Located on the beautiful southeastern Caribbean Coast of Costa Rica and within Gandoca-Mazanillo wildlife Refuge, Villa Noor is the perfect getaway for absolute tranquility. With its private access to a magnificent unspoiled beach, Villa Noor sits on 5 acres of tropical garden where you can find giant rainforest trees, a small creek, birds, howler monkeys and other wildlife species. Amazing & perfect for kids

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Villa Noor. The house and grounds are beautiful, well-maintained and private. We loved sitting in the hammocks spotting animals (bring binoculars!). We saw two types of monkeys, parrots and a toucan. Cindy and her husband were very nice and helpful. The beach is absolutely perfect for kids. Gentle waves, not too deep with perfect sand. You can walk to the National Park too. I really cannot imagine a better place to stay - it was the highlight of our trip to Costa Rica.

A secure haven for taking our minds off the day to day stressors we were looking to escape.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I have always sought those out of the mainstream vacation spots embraced by most. The long days of travel were worth every hour to venture into miles of amazing beaches with late am walks where you often found only your own foot prints, mesmerizing waters and exceptional nature just waiting to be explored, we found them all at Villa Noor. While I must admit the experience is not for everyone, but for us, it could not have been more fulfilling and therapeutic. Because we enjoy embarking on different ventures in different environments, we always ask ourselves at the closure of each, would we return? The answer to this question was, with certainty, we would. And so, we add this place a relatively small list of special locations which will always draw us back.

With enthusiasm I highly recommend Villa Noor, and its exceptional location, comfortable and clean house and the great adventures there to be experienced.

Beautiful Beach Front

  • 4 of 5

The oceanfront Villa Noor Oceanfront house is on a beautiful piece of property on a beautiful beach. We loved the outdoor covered porch and the jungle sounds. The owner/manager Omar was nice and easy to deal with and responded quickly. The house is reflected in the pictures as shown. The house is nicely built with lots of teak wood. The property is beautiful.

The downfall is the roaches inside the house. I realize that it is a jungle home and there are a lot of bugs in the jungle, but this was in excess, roaches jumping out of the silverware drawers, etc when opened. We had to pre-wash everything before we used the utensils, plates, etc. The other jungle house I rented did not have roaches, so it is possible to not have them in your jungle home and some care needs to be taken to eradicate the roaches.

There are two dogs on site. I am a total dog lover! The little one belongs to the caretakers, and the other is a large mix bread, Smokey, who was chained up when we arrived. The caretakers advised Smokey is chained up because some people are afraid of him. I asked the owner/manager Omar if the dog could be let off the chain. He was kind enough to let the caretakers take Smokey off the chain and once off he was a happy guy that followed us to the beach with no problems. He is a good dog but can jump up and if you have little children this could knock them down or frighten them. Smokey may be required to be chained during your stay if you are afraid of dogs. So glad he was off his chain during our stay.

The caretakers, Cynthia and her husband, are very nice. I do not speak Spanish and Cynthia does not speak English. However, with apps on our Iphones we were able to communicate. The caretakers' accommodations are attached to the rental house. The upstairs covered room was lovely and offered great jungle privacy where we could watch the incredible wildlife in the trees and listen to the nightly rainfall. The bed was comfortable; internet was great and lots of hot water for showers.

Manzanillo has beautiful beaches. The main reason I can only give this home a 4 star rating is because of the roaches and chained dog; if the roaches are eliminated and Smokey is free to run then this jungle home is a nice place to relax on the Caribbean side. I love the Caribbean side of Costa Rica!

Owner's Response: Thank you Leslie for taking your time to give this review. I am glad you had a great experience overall. I am bit surprised regarding the roaches because you didn't mention it to me and we exchanged a lot of emails during your stay. It is also first time we have a comment regarding this issue; I will see with the house caretakers what can be done regarding this matter. Smokey is a good dog but as you mentioned, some guests prefer to have him chained during their stay and we respect this. Thanks again for your comments. Pura Vida !

Great week with friends

  • 4 of 5

We spent a week at Villa Noor in mid-January. Our hosts, Cindy and Freddie, were very helpful despite the language barrier. The Villa was well stocked and comfortable. The property felt like our on wildlife reserve where we saw Iguanas, Jesus Christ lizards (those guys that walk on water), toucans, leaf cutter ants, sloths, kinkajou, skinks, blue crabs, butterflies if many sorts including the wonderful blue morpho, moths that look just like leaves, hermit hummingbirds, and howler monkeys! The beach is a short stroll away as is the center of Manzanillo. Manzanillo abuts the Gandaco-Manzanillo refuge where we went for a day long hike with Abel Bustamante. He's a great guide, very lively and knowledgeable and speaks English well. He gave us a lot of tips on spotting wildlife as well as a lot of commentary on life in Costa Rica. With a car, you can access Puerta Viejo (great for surfers- too much congestion for us!) and the mountains easily from Manzanillo though the busses seem to be able to take you everywhere.

Villa Noor

  • 4 of 5

Our overall experience here was great. We loved the surrounding jungle, the almost private beach, and the location. We saw 10-12 Howler Monkeys where the beach path opens to the beach, which was really cool. The cable TV is 90% spanish programming (we don't speak spanish) and the wireless is a little slow, but was reliable during our stay. We also had a few run ins with bugs the first night.
