Sweet & Majestic Family Week!

  • 5 of 5

I was a Travel Agent for many years. I know how important a planned family retreat/vacation is! THIS place, THESE people, are AWESOME! I could write a book, but will try to hit most of the many highlights. Older, Charming, Rustic, but OH so sweet & clean!!!

1. Getting there... easy to find and close enough to Estes downtown, to drive there in 3 minutes, but away from the hustle, bustle, traffic & crowds. Way easier to enter the Rocky Mt. Park, as it is closer to the entrance and a bit away from the very busy Estes Riverwalk!

2. Cleanliness of the Cabin... Excellent! I'm picky, and was VERY pleased with everything from floors, windows, bathrooms, oven, etc. Mr. Clean would give it an A+!

3. Sleeping... nice beds, comfy linen, plush pillows, plenty of blankets and the 2 bedrooms are private & comfy! The 2 hide-a-beds (together in the living room) ,great for kids, 1 adult or 2 small - average adults. They are comfy couches when put up!

4. The blinds throughout the home are very nice if you want privacy and dark! They lift all the way up for FANTASTIC views out every window!!!

5. Back Garden/ BBQ/Picnic/ FireStove area... priceless and our" S'Mores hang out"!

6. Nice shower, tub, and plenty of towels.

7. Wonderful "WELL STOCKED" Kitchen/ Dining area with a view that almost looks fake (it's that nice) It is the, "Pay It Forward Kitchen". We found condiments & other goodies, so we left lots of non-perishables too! Check INTO the cabin before you do your shopping at the SAFEWAY (5 minutes away) We bought Ketchup, Mustard, & seasonings.... OMG, didn't need to! LOL

8. Fantastic WIFI, great TV, super books, sweet Guest Book, the porch SWING.... Priceless!

9. We were there 6 nights, so the Washer & Dryer were a great asset!

10. The entry breezeway (porch) is a fantastic place to sit & watch the wildlife and just stare at the mountains.

11. Bob & Nancy were AMAZING about getting back to me; immediately, about all my concerns ( coffee pot, wine glasses, drinking water, etc) This is a HUGE PLUS! This couple, and their local manager are ON IT! Thank you for a super week.

Because I am very honest, I have to state... this is NOT a party house for loud people! We were not, so we were okay, but the neighbors are all about the serenity & proper care of the environment. So if you want all the things I listed, and LOVE the mountains... Book this place, but I hope there is room for US next time!!!! xo Leslie & family

Great cabin, will continue to come back

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the Mountain Meadow retreat. It was our second time staying at this property and there will be many more! We love the convenience of being a few minutes from town, but still secluded enough to see plenty of wildlife.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review, all those features are special to us too. It is fun to set out on the enclosed patio, look at the stars and hear the coyotes howl as the sun goes down.

Enjoyed the close proximity to Estes Park and RMNP

  • 3 of 5

Our first impressions were hard to get over at this location. The road to the home is a disaster with the main material being dirt and potholes. We were glad we didn't have to travel far down it, maybe 20-30 yards. We were then hit with an odor when we opened the door that wasn't too bad on day 1, but by day 5, we were certain something must have died somewhere in or under the home. There was a rodent trap located in the living quarters, so we never felt comfortable to lay the 2 month old on the floor without someone right by just in case a rodent came out of hiding. The newer bedroom addition to the home is quite nice with a king-size bed and a newer and larger bathroom. The other bathroom was a bit of a challenge for a 6'3" husband and 5'8" wife with arthritis and osteoporosis. The wife didn't feel comfortable with the high climb into the old-fashioned tub for a shower, but the small bathtub was also difficult for bathing without the shower. The 6'5" teenage son which would have normally used the same bathroom as his mom and dad, opted to use the bathroom of his brother and sister-in-law's room, which was a bit of a challenge with privacy, but he would have really struggled in the other tub/shower arrangement. The kitchen was fully stocked but the non-stick ware pans were somewhat chipping away. The newer red-copper pan was quite nice, though. We were surprised by all the stocked food, but because of that, we were a little pressed for space for our own supplies. We were only given 3 dishwashing tabs for a 4 night stay and we were fearful that we would be charged for not having re-stocked them based on the note left in the cabin notebook. We feel like those types of supplies should definitely not be expected to be replaced if used. We weren't charged, however, and our complete deposit was refunded. Check-out time was listed as both 10 and 11 in the supplied notebook, but we were pretty certain it was 10 a.m., so we were heading out with final things at 9:50 and the cleaning staff pulled into the drive. The house is very nicely decorated, but the couches are starting to show some signs of needing to be replaced. Estes Park accommodations are much higher than where we spent the first part of our vacation week, Colorado Springs. If we return, we may choose to stay again in Colorado Springs and travel a few days down to this area, or stay in the Denver/Boulder area and just do some more driving.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your thoughtful critic of the cabin. The county road is not in the city and is badly maintained. We have complained to the county and the city but they will not take responsibility for this road. This has been a rainy summer and I suppose this has contributed to the pot hole condition. Because of your letter I am going to hire a road crew to correct this pot hole condition up to our property and pay for it myself. This is a work in progress and again yours is the first complaint on this road. This cabin was built in 1927 so we have taken special precautions to keep the pests from sharing the house by hiring a pest control company. We have not had any complaints from other guests about this matter but we will take special precautions to have our cleaning staff check for rodents. Regarding the size of the hall bathtub, it is an antique tub and adds to the charm of the cabin. I am sorry it didn't meet your expectiations. It is featured on our web page.
