2 miles from the Great Escape River House.

NEW ORLEANS:

Less than an hour and half from New Orleans.

GOLF:

Just a few miles to many championship golf courses. With the Great Escape River House just minutes from I-10; a perfect launch off to any of our great local Golf Courses. Making the Great Escape River House the perfect place for a large group of golfers to stay - all under one roof. The house has 12 beds, 2 convertible sofas, and at this posting, 2 folding beds - 16 individual places for people to sleep solo.

CASINOS:

Island View Casino (In Gulfport) is 12 miles & Beau Riverage Casino (Biloxi) is 16 miles from the Great Escape River House.

WHY STAY AT THIS HOUSE;

BASED ON THIS LOCATION?

Some first time Travelers come to Gulfport, Biloxi, or other towns on the MS Gulf Coast wanting to stay 'on the Beach.' There are just no homes 'on the beach'. Now if you go to this one community, past Ocean Springs, pretty far away & a bit isolated, there are a few homes right on the beach, but it's quite a ride to & from those homes to shopping, Casinos, a good choice of restaurants, etc. That being said some of those homes are good choices, if a secluded beach stay is what your are looking for.

If you are thinking of renting a house 'close to the beach', within two or three blocks (and there are some very nice ones there), check to see how close the train tracks are to the vacation home you are considering. If you are a light sleeper, you will want to factor this into your decision on where to stay. At night, the trains can pass as often as every hour, all night long, depending on their schedules. 2nd time visitors to the coast often mention this as a factor when considering the Great Escape River House.

Unless you are a good walker, with or without kids in tow, walking from one of these 'close to the beaches' vacation homes, may not be a good choice. You will need to walk at least a block (most vacation rental homes are 2 or more blocks from Hwy. 90) & cross busy Hwy 90 (Beach Blvd,). Depending on where the vacation rental home is, you may not have the benefit of a traffic light. It's very likely you would elect to hop in the car, load up the family, the towels, ice chest, and all the other beach gear and drive to the beaches. That way you can pick the perfect place to park, possibly choosing close to the 'comfort stations' with public showers and bathrooms, to rent a jet ski, go parasailing, with other families (or adults) or near a great restaurant.

So, if you're gonna load up the car anyway, why not pick a vacation home away from the trains, where the next door neighbor isn't feet away, heck you'll have to look across the river to see the closest other neighbor, where you have your own private water feature in the back yard, swimming pool, hot tub, fire pit, wet bar, pool table, oh goodness - too many amenities to mention!

STILL THINKING OF ANOTHER VAC HOUSE?

If you are still considering a stay at another vacation rental, please let me give you some advice. First, there are quite a few that are great vacation rentals. Some of my competition is extremely dedicated. I like to think I have the best vacation homes, but I know the MS Gulf Coast has quite a few other dedicated owners...but there are also ones that will disappoint. Carefully look at the posted photos. Are there good window coverings? Does that bedding look inviting? Those photos are of the vacation home at its best. Read reviews, posted by GUESTS who stayed. Not that an Owner would not be truthful, but ideally your source is an actual Guest who stayed in the house.

2nd & most importantly, check out Property Managers with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). There is at least one, I believe the largest one on the Coast specializing in Vac Homes (although they do represent condos too) with an F rating. I've even read Vacation Home Owners reviews where they were answering complaint about their rentals, make reference to the fact they replaced their property manager or it was the property manager's fault. After years of doing vacation rentals, I'm convinced involved Vac Home Owners with professional cleaning & maintenance crews, are in the ideal position to offer the best vacation home experience.

OPTIONAL PROPANE TANK(s)
This is a service past guests requested since we've added the outdoor kitchen. There is a charcoal grill on site (by the pool) & a Propane Grill, boiler & Hibachi grill, on the upper deck. For $25, the empty tank will be filled & waiting for you upon arrival, $20 for additional filled tanks.

OPTIONAL FIREWOOD:
Is $2 a quarter cut log, minimum 20 logs ($40); delivered prior to arrival to under the covered deck of house to protect wood from the weather.

INFANTS - 2 YEARS OLD:
If people count is above # quote is based on, there is No Added charge for 1st 4 wee-ones. Site will calculate it; I will remove it on quote, if disclosed prior to booking.
