My husband, our puppy Gypsy and I had made plans to go to Englewood, Florida, However red tide made it impossible to go to the beach :( We almost cancelled our vacation. But I called several places in Sanibel when I called the Driftwood inn I spoke with Bridget who was one of the friendliest people I spoke with. Bridget was so accommodating and a wonderful spirit you can just tell by talking to her !! Pet friendlyI, short walk to the beach and all accommodations you need !! When going to the beach don't forget the wagon makes life so simple !! Thank you, Bridget , We will be returning !!! Sanibel is one of the most pet-friendly places I have ever been.

Wonderful Cottage

  • 5 of 5

My mother and I visited Sanibel Island for the first time. We found "Driftwood Inn" cottage to be quite charming. Bridget was extremely helpful from the first contact until our departure. We arrived on Friday afternoon, and found the cottage easily. The locks on the door were electronic (handy and convenient), so we did not have to keep up with a key to the house. It was very clean and tidy. There were extra towels, wash clothes, and blankets. Outside on the screened in lanai, comfortable table and chairs. A beach wagon, umbrella, and chairs were provided. There were also "scoopers" to use to look for shells! We did call the property manager for a new umbrella, because the one there was broken. The property manager brought one to us the next day. We are so thankful for the umbrella! The bathrooms were clean and orderly. The floor is made of tile, so it stays cool. AC throughout the cottage, making it heavenly when you come in from the beach. We did use the laundry facilities out back. The detergent was provided. We didn't have time to use the grills or outdoor furniture, but they were convenient to the house. The kitchen is perfect! There were plenty of dishes, detergent, and pans to use for cooking. Coffee pot, toaster, and microwave were all working. There wasn't a supply of simple condiments (salt, pepper, etc), but we managed without it for a few days. The oven cooked a little warmer than the temperature it was set to, but we figured that out after our first round of extra crispy cookies. TV was small, but we didn't come to watch the TV. Overall, I would recommend this cottage (#1) to anyone looking to come to the island for a nice stay!

The walk to the beach is less than 2 blocks. Most of it is shaded by the trees, and of course flat and paved. The wagon was such a big help, so that we didn't have to carry anything. The "deeded" becah was nice, because there were not a lot of people around the area we were staying. I would recommend renting bikes to travel the island. We did drive around the island, but the bikes were way more fun.

Thank you Bridget for letting us use your cottage! We are looking forward to coming back to Sanibel Island soon!

Charming little place on bike path with a four minute walk to the beach! Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and our four teacup chihuahuas stayed here and had a wonderful time. The location was perfect because our family stayed at the Sanibel Siesta Resort and we couldn't stay there with our dogs. We were only two 1/2 blocks away from the beach and our family. The cottages were cute and the yard was charming. Both we and our dogs loved starting our mornings in the screened-in porch which is surrounded by foliage. There's laundry access on the property, which is great. We absolutely love the location and the fact that they accept WELL BEHAVED dogs. Our vacation was perfectly relaxing. The pictures online are exactly how the property looked when we arrived. The property looked very cute on the outside. The cabin interiors were good as well and look like the photos. We will definitely be returning to The Driftwood Inn next year because we enjoyed our stay so much. If you stay here with pets, please only bring pets that are well behaved. We pet owners need nice places to stay and The Driftwood Inn is wonderful for people with pets. If you have a well behaved and quiet pet...this is really the perfect little place to stay. Added bonuses of the property were two bikes that anyone could use on the bike trails that pass right in front of the cottage and that each cabin had a little wagon that you could put your beach chairs, etc., in to pull to the beach. There were plenty of towels and the necessary dishes for cooking basic meals in the cupboards. The only thing I'd change about this wonderful little place is I'd prefer deadbolts on the door, rather than simple button locks because a couple of times we walked out of the cottage and locked ourselves out by accident! Oops!

Wonderful Place

  • 5 of 5

Just got back from Sanibel, where I stayed at the Driftwood Inn for the fifth or sixth time. A beautiful place, great landscaping, beautiful screened porch, and a very short walk to the beach. And by far the best deal on the island.

Lovely Vacation spent at the Driftwood Inn.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just returned from a four night vacation spent in the Driftwood Inn, Sanibel Island. From the moment we walked thru the door, we fell in love with our cottage. It was just like walking into your own home; everything was beautiful. The cottage was furnished throughout with wicker furniture and came with everything you needed. If love you the sterile enviroment of today's modern motels and hotels, then do not go to the Driftwood Inn; however, if you would love to feel completely comfortable and at home - this is definitely the place for you. Thanks Jane for a very memorable stay.

We are eagerly looking forward to our looking forward to our next vacation at the Driftwood Inn.

P. S.

You might consider obtaining a "parking permit" for your stay on Sanibel Island; this allows you to park at all the public beach access points as well as the fishing beach public accesses. Also, if interested in the Sanibel Island's Federal Refuge, "Ding" Darling, you might consider buying a $12 pass that gives you unlimited access to the refuge during your stay; some great fishing in the refuge.

Wonderful Experience

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here the first week of August 2010 for our 36th Anniversary . Our experience was amazing , the owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome . The cottage was very clean and described very well in the listing . We have plans to return to Florida probably this year and we will call Jane and book it. We would defiently recommend this property to anyone wanting a nice place to spend some time at the beach. The transitions went very well from Kentucky , only one phone call and we were ready for our cottage. ( Thanks again Jane for bring us the other lawn chair )
