About Tim Burress
I grew up in Chatham, NJ and spent my summers on Long Beach Island in Harvey Cedars. I have lived in Boston, NY, and now Richmond, VA with my two fantastic girls Ava and Grace and our dog Finney.
Tim Burress purchased this House in 2003
Why Tim Burress chose Fruitville
Running on Faith has been much more than just a house. It has been a blessing, a place of fond memories, and of great joy from all that have shared our home. When a fire took our beloved home 2013 we were devastated but thankful that no one was hurt. Oddly the guests that were there had decided to leave early and we were delayed in our arrival on the eve of the fire. Running on Faith has blessed all that have entered her door. We are thrilled to rebuild her and share our home once again.
What makes this House unique
For nearly 12 years many guests have shared what they love about our home and perhaps it is best expressed by one note I received several years ago that simply said 'Your home is so easy and comforting we just love returning each year' It truly makes me feel grateful to share our home with all of you.

Sunsets and Wild Horses
The home exceeded our expectations. The first day we arrived the wild horses were in our yard, we saw them almost every day, on the beach, in the yard, one night three were bedded down on the property. You definitely need 4WD to get there, it is such an amazing experience driving down the beach. The home was beautifully appointed and had everything we needed right down to jigsaw puzzles and a fireplace to occupy us on a rainy day, but even rainy days are beautiful there, one rain shower was followed by a spectacular double rainbow over the water. We loved that we could bring our dogs with us and many days we had the beach to ourselves. It's truly a very special place and we will definitely be back!
I am so thrilled to hear how much you all enjoyed 'Running on Faith' You are always welcome back and I look forward to your next visit. God bless.
We immensely enjoyed our stay at Running On Faith. The house was nicely done and roomy. We swam and played volleyball in the pool nearly everyday and tried out the hot tub a few times. The beach was just as enjoyable and driving down the beach was a first for us all but it was a lot of fun. We saw horses every single day and a few times we got to watch them from inside the door of the house while they were under the carport lol.
There is really a lot to do in the area too and we took a day and drove to Nags Head and went on the Kitty Hawk Dolphin Watch. That was awesome, we saw so many dolphins the entire time we were on the boat and Jenny the intern, provided a lot of info about dolphins. Great for kids too. We went to Tim Buck II, shopped around and tried out many places to eat. I personally recommend First Light at Tim Buck II. The breakfast was outstanding. This was our first trip to OBX but certainly won’t be our last.
If I may offer a suggestion on the house; putting up drapes like those in the bedrooms on the windows of the living room would probably save some $ on the AC as that area gets really warm when the sun shines in. :)
Overall, we had a fantastic vacation at this beach home and the location was just perfect.
Fantastic to hear that you all had a wonderful time at Running on Faith. The horses always seem to come to our house to see our guests. I assume that is because we have wonderful guests! I am delighted to hear that you got to enjoy our home and all the surrounding activities.
I have never thought about curtains in the main living area. It certainly would keep the house cooler if they were closed during the day, but then you would not have the ocean view. I will certainly consider placing some curtains up after this season. Thanks and enjoy the rest of your summer.
Gorgeous home on the beach with wild horses on the property. Owner was great to work with.
Running on Faith is an absolutely stunning home with a beautiful layout. From watching the ocean on the back deck to the wildlife in the front yard, swimming in the pool or simply lounging on the patio sofa, this home was paradise. The horses came almost every day. And one of the horses took a fancy to walking around on the deck on the first level of the house (garage/storage area). We could always hear when he arrived with his clump, clump, clump on the deck wood. We were trying to figure out if he actually liked to hear the sound he made or if he was just trying to get out of the sun for a small break.
When we first arrived the weather was more on the cool side, so we had a chance to enjoy the hot tub. By the end of the week we were using the house beach chairs and sitting on the beach enjoying the warm weather. Then later we were poolside.
We made all our meals and the kitchen had everything we needed, including spices!
Running on Faith gave us downtime to relax from the daily hustle of work life and also time to spend with my grandson, daughter and son-in-law.
Tim is wonderful and responsive. We thank you for allowing us to visit and enjoy your stunning home!
Hi Debbie - thank you so much for sharing your review about our home. I am glad Running on Faith was able to provide some peace and joy in your life.
This was our second time coming to Running on Faith and it was just as amazing as the first time. The weather was just as beautiful as last year, and the horses were everywhere. I HIGHLY recommend this home and Tim is such a pleasure to work with. Thank you for another wonderful vacation Tim!!!!!
Hey Lisa - Always a pleasure to have you all at Running on Faith. Glad the horses made it out to show off for you. Many happy returns.
Running on Faith came just as advertised. You can read all the great reviews that have been submitted so I won't repeat those sentiments here. Be assured the house is more than awesome. I traveled to Carolla Beach with 3 girlfriends from Michigan, all of whom have recently turned 60 and we picked a great place to celebrate. What I will reinforce is the advice on beach driving. As a first-timer, I was more than a little nervous about driving on the sand, so here's my advice for what it's worth. First off, be cognizant of the tides. You can check the low and high tide schedules online. Going at low tide is MUCH better. I thought I was coming in on the low tide but turns out it was very near high tide which made the drive super stressful. Had to do most of the drive on the soft sand and was only able to keep the car moving at 10-15 miles an hour. It didn't help that I was driving a rental car and had visions of the Tahoe drifting out to sea:) It's recommended that you deflate your tires to provide more traction once you're on the beach. We didn't have a tire gauge with us so we didn't use that trick but saw people doing that and have heard it makes a big difference. Also, we discovered a taxi tooling around so apparently there is a way to be picked up and dropped off without having to make the drive yourself. Truthfully, with a little planning (and a 4 WD vehicle), driving the beach is incredible and something you can do very few places. Hope this doesn't scare anyone off, just wish I'd been a little more prepared. STAY HERE and have the adventure of a lifetime!!!
Great place to stay!
We have been coming out to the Outer Banks 4x4 beach for the past several years during the kids spring break. This year we decided to stay somewhere new and try this beach house. It’s a beautful house with nice finishes and a nice layout. There’s absolutely nothing to complain about at all. It’s pretty far up the 4x4 beach and took us around 25 minutes to get to the house once the pavement ended. Be sure you have a 4x4 vehicle as we witnessed many stuck vehicles in the sand. The house has decking on three sides of the house, which was a big plus. Even on cooler days we were able to find a spot outside and out of the wind on one side of the house. The owner was great to work with. When we arrived we couldn’t get some of the switches to work and I had to call him. It turned out that a circuit breaker had tripped and he directed me to the panel to get it back up and running. As we were packing up to leave the same circuit breaker tripped again but we didn’t have any other trouble during the week. We never did figure out how to get the living room ceiling fan going but it wasn’t really needed this time of year. I didn’t read the check-in guidelines too closely. If I had, I would’ve noticed that the beds aren’t made before you arrive. The last thing we felt like doing when we came in from our 15hr drivr was make our beds- but thats’s my fault for not reading that you can call ahead and ask them to make the beds for you. Also, there’s no extra blankets so be sure to bring a couple with you if you think you might need them. The kitchen is well stocked with pots and pans and utensils. The grill on the deck near the kitchen was a nice feature. Plenty of beach chairs but no boogie boards for the beach. However, there is a kayak- but we didn’t use it. Definitely a great house with zero issues. We would be happy to stay here again sometime!
