About Tim Burress

I grew up in Chatham, NJ and spent my summers on Long Beach Island in Harvey Cedars. I have lived in Boston, NY, and now Richmond, VA with my two fantastic girls Ava and Grace and our dog Finney.

Tim Burress purchased this house in 2003

Why Tim Burress chose Outer Banks

Running on Faith has been much more than just a house. It has been a blessing, a place of fond memories, and of great joy from all that have shared our home. When a fire took our beloved home last year we were devastated and over joyed that no one was hurt. Oddly the guests that were there had decided to leave early and we were delayed in our arrival on the eve of the fire. Running on Faith has blessed all that have entered her door. We are thrilled to rebuild her and share our home once again.

What makes this house unique

For nearly 12 years many guests have shared what they love about our home and perhaps it is best expressed by one note I received several years ago that simply said 'Your home is so easy and comforting we just love returning each year' It truly makes me feel grateful to share our home with all of you.

Awesome Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We just left the Outer Banks and had an amazing vacation. The house was everything that we hoped it would be and Tim was a great host, attending to anything we needed and any questions we had. We will be back for sure!

Just a few helpful hints for future visitors...

- Get to the island very early Sunday morning to avoid the traffic. I would recommend staying right near the bridge the night before so that you can get to the house early. The cleaning lady will not be done, but you can at least enjoy the beach. Traffic is really bad at peak times.

- get enough food for the night and breakfast the next day ( before heading to the house) and then go back into town for groceries the next day. Due to everyone coming in on Saturday and Sunday the grocery store ( Harris Teeter) was super crowded and very empty.

We loved the house, the daily visit by the horses, and the tranquility of the area.

Owner's Response: I am always thrilled to read a review. As an owner I take great pride in knowing that you all had a great time. I wish I had a magical power to vanish the traffic, but Sundays are better than Saturdays. Guests are always welcome to come early on Sunday to avoid the traffic. Just keep in mind the cleaning crew needs to clean everything, but the beach is just steps away and the cleaning staff will let you know when the house is perfect.

Absolutely fabulous

  • 5 of 5

Four adults living together for a week and all of us saying the same thing. Tim's house is beautiful, terrific and so comfortable. The horses in the yard....and the carport, the sound of the ocean, the easy access to the water. All of these things made our experience so wonderful. Please do heed the advise for a 4 WD vehicle. You will get stuck in the sand without the 4WD. We did not but helped others who did.

The beach house was amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing first trip to the Outerbanks! This beach house was just perfect for our family! We especially loved being right on the beach, swimming in the heated pool and enjoying the hot tub! What was so unique about this house was that the wild horses came right on the property! Tim made sure that we had everything that we needed and was very easy going! We will definitely stay again in the future!

Peaceful oasis!

  • 5 of 5

What can I say that hasn't already been said in previous reviews of Running On Faith? It truly is a beautiful, well-appointed home in the most peaceful part of the Outer Banks. We spent Spring Break here so we didn't have to deal with the regular traffic issues of the summer months. This end of OBX is fairly exclusive in its own right, because it is only accessible via the beach road. Do not attempt this drive with an all-wheel drive vehicle! Over the course of the week, we saw quite a few poor souls stuck deep in the sand because they were positive their minivan could make it. It couldn't! This adds to the exclusivity of the area- just ignore the Wild Horse tour vehicles...or secretly laugh because you'll see the horses grazing behind the house in the early morning and running on the beach anytime! It is a beautiful site to see.

Tim is easy to work with and accommodating. Kelly is a doll. She'll come check on the pool and spa during the week. It boggles my mind that in a few short hours on a Sunday, she can make this house spotless and welcoming. Plan on eating most of your meals at the house because you really won't want to leave. Our teenage boys argue all the time- but, not here! There was a peaceful calm that fell over everyone and we thoroughly enjoyed our vacation, each other's company and this beautiful home. Thank you, Tim, for sharing your slice of heaven with us.

Owner's Response: I can take credit for somethings but your teenagers behaving...that is all mom! Always a delight to hear from guests. I must admit I do get a laugh over the horse tours and the folks that are paying $$$ to ride around a see a horse. They are at the house frequently and are a beautiful site. Glad you all enjoyed your time and we would love to have you back. Tim

Heavenly Haven for Hopeless Honeymooners!

  • 5 of 5

Sigh... We didn't want to leave!!!

My wife and I spent a week here after our Valentine's Day wedding, and we absolutely fell in love with this property. All the reviews are true... Running On Faith exceeded our expectations! The house was very clean, well managed, and had EVERYTHING we needed to make our stay wonderful. We were looking for a secluded beach for our honeymoon, and boy did this fit the bill... this private stretch of beach is perfect for a romantic getaway! We lied in bed and watched the sunrise, and the view from the back deck was amazing. I'm having trouble typing because I'm thinking about it right now!

Tim was awesome! He took care of our needs, and made it obvious he genuinely cares about his customers.

Here's a tip: Make sure you know how to drive on sand and have a vehicle that is up to the task... we found out the hard way! ;) (A1 Towing wasn't cheap; but Larry was fast, and he made us laugh.)

Funny story: We visited in mid February, and it was pretty cold for most of our stay (+1 for gas fireplace!). We wanted to see the wild horses so badly, but I guess they're not as active in the cold. So, we decided to take a Wild Horse Adventure Tour. Long story short - the last stop to see the horses was literally a block away from the house!!! They were nearby the whole time!

I can't say enough great things about this place... Thanks Tim! God bless!!!

Owner's Response: It is always my pleasure to make everyone's stay special. I love to help in anyway I can. You all are starting a great journey together and I am honored to know that Running On Faith had a part in your life. And yes 4WD is always needed when heading into Carova. God bless you both.

Terrific Getaway in a Beautiful Beachfront Home

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed our week on the beautiful coast of the Outer Banks! The house is in Carova, which is about a 9 mile ride on the 4x4 beach. We drove our Acura MDX on the first day, but it had some issues in the sand (we got stuck and needed a push). If you drive an AWD, make sure to drop the pressure in the tires and drive closer to the shore when the tide is low - it is much easier. I rented a 4x4 in Kills Devil Hills on the 2nd day and had no further issues. The house is beautiful and immaculately kept. We only had 4 in our party, but there is plenty of sleeping space and the house could have easily housed a party ~twice our size. There is a TV in just about every room and having Netflix access is also nice. There is a hot-tub, which felt great - the pool was shut down for the winter but looks small but nice. You pretty much see horses around every day and walking on the beach is fantastic. Tim, the owner, is a great person and contacted me several times before our visit to ensure that we were all set for the week. In the off season a lot of the restaurants are closed, so make sure to call ahead. We found ourselves driving to Duck most of the time, as most of the nicer/better restaurants were there. All in all I would highly recommend this rental!

Owner's Response: Thank you. Always great to hear from guests. Some more landscaping to take place this spring and some more furniture pool side. Cheers to all.
