Villa, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2-8)

Location:

Located on the beautiful southeastern Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica and within Gandoca-Mazanillo wildlife Refuge, Villa Noor is the perfect getaway for absolute tranquility. With its private access to a magnificent unspoiled beach, Villa Noor sits on 5 acres of tropical garden where you can find giant rainforest trees, a small creek, birds, howler monkeys and other wildlife species. The beach house is situated just before Manzanillo village: the journey from San Jose is about 3.5 - 4 hours depending on the traffic conditions. (Ask us for more details on how to get to the property).

The House:

Built in 2011, Villa Noor has all the commodities of a modern house: Wi-Fi, cable plasma TV, DVD player, fully equipped kitchen, hot water, etc. The property has its own private road to get to the sandy almost-deserted beach (just 100 meters). The house has 2 floors (220m2) and can keep up to 9 persons. On the first floor, there is one big bedroom with a double bed, one bathroom, a spacious open living/dinning area with a sofa bed, a plasma TV, a DVD player (bring along your favorite movies and music). Also, there’s a dinning area that can seat up to 12 people. The kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator, stoves, oven, microwave, toaster, coffee machine, pans, cutleries, chinaware, etc. On the second floor, there are 2 big bedrooms: one with queen + single bed and the other room with a double bed. Also, you will find a private modern bathroom. You will also enjoy the spacious chilled-out terrace with its beautiful tropical garden view, its 2 hammocks and comfortable seats. The whole house is screened for mosquito protection. Towels and linens are provided.

Nearby villages and activities:

Manzanillo and Puerto Viejo are a unique Caribbean blend of local Costa Rican people, Jamaican descendants, indigenous people, worldwide expats, tourists, surfers, backpackers, etc. The atmosphere and energy in that area is very laid-back and relaxed.

Manzanillo (600m) is a small fishing village with a few restaurants, grocery shops and small boutiques. Make sure you don’t miss Manzanillo’s famous seafood restaurant: Maxi’s. Puerto Viejo (13 km) is a very chilled-out village where you will find more options for restaurants, bars, nightlife entertainments, etc. Also in Puerto Viejo: ATM’s, a drugstore, a doctor, a Bank, some boutiques, big supermarkets.

Activities close to Villa Noor include: kayaking, swimming, windsurfing, wildlife viewing, snorkeling/diving, biking, fishing, boating and restaurants/bars.

Quiero vivir ahí!

  • 5 of 5

This is the third time we stay. We love coming here every year.

We love the privacy of the house. Being surrounded by 5 acres of forest is what does it for us. We like to sit upstairs drink or coffee in the morning here to holler monkeys and on the little beautiful animals around. I definitely recommend it to friends and family.

One of the Best in Manzanillo!

  • 5 of 5

A great spacious place on an amazing property. Lots of room and an amazing beach out front. The place was secure and felt safe with the care takers on site. They kept to themselves but were available to answer questions if needed. The owners phone number is by the phone and he was available within a reasonable amount of time too. The internet was also a nice touch. Lots of cool wildlife on the property each morning too. I would definitely stay at Villa Noor again!

This is a nice house with all the necessities. It is located in the forest and there is a lot of wild life to see, While there we saw hundreds of monkeys, they are in the trees all around the house. We also saw sloths, parrots. There is a nice beach just a short walk down a path. One tip,be wary of fire ants, if you don't see them they are on you quickly and their bites do burn. The owner Omar is very nice and easy to deal with. The only negative for me was they need to have a grill at the house. Overall a nice place to stay and I highly recommend.

Owner's Response: Dear Brian, thanks for you message and advices ! We used to have a small bbq but it got damaged because of the sea salt. We are thinking to buy one in stainless steal. Thanks again, hope you will come back !

Amazing experience

This location is prime! I'm not quite sure a 4x4 is required to drive to the home, the roads leading up to the driveway are paved and the driveway is a rocky and bumpy dirt road, that said, I THINK a regular car could drive it. There is a gate for added sense of security, all doors and windows lock. Bugs can climb under the doors but we stayed on the second floor. There are 3 bedrooms and 4 beds of different sizes and 2 longer sofas. The two hammocks upstairs were the best! We spent a lot of time on the patio. Every morning, without fail, we heard howler monkeys at 4-6am, at first they sounded like dogs growling or even boars but they're definitely monkeys! The house is surrounded by lush rain forest foliage and the short trail in the backyard leads right to the beach (where there's great snorkeling off shore!). The house is right across the street from Abel Bustamante, we went on 3 tours with him - a long jungle hike, snorkeling and a night hike to sea a huge leatherback sea turtle laying eggs. He's incredibly friendly and knowledgeable! The easy drive to Puerto Viejo was about 20 minutes. You can't really get lost because there's one main paved road. There was a supermercado and a few restaurants in walking distance, although the best supermercados with lots of variety were in Puerto Viejo. I didn't have cell reception but my friends and I took advantage of taking photos while we were out and uploading them online using the house wifi, we also streamed music. In hind sight, we should have brought a speaker for sufficient sound. Mosquitoes were brutal, they love me and ate me alive despite using lots of bug spray - the beds came with optional mosquito nets even though the house was enclosed. Also, if you wash your clothes, they won't dry due to humidity! This house is one of the nicer ones in the area, better than a hostel and many open cabins. It was nice to have our own home and this site was very simple to use. Owner and housekeepers were very friendly. I definitely recommend this rental!

* Tip - if the knives are dull, use the underside of a ceramic mug to scrape the sides of the knife point a few times, wash knife and use! Be careful though. My mom told me this trick and it worked well on the knives in the house.

Also, under the kitchen sink drain, there's a sediment catcher, be sure to empty it out in to the organics bucket when the sink starts to clog.

Owner's Response: Dear Mariko, thanks a lot for your review and great activity recommendations. I am sure that you had a lot of fun during these tours ! Concerning a car rental, we recommend having a car but it really doesn't have to be a 4x4, a regular one will work. Also regarding the knives, I will look into that with our house caretakers to check the ones that need replacement. Once again thanks for staying at Villa Noor. Pura Vida !

Villa Noor Manzanillo, Costa Rica

  • 5 of 5

Excellent place to stay in Manzanillo. Probably the best--! and the closest house to the town and beach (which is right down a private path a few hundred feet ) There is a great second floor open balcony where we spent much of the day as a family- playing games - doing homework and reading. Surprisingly- the balcony had few intruders and then just a few bugs and a skink or 2. We also watched wildlife all hours of the day and night. The house is quite secluded and still very easy walk to town. Recommendations? Maybe bring a hair dryer.. binoculars for sure .. We did not do a lot of activities choosing to not use the internet or cell phones and trying to get bored. We had bug spray for mosquitos but did not need or use it in the season we stayed...March/April. We did let the teens watch TV the second to last day and they found 4 movie channels in English--- so had a good movie and popcorn night.

Manzanillo, Costa Rica was different than any place we have visited in Mexico. Very indiginous - but also very hostel traveler friendly. Prices for everything- meals - clothing -etc..were about the same or even more than in the United States I suppose due to it being remote. We noticed though in San Jose it was also typical for a meal to be $10 to $20 US - with breakfast more like $9 with a drink. Few homes have this much room and such a reasonable price. You would not make a mistake renting this ... very good contact with the caretakers and the owner... Lovely place !

Owner's Response: Thanks a lot Jerry for the review ! We're glad that you had a good time in Costa Rica. Not using the internet/cellphones and enjoying the wildlife scenery offered in Villa Noor was perhaps the best way to evacuate the stress from everyday life. Thanks also for the recommendations ! Pura Vida !
