Tranquil views of Monterey Bay beckon from virtually every room in this lovely 1057 square feet 3-bedroom, 2-bath hilltop home in a friendly Pacific Grove neighborhood within walking distance of the coastline and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The location is ideal, just blocks from downtown Pacific Grove shops and restaurants, and the 15-mile walking and bike trail that winds along the shoreline. Monterey, Carmel and Pebble Beach are all less than a 10-minute drive away; Big Sur about 45 minutes.
Upon your arrival you will be greeted with complimentary wine and cheese, passes to the renown Spa on the Plaza in downtown Monterey, tickets for a wine tasting at Scheid Vineyards’ tasting room in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is available to assist you during your stay. We have also provided spa amenities in the bathrooms, spa robes and beach gear.
A short flight of steps from the sidewalk takes you up to the front entrance. A long, narrow balcony runs along the front of the house affording a spot to watch the gulls and pelicans soar over the blue waters of the Monterey Bay. The house combines nostalgic '50s architectural touches with sophisticated contemporary seashore-themed décor in ocean blues and browns set off by crisp whites.
The panelled living room, which has stunning bay views, features wall-to-wall windows, a beamed vaulted ceiling, gas fireplace, sofa, loveseat, a wooden coffee table and an antique bureau. Relax with popcorn and watch movies on a flat-screen TV. (Sorry, the piano in the photos is not available for guests’ use.) A telescope is provided for up-close looks at sailboats in the bay.
An adjacent open dining room, also with gorgeous bay views, has a wooden table and chairs for 6. A bank of built-in cabinets (with a pass through window to the kitchen) provide storage for table linens, games and puzzles.
Prepare gourmet meals in a handsome kitchen that has a sand-colored tile floor, white tile counter-tops, wooden cabinets and a central work station with a built-in electric stove top. Other appliances include an oven, dishwasher and microwave. Breakfast or casual meals can be enjoyed at a square oak table with 4 Windsor chairs. A nook with a washer and dryer is nearby.
A back door leads to an enclosed patio - partially framed in glass to let in the water views - equipped with a picnic table and grill.
The master bedroom, with a large window that looks out to the back deck, has a nautical theme with deep ocean blue and white patterned bedding on the king bed with foam topper, wooden end tables with tripod table lamps and an armchair. Bed can be made up as two twins.

The home was spacious and well appointed. From the complimentary wine and spa passes to the perfectly made table settings and notes around the house, the place was great. And the view of the bay over the rooftops of Pacific Grove was icing on the cake. Very reliable wifi from the multiple boosters scattered around the place. Everywhere you turned, there is a nice little amenity, including throw blankets next to the couch, electric candles on the bar, beach towels by the door, flashlights in the night stands, coupons to local establishments, access to the gas powered fire place, multiple sets of bath towels in each room, etc, etc.
The only (very nit picky) things to note about the property are:
- Very few grounded outlets. Most portable devices don't need them anymore, but in case you bring any power adapters that require 3 prongs, there's one receptacle in the kitchen. Otherwise, there are 2 pronged outlets all over the place.
- The shower head in the shared bathroom is maybe 5 ft tall, which requires some yoga poses for the 6 ft+ club. This could be resolved with a hand held shower wand that can be mounted higher on the wall than the spigot. However, the master bath has a much higher head, so we just used that one for hair washing.
- We loved how close the house is to local shops and restaurants, but the steep climb to the house is quite a feat after a long day of exploring and libations. I'm sure we're better for it though.
- Some way to play music other than MTV on the TV. Doesn't need to be big enough to disturb the neighbors, but just a little Bluetooth speaker would be nice for fireside chats.
Working with the property management was very easy. I would say that all the earlier complaints have been well addressed because the process is straight forward and well thought out and communication was fast and courteous. It's not as easy as a direct rental with an owner, but you would likely not get the same level of detail either. High five to Sanctuary Homes. Thanks for making our vacation happy.
