We call our wonderful vacation home, 'Serenity', because all your stress and worries will disappear when you're here!
This beautifully renovated, 120 year-old former mill sits just feet away from a lovely brook on a 7-acre, heavily wooded lot just off of Route 4 in Litchfield county, CT. In the summer, open the windows and you can hear the water flowing by from every room in the house. You'll love falling asleep to the sound!
In the winter months, you'll love being surrounded by a wintry wonderland as you are warmed by the cozy fireplace.
We know once you've experienced 'Serenity', you'll never want to leave!
There's lots of room to explore on the property.
Splash around in the brook, watch for trout, or just sit and gaze at the waterfall. We're very close to the Audubon preserve, so you never know what rare birds you might see (there's a Blue Heron that loves to stalk the brook trout right next to the house).
Like looking at nature but don't want to be out in it? You'll love the screened in patio with large sliding glass doors on three sides.
Feel like relaxing with a good movie? You'll enjoy the flat-screen TV and 24 hr. On-Demand movies through Comcast. Classic movie buffs will enjoy our Alfred Hitchcock movie library. Alfred Hitchcock was a good friend of a previous owner and often vacationed at the house! Of course, you'll never find a better spot for curling up with a good book.
Check out all the dining, shopping, and other activities available in beautiful Litchfield County, then come home and relax with a bubble bath in the huge clawfoot tub.
There's a fully-stocked kitchen with everything you need for whipping up a great meal and a nice big gas grill for those summer cookouts.
Winter sports fans will enjoy the nearby Mohawk Ski Resort.
Prime fall foliage country on designated 'Scenic Route'.
Minutes away from the Sharon Audubon Center and Wildlife Sanctuary, Mohawk Mountain Ski Resort, Housatonic State Forest and Housatonic Meadows State Park, Kent Falls State Park, Appalachian Trail, and Historic Cornwall Covered Bridge.
Many nearby cultural activities, including the TriArts Playhouse.
Several nearby lakes with public beaches.
Countless summer and fall concerts and festivals.
Close to fine dining and world-class antique shopping.
10 minute drive to Wassiac Train Station (90 minute train to Grand Central Station and Broadway shows).
My mom, friend and I enjoyed a girls trip mid-October and it was the best trip I have ever been on! Staying in your beautiful home added to the small town, charming experience! It is in a wonderful location, not far from other towns but just far enough that you feel like you're in your own little world. We felt very safe, cozy and really enjoyed our stay! We would definitely stay here again!
The home was great, perfect for our group. The setting is beautiful and the brook behind the house is really nice(and sounds wonderful through the bedroom windows). The gas fireplace was very nice on chilly mornings or when we returned in the evening. The downstairs bedroom has a bathroom and was perfect for my mother who accompanied us on the trip. Owners were super responsive and very easy to deal with.
This place was great! Cozy, comfortable, and very well furnished. This was an excellent location to stay and enjoy the autumn foliage (as you are right in the middle of it all). We did several day trips from here to Millerton, NY to catch a movie, Garlic & Harvest festival in Bethlehem, CT, and Sharon Audubon Society is just down the road and a great place to walk around. We would definitely recommend this location to others (actually already have). Hopefully we can visit in spring or summer in the future to enjoy the contrasting seasons. One note for travelers, if you are arriving very late at night as we did, you might want to bring a flashlight as the path to the house is very dark and not lit.
We rented this house for a Galantines Day Weekend and loved it! We fell in love with the house immediately and I was not ready to leave when check-out time came on Sunday. This house is so warm, cozy and homey. I miss it. We are definitely recommending this house to friends and want to come back. I also felt like if I had brought my friend who has a few physical limitations she could have gotten into the house easily and stayed on the lower level without a problem.
Myself, partner and another couple who are good friends rented this charming, rustic
home that was nestled in a forested area by a brook. The house had many windows,
all overlooking the surrounding property, where one could watch the beautiful fall leaves
drifting down and take in the sunlight filtering in through the trees. We had a lovely stay.
The bedrooms were very comfortable and airy as was the living room and dining room areas and the kitchen was well-equipped for all of our preparation of meals.
One of my personal pleasures was listening to the brook at night, which was a lullabye
to me and I three nights of restful, uninterrupted sleep, which was a luxury to me.
The surrounding area is quite breath-taking and the Audubon Center down the road from
the house, has great nature trails and we went on a bird watching walk with the
members there and they were very personable, informative, and accommodating and it
was one of the highlights of the weekend. If you love nature and hiking and art, this is an ideal area. We look forward to staying in this country hide-away again in the near future.
This was our second stay and the first time we rented the same home twice. I really like this place, it is great for a get away (this trip) as well as a longer vacation (last trip). The home is very peaceful, it has everything you, is comfortable and has a great modern bathroom. The cell phone coverage is not great as is the case with much of the surounding area, but there is use of a land line. Internet service was great and very fast. We expect to go back again.
