Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, Loft + Great room, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-7)

The Mountain Pond House is a very unique property. It is located on the edge of a stocked, spring fed pond. There are two bedrooms with an additional queen size futon. This cottage is just the right spot to come relax, and enjoy the peace and quite. In the summer you hear the frogs and night creatures. There are deer aplenty and an occasional bear.

There are lots of things to do to help you get reconnected. There are 2 miles of mowed trails on the 125 acre property and walking sticks for hiking. The trail goes down by Walkers Creek. Fishing is really good in the 2 ponds. They have been stocked with bass and bream. If you feel real ambitious, you can go to Goshen Pass and go across the hanging bridge and hike up Jump Mountain. The Maury River and runs thru the pass and it is stocked with trout thru out the year.

The cottage is close enough to Lexington to visit all the historic sites.

Parents of the students at VMI, W&L and Southern University enjoy the Pond House and getting their kids away for a change. We are close enough to Natural Bridge and the Safari Park to make a fun day.

Just come and see for yourself. You will not be disappointed!

Best Vacation Getaway!!

  • 4 of 5

This was our honeymoon getaway, the cabin was perfect. It's breathtakingly beautiful as soon as you walk in, plenty of space for entertaining or to just sit quietly and enjoy a good book. It was very clean and with all the amenities you'll need. My only complain will be the water smell but it's understandable coming from a well. The location is perfect and we enjoyed the drove and scenery. William the owner was very nice and pleasant to deal with. We are already planning to return!!

Owner's Response: We had an unusual dry spell for about 4 weeks. This caused the level of sulfur in the well to concentrate from lack of rain. Normally this is not a problem. Now with recent rain, this is not a problem. Thanks for your honesty. William

Great country getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for a long weekend and loved it! The property was just gorgeous - so secluded and quiet and just green all around. The view from the fire pit on top of the hill was stunning! The decor of the house was rustic and relaxing. The house was very clean and stocked with everything you would need! Our dog was with us and welcomed by the owner happily - he also enjoyed hiking the trails on the property and even hopped in the yellow canoe with us on the pond. There was also a lot to do outside of the property - we recommend hiking Goshen Pass, seeing the Natural Bridge/Caverns, visiting Rockbridge Winery and Devils Backbone Brewery but our favorite by far was Hulls Drive-In theater! Just note that almost all of these activities are 30 mins or more from the property - but the windy roads you drive through to get around are beautiful and help pass the time. Highly recommend to anyone looking to get away from fast-paced, busy life and relax!

Great memories made!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic weekend at this house. The owner was super friendly, too. Our 4-year old and 2-year old enjoyed running around the property, and even though it was a 20-minute drive to Lexington, we enjoyed taking the back rounds and checking out the scenery!

This was a wonderful weekend at Mountain Pond House. It is exactly as the pictures show it. The views are breathtaking. It is peaceful and quiet but only a short distance to Lexington along scenic roads. We did some fishing, boating, and walking. Very relaxing. The owner is wonderful and made sure all of our needs were met. We can't wait to come back and will bring our telescope to view the stars.

Have never felt more welcome and relaxed than when I stayed at the Mountain Pond House.

  • 5 of 5

I wrote a thank you email to the owner and feel it sums up my feelings better than writing a review.

"William, thank you so much for sharing the Mountain Pond House with Breanne, Rook and I. We truly had a wonderful time there despite the poor weather. Every morning I woke, grabbed some coffee, my camera and the dog then went to the top of the hill with the fire pit to see if I could spot any deer. I was successful all but one morning seeing wildlife in abundance. Both the wife and I took advantage of the trails and went hiking the first morning we were there (before the rain really set it). I was able to spend some time playing with a little radio control boat in the pond a couple of the days (the kid in me loves to have a little fun). And we took your advice and drove through Goshen Pass on Saturday. It was absolutely stunning (we also stopped and crossed the hanging bridge a couple of times).

Again, thank you so much. You were a most welcoming host and certainly made us feel like we were home."

Perfect cabin getaway

  • 5 of 5

We booked this cabin for the 4th of July and couldn't be more pleased. We had nice, cool, clear and sunny weather which we aren't used to having in July. Since it was just 2 adults, a 2 year old, and a dog, we were able to stay all on the main level (although older children would enjoy the upper level) This is a perfect place for rest and relaxation. Even though we were using this as a base to explore Lexington and Natural Bridge, we equally enjoyed the quiet time on the deck by the pond and roasting marshmallows in then outdoor stone fireplace.
