Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, Loft + Great room, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-7)

The Mountain Pond House is a very unique property. It is located on the edge of a stocked, spring fed pond. There are two bedrooms with an additional queen size futon. This cottage is just the right spot to come relax, and enjoy the peace and quite. In the summer you hear the frogs and night creatures. There are deer aplenty and an occasional bear.

There are lots of things to do to help you get reconnected. There are 2 miles of mowed trails on the 125 acre property and walking sticks for hiking. The trail goes down by Walkers Creek. Fishing is really good in the 2 ponds. They have been stocked with bass and bream. If you feel real ambitious, you can go to Goshen Pass and go across the hanging bridge and hike up Jump Mountain. The Maury River and runs thru the pass and it is stocked with trout thru out the year.

The cottage is close enough to Lexington to visit all the historic sites.

Parents of the students at VMI, W&L and Southern University enjoy the Pond House and getting their kids away for a change. We are close enough to Natural Bridge and the Safari Park to make a fun day.

Just come and see for yourself. You will not be disappointed!

Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had the perfect , relaxing time. It was everything that was promised and everything we expected and more. So very quiet and secluded but close to the things that you may want to see and do. We would definitely return. Thanks.

Property was well maintained, comfortable and private.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the privacy and opportunity to relax. The ponds were great for fishing. We also enjoyed the outdoor BBQ. During our stay we observed abundant wildlife. Great stay and would recommend to anyone seeking a private country retreat.

I have rented Mr. Payne's Pond House twice now and it was a top notch experience. If you are looking for a relaxing country getaway then book this place.

Quiet and relaxing visit

  • 5 of 5

We spent a few days here over the 4th of July to escape the heat, crowds and noise of DC. It was exactly what we needed. No noise - no road noise, no voices, no air traffic. Just birds and rustling trees. Inside with the windows shut, we couldn't even hear the rain. It was just the two of us and our dog, so the house was plenty big and pretty well stocked. (it was missing measuring cups & spoons but I imagine these had been recently broken/gone missing & will be replaced soon, since everything else was there). The pond was frequented by Canadian geese (until our dog scared them away) and they can be messy but it's not something that can be controlled. Rabbits and wild blackberries were everywhere. And lots of ticks, so be sure to pack bug spray and check yourself before you come in the house. We left the property once for an hour to visit the local winery and spent the rest of our time reading, fishing and walking around the property. It was exactly what we needed.

Great Property

  • 5 of 5

Had a great weekend at the Mountain Pond House. Location is beautiful and there is plenty to do on the property. Inside of the cottage was impressive with the stone floors and log-cabin type furniture. Awesome fire pit at the top of the property. Owner was great to work with. Would highly recommend this house.

Best Vacation Getaway!!

  • 4 of 5

This was our honeymoon getaway, the cabin was perfect. It's breathtakingly beautiful as soon as you walk in, plenty of space for entertaining or to just sit quietly and enjoy a good book. It was very clean and with all the amenities you'll need. My only complain will be the water smell but it's understandable coming from a well. The location is perfect and we enjoyed the drove and scenery. William the owner was very nice and pleasant to deal with. We are already planning to return!!

Owner's Response: We had an unusual dry spell for about 4 weeks. This caused the level of sulfur in the well to concentrate from lack of rain. Normally this is not a problem. Now with recent rain, this is not a problem. Thanks for your honesty. William
