Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island Cottage Rental Photos and Description

4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps 6 adults & 2 children

In a prime location on Mount Desert Island Maine, this property has been lovingly cared for and enjoyed by the same family for four generations. The Cottage was designed and built in 2003-2004 by our father, Caleb, to take full advantage of this ideal spot which has direct access to the water, dock, mooring and gorgeous views of the harbor.

Near the end of a private road on Connor Point, you will feel the peacefulness of a true get-away. Steps away from hiking in Acadia National Park, and yet you are only a 5 minute drive from the charming downtown of Southwest Harbor and 25 minutes from bustling and fun town of Bar Harbor. Feel life slow down as you enjoy your morning coffee on the large deck overlooking the ocean and decide whether you will hike, sail, swim, kayak or shop. Great place for kids with large grassy area, beach combing, and many kid-friendly activities. Ideal for up to 6 adults and 2 children.

Accommodations: Our cottage features clean, open and bright rooms overlooking the ocean, a fully equipped kitchen and all of the modern amenities to enhance your stay. All the modern amenities: washer, dryer, dishwasher, gas stove, microwave, satellite TV, DVD, high speed internet (wifi), and heat. Great for boaters with both dock and mooring access.

Nearby Activities: Walk just a few minutes to hiking trails, or drive (or take a free bus) around Mt. Dessert Island where you can stop to hike up mountains, swim in lakes, view the rocky coast, or visit Thunder Hole. You can hike (or drive) up Cadillac Mountain, the highest mountain in Acadia National park, which is one of dozens of mountains to climb. From here you can look down to Bar Harbor and the Porcupine Islands, the Cranberry Islands, and much of Mt. Desert Island

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay at the cottage was fantastic. It was a perfect place. Peaceful, quiet, and the accomadations worked out perfectly for us. We had good weather, so we able to hike and kayak nearly every day. We had such a good time that we are thinking seriously about next year doing it again. Again thanks very much.

Lovely Vacation Home

  • 4 of 5

We all enjoyed our stay. We loved the area and the people in the grocery store and the shops were all so friendly. We also noticed how clean everything is, there is no trash on the roadways. The home is located close enough to Southwest Harbor to make shopping easy but away from everything that made it a quiet relaxing retreat.

Love at first sight

  • 5 of 5

Immediately fell in love with this cottage. Location, location, location! This beautiful house was situated in just the area right for us and what we were looking for. Saw a lot of the area during our stay, all very nice, but I couldn't imagine having stayed anywhere else. What a relaxing retreat to come back to after our hikes; to sit on the porch, play in the yard, to hang out on the dock...we felt simply at peace.

A fully stocked kitchen, comfy beds, linens and towels, and a provided for laundry room, fans, and so much more-so convenient to have and not have brought from home-we didn't have another inch of space in the car if we had needed to bring any of the things already provided...thank you!

Excellent communication with Ben, who provided local info and suggestions, in paper and email form, both useful and appreciated, and who responded promptly to all questions we had.

Enjoyed so many hikes in Acadia, shops, restaurants, and whale watching in Bar Harbor, a trip to Bass Harbor, and Beal's in Southwest Harbor. My highlights: sunrise on Cadillac Mountain, a very early, quiet morning on Sand Beach, sitting on the rocks along Ocean Path while taking in the beautiful views, watching the stars while sitting on the dock at the cottage, fulfilling my dream of roadside lobster at Charlotte's, having my first popover at Jordan's Pond House, and discovering Maine blueberries at Jordan's Restaurant and Cottage Street Bakery and Restaurant!

This cottage and its location and all of the surrounding areas was all I'd dream my Maine vacation would be; my first and certainly not my last. Thank you Ben and the Foote family!

Caleb's Cottage is Picture Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We recently completed a week-long stay at Caleb's Cottage. The cottage, the setting, the location were all perfect. The house was very well laid out, we had 3 adults and 2 kids. There was easily room for another 2-3 adults. The cottage was very well stocked with all the necessities. We took full advantage of the deep water dock and had kayaks delivered to the cottage for use during the week. The sunsets over the cove and distant mountains were simply spectacular. The location was very convenient to SW Harbor shops, restaurants and grocery store. You're also located right next to Acadia NP (Flying Mountain). The setting, while close to SW Harbor, is private and quiet. The kids loved riding their bikes along Connor Pt and playing in the rocks during low tide. We also had some very competitive wiffle ball games in the side yard. While the cottage is great, we spent most of our time on the dock and expansive front porch. You will not go wrong by considering Calab's cottage for your visit to Acadia. Thanks, Reagan Family

Excellent location, beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Caleb's cottage. The house is larger than the pictures convey. The house was well-stocked with all that we needed to relax and enjoy the area. Can't beat the location -- quiet, close to the water, hiking, and Southwest Harbor.

Excellent Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was very well stocked- all the comforts of home. Southwest Harbor is a great, quiet area, but with 5-6 very good reasonably priced restaurants and excellent local seafood, including Beal's Lobster Pier- a must for lobster lovers. Practically walk to Flying Mountain in Acadia National Park, and a great hike! Also great lake swimming at Echo Lake (in Acadia). Only negatives- Bar Harbor is a solid 25 minute drive each way (this was July, with some traffic), the house had a great cabin type feel, lots of knotty pine, but it did creak quite a bit when you walked around. Otherwise, a million dollar view of the cove and a great experience!

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Bar Harbor does get quite crowded in the Summer which is one reason why many people prefer to stay on the "Quietside" to get away from the crowds. As far as the creaks, we are aware of some of the floor boards in the upstairs hall that are the cause and will be looking to fix it this off season. Thanks again for choosing Caleb's Cottage!

Perfect Vacation Destination!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect vacation destination. The cabin is so inviting - with all the comforts of home. Everything is beautifully maintained, and clearly loved by the owners family. The location on the "quiet side" of the island turned out to be a wonderful decision. Southwest Harbor is lovely, and returning to this cabin after a busy day hiking is ideal.

The view is spectacular, and we absolutely loved the dock and the unique setting on the point looking out to the harbor. We enjoyed all of the restaurants in SW Harbor, including the terrific bakery. The local drug store, bank and very nice grocery store are all within a short drive. Two or three outstanding hikes are within walking distance. Our thanks to the Foote family for sharing your cabin, and history. We will definitely return next summer!