This property is everything they claim and then some. Whenever we chose a vacation rental there is some anticipation as we near the property. "Is the place what we expected or is it a disappointment."
This was way beyond all of our expectations.
Lets start with the view: spectacular. Monterrey/Pacific Grove Bay can be seen from the very expansive windows in the living area and 2 of the bedrooms. It never got old. Every morning when we opened the curtains, the beauty we saw was sensational.
This location of this property is perfect. The place is only a 10 minute walk through the charming neighbor to the water, the Monterey Aquarium, the Outlet stores, movies and restaurants. It is also a 5 minute drive to downtown Monterey and 12 minutes to Carmel.
The house itself also exceeded our expectations. The well decorated rooms are large and roomy. It is well taken care of and very clean.
Each of the 3 bedrooms where set up with king size beds as we had 3 couples in our party. I was initially concerned 1 or 2 of the couples would have a small room BUT this is not the case. All 3 bedrooms are roomy and comfortable, and have a lot of storage places. The beds were extremely comfortable. The house provides many extra pillows and blankets and even have baskets of throw blankets in the living room.
The kitchen was my favorite. We all love to cook and/or bake and the kitchen provided a fully stock kitchen of quality appliances, utensils and cookware. The oven is standard or convection, which was a delight to bake in.
Right outside the kitchen is a fairytale like garden with an outdoor picnic table and benches. Though it was too cold to eat out there, I spent time each day just walking around the garden and enjoying the space.
The owner sometimes stays on the property in an attached home but we never saw or heard her unless we asked her a question via text.
I plan to book this house whenever we are in the area.
Six of us shared this beautiful home in Pacific Grove. It has a great view of the ocean, a well appointed kitchen, it was meticulously clean and within walking distance (.5 mile or so) to Cannery Row, the Aquarium and the beach. Quiet and comfortable.
This is a well appointed house with almost panoramic views of the water (if only we could chop down a few of the neighbor's trees to the right - heehee). It was clean, spacious, had extra comfy beds, a kitchen stocked liked no other, and walking distance to the Monterey Aquarium. We would stay her again without hesitation. The property manager answered all our questions quickly. Accessing the property was simple, using the instructions provided. More sitting space in the main room would have been appreciated for our group of 5. We had to move the furniture around so we could all watch the Olympics on the tv. Otherwise, the place was close to perfect.
The wine and crackers were a welcome sight after our four hour drive. The home is comfortable and welcoming within easy walking to town, Canary Row and the coast. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed at added benefit of foggy, cool mornings which were a treat after our 100+ degree days at home.
Reviews are an important part of assisting others with choosing which vacation rental property is right for them. I had read the reviews and looked at all of the pictures provided. I worried the bathrooms and kitchen looked out of date in the pictures. This house has a very homey feel to it - comfortable and well equipped. The location is great for walking to the aquarium, Lover's Point, and other area attractions. The best part and most difficult to describe - ocean views from 3 different sets of windows in the open living/dining area! The pictures can't do it justice. You'll enjoy amazing sunrises and sunsets right there on the patio or in the living/dining area. My husband and I stayed here with our 2 sons, ages 17 and 12. The whole family enjoyed this home and we hope to visit again.
The Monterey Peninsula is unique in its combination of breathtaking natural resources and a multiplicity of cultural and entertainment possibilities. You can find something for every possible taste. For nature lovers, there is the diversity of mountain and sea, for picnicking, surfing, fishing, horseback riding, hiking, beachcombing, bird-watching, kayaking, scuba diving, tidepooling, biking and more. If you want a man-made excitement, we have art galleries galore, excellent fine-art museums, local theater, outstanding restaurants, boutiques, a natural history and a children's museum, a world-class aquarium, and that's just for starters. History buffs will have a field day exploring the adobes of Monterey. There's so much to do that you cannot possibly do it all in one visit, which means you will have to come back.
