Comfort and class in relative seclusion on your own beach

  • 5 of 5

If you're the kind of vacationer who prefers a choose-your-own-adventure style of travel while still enjoying a comfortable setting, this property may be what you're looking for. There are not too many better properties we could find in the area. I highly recommend it, but for one thing which I'll speak to:

A beautiful house on the best beach in the area. If we saw 5 people on the beach all day we were surprised. Evenings on the balcony or patio were quiet and peaceful.

A ton of little details and care were taken for the property, which really make the place feel like home for your time there.

The on-site staff are there when you need something, but will leave you to yourself when you don't.

Things to note: Because of the far-removed nature of this property, and location in an eco-reserve, conservation of resources is necessary. That mostly means watch how much water you use. No AC, but it is not needed with the sea-breeze blowing through.

You'll need your own car, and I recommend an SUV for comfort. Groceries in town are your best bet for supplies (buy lots of bottled water), we chose to grab what we needed on the way in and again while out on tours. Beyond that, definitely check out the amazing dining options in the Tulum hotel zone or beyond.

Location is a relatively safe area for travel, but common sense and awareness should prevail when on vacation ... especially so far out of the way.

There are critters all around ... not to be alarming, just aware. Giant iguanas or monitors are the most obvious (and of course, mosquitoes and little pests), but we saw a tarantula the size of a large hand and a 7-8 foot snake crossing the road one night. I'm sure larger unseen critters lurk in the jungle at night. I don't consider any of the above as a negative, but you should go in with eyes open. Beautiful hooded orioles sang outside our windows every morning!

The only negative ... and it is hard to call it a negative when we had such an amazing vacation property ... would be the beds. Still a 5 star rating, and my wife and I would definitely like to return. Just note the beds pictured above are doubles, and for 2 adults it is a little cramped for my tastes. My wife and I traveled alone and ended up sleeping in separate rooms after the first night. We're not big people! If we were to return I'd be more interested if the beds were upsized to queen, there should be space in the rooms. ... Small nitpicky thing in an otherwise fabulous getaway!

Memories of a dream house!

  • 5 of 5

Although we're back home, I still see us walking miles along the beach, watching the sunset from the front deck, snuggling with a book on the oceanfront back deck, observing the stars from the bedroom balcony or swimming in the waves. The house lies on a spit of land with water on both sides. It's a drive to the grocery, but much quieter than places closer to town. Do shop in actual downtown Tulum for good values. Do snorkel in the cenote along the path by the gate to Si'an Ka'an. Don't drive to Punto Allen; the roads are atrocious and there's nothing there.

Wonderful location, great house, helpful staff

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week, two couples and five kids, ages ranging from 12 years to 14 months.

House is in great condition and Mirly and Santiago are always eager to help. Pool was really enjoyable.

Location is just fantastic, sea front in one of the few places in the Riviera Maya where the sea is met by a beatiful rock formation. Quick walk to Yal Ku lagoon, a great snorkling site.

Nice restaurants in the area, some of them walking distance.

We will definetely go back.

The best holiday you could imagine

  • 5 of 5

We have just had the best holiday of our lives at Casa Houston. The house is more spacious and attractive even in real life than it already appears in the photos. Plenty of room to sleep peacefully (listening to the surf, cooled by the fans and the sea breezes), to cook (though the next door housekeeper Gloria makes absolutely delicious meals for you on request), and to lounge around outside and down the steps on the beautiful white sandy beach. You can look in both directions all along the beach as far as the eye can see and day after day spot almost no one else there. The caretakers for the property are lovely people who rake the sand, clean the house, and tend to all the facilities. The local area has many great restaurants, especially in Tulum town. And the manager's brother Hugo Estrada (website yourgreenguide) offers wonderful adventurous tours of the sea (snorkelling, Dolphins, turtles) and the lagoons (crocodiles, monkeys, Mayan ruins, mangroves). And so much enthusiastic knowledge of the wildlife. We very much hope to go back. It is the real deal for family adventure. Thank you to the Casa Houston team!

Idyllic Caribbean Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Thank you so much for sharing your idyllic Caribbean retreat - your beautiful home, enviable location, expansive views, and hard-working staff made for a memorable and relaxing vacation. We won't soon forget the Magnificent Frigate Birds and Brown Pelicans overhead, the driveway iguanas, nightly serenade of the house geckos, the glorious outdoor shower or the consistently refreshing breezes. Especially memorable was witnessing how a mother sea turtle could so easily up-end the beach furniture when it came time to lay her eggs on this - her natal - beach. A wonderful family getaway and special place indeed. May it remain forever wild - and may we humans find a better way to dispose of and recycle plastic so that it doesn't all end up in our oceans, wash up on the world's most far-flung shores and threaten wildlife everywhere!

Outstanding!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to this part of Mexico. Casa Houston was the best choice ever. The house is perfect- everything and more than we expected. I loved being able to order groceries ahead of time. The staff - from helping with our reservations, to cooking for us - was the best. We went fishing, caught a barracuda and had it cleaned by Gino. We grilled it for supper. There is plenty of room inside and out so you are not on top of each other. I plan on coming back. We had a 4 wheel drive and we needed it going to punta Allen . Thx you casa Houston for a perfect vacation house.
