Our 2 BR condo at White Sands Village is right across from White Sands Beach in Kailua Kona. The condo is quiet, restful and only a short walk down the driveway to one of the best swimming and boogie boarding beaches on the Big Island. It's close to great snorkeling, surfing and paddle boarding, and near lovely restaurants directly on the water, with full shopping facilities a couple of miles north or south of the condo.
Magic Sands Beach, as White Sands Beach is usually called, is truly awesome. We were literally swimming next to huge sea turtles the last time we were there. The boogie boarding is great and if you like to surf, there are good spots nearby. Magic Sands Beach has full facilities - a life guard, toilets, outdoor showers, and even a beach volley ball net.
If you like to snorkel, Kahaluu Beach is mile down the road and great for that. There are life guards there too, and an offshore reef that smooths the waves and makes is safer for young ones to use the beach. Several medium sized turtles are usually found here, near shore in shallow water. The beach is rocky near shore so bring reef shoes to make it easy to walk out where the turtles like to hang out. Another great beach for the young visitors is the Kamakahonu, or King Kam Beach in downtown Kailua Kona, next to the Kailua pier. This popular beach has such gentle wave action it's known as the “Kids' Beach'. The King Kam beach is a great spot for families with small children to enjoy the ocean.
The condo complex pool is salt water, but not heavily so, so it is wonderful to swim in. There is a nice hot tub too, right next to the pool. The complex also has tennis courts if you like to play, as well as a pool table near the office and a lending library.
There are brand new, really comfortable twin beds in the second bedroom. There is a new 32” LCD TV with high def cable and a DVR so you can record favorite shows. There is high speed internet and free wireless. There’s also covered parking and an elevator.
We cook a lot, so the kitchen is well equipped. The lanai is huge and we love to sit out there and read or watch the birds and the ocean.
The condo has recently been upgraded. We installed a new Bosch dishwasher, upgraded the air conditioning (although you don’t need it that much) and put in a new garbage disposal and hot water tank.

This condo was exactly as advertised. Plenty of room, great kitchen which was very well stocked, great location and clean. Carol was wonderful to work with and had thought of everything to make our stay perfect. The restaurants and activities that she recommended were great. The beach across the street and the ones very close were wonderful also. The condo was also stocked with snorkeling gear and other activity equipment. Thanks!
We stayed in Carol Walker's condominium for 12 days in early March. Although the condominium is not new, it is extremely well maintained and decorated beautifully. The kitchen had all the dishes, pots and pans, and utensils you could possibly need. We also made use of the pool. The furniture and beds were comfortable and the area very quiet. We used it as a home base as we explored the island. We would definitely recommend this condo to others.
We rented a unit at the White Sands Village from Carol Walker for a stay from October 16th to November 13th. Every thing was just as the description on VRBO.stated.
The rooms were clean and well furnished, and we made good use of the well equipped kitchen There was a problem with the refrigerator that was promptly resolved
There was all kinds of equipment for our use, including snorkel gear, wave boards, noodles, ice chests, and beach chairs
The pool area was well used almost every day and we had some very pleasant barbecue dinners right by the pool. We went to White Sands beach most days, and snorkeling at a bay about 1/2 mile south.
Our daughter was with us the entire stay to act as caregiver for my blind wife, and she really enjoyed the pool.
Our grandson and his wife visited for a week and we enjoyed our time with them also.
The unit was in the rear of the complex, so we didn't experience any road or beach noise.
There was a notebook in the room that Carol and Harry put together with some dining recommendations. We took advantage of some of them and they were as advertised. We have a custom that on our last night in Hawaii we splurge on an upscale dinner. This time we opted for Hugos, the first restaurant going north towards town. That was a good choice, reserve a water view table for about 30 minutes before sunset for a fantastic Hawaiian sunset.
Very much enjoyed our stay. Property is very comfortable and clean. Great location. Kona is great and White Sands beach was perfect for our 11 and 13 year old.
We stayed here 15 nights with our kids who are 13 & 15. We LOVED the location. Magic Sands Beach across Alii Drive was so perfect to have just a short walking distance from the condo. It was the first and last place we went most days before any other daily excursions. Great for boogie and body surfing. For strong swimmers there's some cool snorkeling outside the beach area. The condo is only a few miles from the town of Kailua-Kona and many restaurants, grocery stores, department stores, sporting goods stores and best of all farmers markets. There is a great bus/trolley service with a stop right in front of the condo complex but it runs about every two hours so you really have to plan around it. Having a car was important to us.
The condo itself was very clean, well equipped and spacious. There are plenty of towels, boogie boards, snorkeling equipment and various other items that you may not care to pack. The lanai was so nice. Never completely in the glaring sun and has a ceiling fan so always a comfortable place to sit. It's huge so room to put out beach gear and still have plenty of room to dine and sit. My son slept out on the linai every night and loved it! When I first made the reservation i was a little concerned the condo was in the back building of this complex - away from the pool and farther walk to the beach. However, after staying there, i wouldn't have wanted to be in the other buildings. This condo was so quiet and really - the walk is not far at all. The owners were very responsive either by phone or email.
Highly recommend this condo for your trip to the Big Island!
My wife and I had a very enjoyable time. This condo is in a rather quiet setting away from the road. The pictures tell the story, nicely furnished and very well equipped.
We had another couple stay with us for a week, we had plenty of room.
It's only about a mile to one of the best snorkeling beaches on the island. There is regular bus service to town and markets, but a car expands your options.
It is a hike to the pool and BBQ, but then you don't have the noise associated with those areas either.
When we return to the Big Island, we would try to rebook this condo.
