Welcome to "Ocean View Sanctuary"!

**For more details about specials for this home, see the Sanctuary Vacation Rentals website or call our office directly.

Tranquilizing views of Monterey Bay beckon from virtually every room in this lovely 1057 square feet 3-bedroom, 2-bath hilltop home nestled in a friendly Pacific Grove neighborhood within walking distance of the coastline and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The location is ideal, just blocks from downtown Pacific Grove shops and restaurants, and the 15-mile walking and bike trail that winds along the shoreline. Monterey, Carmel and Pebble Beach are all less than a 10-minute drive away; Big Sur about 45 minutes.

Upon your arrival you will be greeted with complimentary wine and cheese, passes to the renown Spa on the Plaza in downtown Monterey, tickets for a wine tasting at Scheid Vineyards’ tasting room in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is available to assist you during your stay. We have also provided spa amenities in the bathrooms, spa robes and beach gear.

A short flight of steps from the sidewalk takes you up to the front entrance. A long, narrow balcony runs along the front of the house affording a spot to breathe in the fresh ocean air and watch the gulls and pelicans soar over the blue waters of the Monterey Bay. The house combines nostalgic '50s architectural touches with sophisticated contemporary seashore-themed décor in ocean blues and browns set off by crisp whites.

The panelled living room, which has stunning bay views, features wall-to-wall windows, a beamed vaulted ceiling, gas fireplace, sofa, loveseat, a wooden coffee table and an antique bureau. Relax with popcorn and watch movies on a flat-screen TV. (Sorry, the piano in the photos is not available for guests’ use.) A telescope is provided for up-close looks at sailboats in the bay.

An adjacent open dining room, also with gorgeous bay views, has a wooden table and chairs for 6. A bank of built-in cabinets (with a pass through window to the kitchen) provide storage for table linens, games and puzzles.

Prepare gourmet meals in a handsome kitchen that has a sand-colored tile floor, white tile counter-tops, wooden cabinets and a central work station with a built-in electric stove top. Other appliances include an oven, dishwasher and microwave. Breakfast or casual meals can be enjoyed at a square oak table with 4 Windsor chairs. A nook with a washer and dryer is nearby.

A back door leads to an enclosed patio - partially framed in glass to let in the water views - equipped with a picnic table and grill.

The master bedroom, with a large window that looks out to the back deck, has a nautical theme with deep ocean blue and white patterned bedding on the king bed with foam topper, wooden end tables with tripod table lamps and an armchair. Bed can be made up as two twins.

The master bath, with white and pale yellow tiles and navy blue towels, and has an enclosed shower.

A second bedroom has a king bed with foam topper which can also be made into two twins, a white wooden dresser and bedside tables and table lamps with metal bases shaped like tree branches.

The third bedroom has twin beds with sea foam blue quilted bed coverlets, sea-themed artwork, a white wooden dresser and bedside stands and blue ceramic table lamps. These twin beds can be made up together with a foam topper for a king if preferred.

Additional sleeping possibilities include a day bed with a trundle to sleep two children located in the living room.

An additional bathroom, also tiled in white and pale yellow, has a tub with a shower.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome.

On-street parking directly in front of the home is available.

NOTE: THERE IS A SEPARATE STUDIO APARTMENT ON THE LOWER LEVEL OF THIS HOME THAT IS TYPICALLY OCCUPIED BY THE OWNER.

Good location, not the best house

  • 3 of 5

We (me, wife, 2 sisters, and mother in law) were in the house for 3 nights last weekend. The location and view of the Bay are pretty phenomenal, and overall the house is pretty sizeable; we could have fit 2-3 more people with no problem. But a few main problems

1. Cleanliness - the floors were very much dirty when we got there. We like being shoes off indoors, so it was really apparent areas that weren't properly cleaned

2. Internet - awful, slow, I can't even describe the last time I had to use internet that slow. I needed to work from home on Friday and my only choice was to hotspot to my cell phone.

3. Cooking smells from downstairs tenant - absolutely unbearable. All day saturday we couldn't stand being in the house.

4. Beds - they move around a lot since the floors are wood, and for the sake of flexibility the "king" beds are those two single combined beds with that awkward filler in the middle. Not comfortable sleeping on it at all.

3 stars for the location and size, otherwise I don't see why we would go back.

Owner's Response: Thank you for providing valuable feedback on your recent stay. I am sorry that you did not find the home to be perfect for your stay and truly wish that you would of reached out to your House Manger who would of taken any steps necessary to correct the issues in a timely manner. We will check on the Internet service and look into a solution to avoid the beds moving about. We will also follow up with our cleaning team and the tenant. Our goal is to provide a Sanctuary for our guests and through feedback such as yours we continue to improve our service and amenities. Shari-Lynn - Sanctuary Vacation Rentals Management Team

Great stay for group of friends for fun!

  • 4 of 5

It was such a pleasant stay at the place. It feels so much like home, everything was well provided. From kitchen to bedrooms, every little thing that I would need at home is being offered. The place is also very clean except the couch, but that's understandable. The location is perfect for the aquarium and restaurants. Hiking trails, restaurants and attractions were all within walkable distance. Definitely would recommend this place for friends and relatives!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write your review. The couch has now been cleaned. We are so very sorry we missed getting it cleaned before you arrived. We take pride in having all our homes immaculate when our guests arrive; somehow this must have gotten overlooked. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We look forward to your next visit!

Beautiful views, great location

  • 4 of 5

This home was beautifully situated on a hill with sweeping views of the water. We loved how this home had ample space for us to spread out and the rooms were very comfortable. The property was clean but had ants in the bathrooms. I also thought the bathrooms needed more places to hang towels. The guest bathroom had a bath with glass sliding doors that were very fragile and seemed like they would fall off at any moment. The house had everything you could need, but I suggest bringing your own soap for the shower. I highly recommend the owner replace the current coffee maker with a Keurig. The property manager was easy to reach and helpful. We appreciated the welcome folder and visited many of the places listed. We had a fantastic stay and would definitely book this home again!

Owner's Response: Hello, and thank you for taking the time to post a review of your stay in Pacific Grove. We apologize that you had to deal with ants, it has been an active summer for them in the area with the weather working more in their favor than ours, but we have been working very closely with several local companies to attend to these issues as quickly as they happen. We do provide some excellent Trader Joes products in our bath areas, but yes if you are used to specific styles or kinds of bath soaps we would encourage you to bring some along - it is almost impossible to try and stock the perfect product that would be suitable for every type of person. We do have Keurig's in some of our houses, but to be honest we are trying to reduce the amount of plastic that gets placed in our landfills and are still trying to find the ideal solution. We are very pleased that you loved having Julia as your House Manager - she is one of our standout team members here at Sanctuary Vacation Rentals. Thanks again for the review, we look forward to your next visit to the area and having you stay once again in one of the amazing homes that we at Sanctuary Vacation Rentals are pleased to represent.
