In the heart of Renaissance Florence, this large, elegant apartment overlooks the Arno 100 meters downstream from the Grand Hotel. The Duomo, Uffizi, and all the other museums and art-filled churches are 10 minutes away by foot, if you don't stop to window-shop along the way. The flat is on the second floor (American style) of a 19th century palazzo, built in the classic Florentine style. There is an elevator. The view, from the living room, dining room, and study, includes the Arno and the 'Oltrarno' section of the city, with Brunelleschi's Santo Spirito and the Pitti Palace, and beyond are the Belvedere Fortress and the Bellosguardo hill, with villas visited by Dante and Boccaccio and olive groves, vineyards, and 600-year old cypresses.
If you look out the windows to your left, you see the palaces lining the Arno and the Ponte Vecchio. In the midst of this intense little city, the apartment provides an oasis of spacious calm, the ideal refuge from visiting museums and shopping.
The apartment has a large living room (24 feet by 16 feet), a dining room that sits 10 adults, and an elegant study with beautiful views in two directions.
The master bedroom is 17 feet by 16 feet, with a queen-size bed, and has a large master bathroom en-suite (17 feet by 7 feet), with a bathtub and a large, separate stall shower. A smaller bedroom also has a queen-sized bed and a small bathroom with large shower en-suite.There is a third bedroom, with a single bed, off of the master bedroom. In addition, in the study, there is a brand-new, high-quality day bed and trundle, which can be made up as a single bed, as two single beds, or as a king-sized bed.
One of the joys of the apartment is a large (500 square foot), covered terrace, in the back of the apartment, well-furnished for enjoying cocktails or a meal, or just for hanging out on a lazy day.
Located on the Lungarno Amerigo Vespucci, in one of the most elegant neighborhoods of central Florence, the apartment is within a few minutes walking distance of all that Florence has to offer - art, history, culture, and world famous shops and celebrated restaurants. The new Opera di Firenze is a 15 minute walk. The main city park, the Cascine, with tennis courts and swimming pools, is a 10-minute walk away.
Just behind the flat is the Borg'Ognissanti, one of the most elegant shopping streets in Florence, with stores selling antiques, jewelry, leather, linen, groceries, pastries, plus Botticelli's parish church. Gucci, Pucci, Ferragamo, Valentino, Prada, Armani, Ermenegildo Zegna, Buccellati, Frette, etc., are all within easy walking distance - as are many wonderful shops that aren't world famous - yet.
Many of Florence's most celebrated restaurants are in the neighborhood, but if you want to cook in the flat's up-to-date kitchen, there also are superb butchers, bakers, fruit and vegetable vendors, a fish-monger, etc. The main city food market is at San Lorenzo, which is 10 minutes away by foot, and there is also an excellent modern supermarket 15 minutes away by foot. If you want to explore Tuscany, the main Florence railroad station is a 10-minute walk away. The main bus station is just before the railroad station.

This apartment has been in the family since just after World War II. It is our home in Europe, and we love it dearly. We frequently spend up to two or three months a year here, and hope to make it our full-time home when my wife retires in a couple of years.
The thing that makes this apartment truly special is its location. All of the wonderful things that Florence has to offer - art, music, shopping, food, wine, and so on - are at the very doorstep. But the apartment is a total escape from the hurly-burly of this intense little city. With its spactious rooms and terrace, and its breathtaking views over the Arno, it really provides a warm and tranquil oasis.
This apartment was perfect for our family of 7 vacation. My husband and I, along with our 3 children and his parents enjoyed both the sights and experience of Florence from George's well-loved apartment. The apartment is spacious and well appointed and within walking distance of all the historical, art and shopping destinations, while also being just far enough away to experience life as a local (and some peace and quiet at night). George has a binder with extensive notes for everything imaginable -- his favorite sights, neighborhood restaurants, local bakery with the most amazing flat bread and sandwiches, excursions, etc. It really exceeded all of our expectations. I highly recommend this apartment!
My husband and I rented this apartment for our honeymoon in Firenze and we had a marvelous time! The apartment is well-maintained, elegantly decorated, and comfortable. And the location is perfect. We could easily walk to the Duomo, the Uffizzi and the Ponte Vecchio. The views from the apartment looking onto the Arno are beautiful. We had all the comforts of home - AC, a washing machine, dishwasher, and a huge master bathroom! The owners are art enthusiasts who have taken great pride in their home. We were amidst great shopping, restaurants and markets. This place was truly a gem. If you're looking for a quiet and private alternative to a hotel, we definitely recommend this apartment. If you want to try authentic restaurants that are a bit off the beaten path, the owners provide excellent recommendations as well. Enjoy!
We stayed here for 8 nights and had a wonderful time. This apartment is very large by European standards and is within walking distance of the rail station (7 min) the Duomo (12 min), Academia Museum (20 min). Mr. Lesser was wonderful and provided lots of helpful information about not only the apartment and how everything worked, but also about good local restaurants, gelato stores, etc. I walk with forearm crutches and use a small electric scooter to go longer distances. The building and elevator are not accessible for wheelchairs unless you have someone that can carrier it up the step at the front of the building and fold it up to get it on the elevator (which is verrrry narrow). My son and daughter were very helpful in this regard and we made it work. Computer and internet service was great, the place is quiet except for the occasional ambulance that drives by, and beds were quite comfortable. Except for the wheelchair access, we would certainly come back again.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. Staying in an apartment is much more comfortable and relaxing than a hotel; especially one as elegant and original as yours. The apartment is in a perfect location to the many sites and museums, only a 10 to 20 minute walk. We loved the beautiful views of the Arno and the city from the apartment. Craig and I don't know which we like best, your home in Florence or your home in Cape May.
Many thanks for allowing us to stay in your Florence apartment over the Christmas holiday. We very much appreciate all the instructions, guidance and amenities of staying in such a lovely apartment! There isn't a thing we would recommend changing. The apartment is such a perfect representation of our time visiting beautiful, gracious and romantic Florence.
The kitchen was the gathering spot, and had all the equipment to allow us to fix a traditional Christmas Eve dinner for seven in style. The apartment's comfortable and spacious rooms allowed our family to group out to watch movies in the living room (our kids enjoyed "The Motorcycle Diaries" again!), play cards at the dining room table, and chat in the study over tea -- everything we would do if we celebrated Christmas at home.
The location is ideal for those traveling with or without cars. We looked forward to coming back to the apartment each day. It served as a perfect holiday destination. Many thanks!!
This was a wonderful apartment~! It was so clean, traditional and roomy. The outside patio is a treat and a delightful way to spend any meal or a good book. If you are going to book this flat, you should book a few extra days because you will want to lengthen your stay. Kids had room and freedom to roam and enjoy. Highly recommend it!
Tennis and swimming are available in the Cascine Park, which is 10 minutes away by foot. There is a gym about five minutes away by foot. People catch fish in the Arno just in front of the apartment. Just behind the apartment is an elegant shopping street, and all the famous Florentine shops are within a few minutes walking distance. The neighborhood has superb restaurants, food shops, bakeries, etc. The municipal theatre - the site of the Maggio Musicale festival - is a two-minute walk away. All the major museums and art-filled churches are within easy walking distance, as are the train station and the inter-city bus station.
