GREETINGS FROM BRUCE AND ZOE!! We built our dream home in 1997, moving out of South Florida to raise our two children in the mountains of Western North Carolina...we never looked back and our children have loved it here! Now that our son is in college and our daughter is on her way, it is time to for us to move off the mountain and share our home with those who can enjoy all that the mountains have to offer!
The Owner purchased this estate in 1997
We booked this house for a family reunion with extended family from from out of town. They LOVED the mountain views and the privacy of being in top of the mountain! :-) It was close to everything we wanted to do and plenty spacious enough for us. Thank you SO much for opening up your home for renting and for helping to make our reunion so fun! We will definitely be back! The sweet gift basket we found upon arrival was wonderful as well! Thank you!
My friends and I have talked about going camping or on a cruise for months. Well some didn't want to rough it by camping and others didn't want to go on a cruise. Not wanting to abandon the dream of vacationing together I began to look at rental homes in the mountains of GA (as most of us are in the Atlanta area). I found some lovely homes in the mountains of GA but my curiosity led me to also look in the Asheville, NC. Boy am I glad I did. When I did a google search for cabins or homes in Asheville, Mountaintop Escape came up. I fell in love with the pictures and shared them with my crew. The short version of this story is we just spent the most magical 4 days/3 nights with each other in this lovely home. From the moment we arrived it was a little slice of heaven. We were greeted by Cosby, the friendliest dog that came to visit us daily in addition to guiding our vehicles up the hill and back as if it was his pleasure and duty to do so. The home itself exceeded all of our expectations with the amenities, the size of the rooms, and the view. We had several cooks on the trip and much to our delight the kitchen was stocked with virtually every utensil that we could possibly need. The home, it seems, was designed for total comfort and relaxation. We also enjoyed the local fare of restaurants, Harrah's Casino, and the Biltmore Estate. The only hiccup that we had on the trip was that the heater on the top level went out which made for some chilly nights for a few of our group. We know in life the unexpected can happen so we pushed past this to still enjoy one of the best vacations that we've had in a while. I would recommend this property to anyone and in fact I'm hoping to go back with my family one day. Thanks Bruce and Zoe Berger for opening your home to guests so that they can enjoy the magic you've created. Thanks Jimmy for coming by to check on the heat system and accommodating our questions and requests. I hope to visit Mountaintop Escape again in the future. Derrick
This amazing property was everything it promised to be and MORE!! The views were simply incredible and the home was lovely! Our family of 10 enjoyed a full week of R&R at Mountain Top Escape - taking in many of the sights Asheville has to offer. There was ample space for our 9 adult children and one grandchild, offering lots of privacy when you needed it - and then wonderful areas for gathering the family together for meals, cards and endless fun! We took full advantage of all the house had to offer, but nothing compares to the vistas from the back decks. Other reviews noted the road was too steep and narrow. We found it to be well maintained and quite passable for two cars, and well worth the trip to the top. We also loved having the neighborhood dog pay us frequent visits - so friendly and cute. Thanks so much for a fabulous week away from the heat and humidity of our Florida summers - this place must be even more spectacular in the fall, if that's even possible!!
We rented this property for a long weekend for our wedding. It fit our vision of having a small, intimate outdoor mountaintop ceremony with just our families and nature extremely well. It was important to us for everyone in attendance to be fully comfortable by having enough space - and it did; we had 12 adults and 6 small children and there was no sense of crowdedness. With several small children, it was also important for us to have a place that had a mostly flat yard for them to play as many mountain view homes are built into the sides of mountains with very limited (and sometimes dangerous) yards; this one is mostly flat all around the house.
For those of you wanting a log cabin feel, this isn't for you. But for those who want a well-appointed and designed interior, this is for you - it feels like home. Road access is good for guests and vendors. We were easily entertained staying at the property all weekend, but it is an easy drive in to amazing Asheville for those who care to venture out. Great views and great times with great people.
My family, friends, fiance and I gathered at this lovely home for a small wedding and party... and we honestly couldn't have asked for a more perfect place. The house was well appointed, comfortable, spacious and homey. And those views! Peaceful and beautiful, and all we had hoped for. Plus, Zoe and Jimmy are fantastic to work with. My only suggestions would be to provide more places to hang towels in the bathrooms (we took to hanging them over doors, not the best solution) and actual bars of soap instead of the fancy bits we had (no one thought to bring soap with them, so we had to go back down the mountain). Plus, the kitchen faucet is loose. I only mention those things because I feel certain Zoe would want to know, because she is running a truly wonderful vacation getaway. Thank you, thank you! Your home is now part of the memories of our happiest day!
Six of us that are friends since childhood stayed at the Mountaintop Estate for our annual reunion. We were all turning 50 this year. I have rented at least 10 places through VRBO, Homeaway, Airbnb etc. and this has to be the nicest place I have rented. From the fully stocked kitchen with many extras like spices, oils, and all the general staples that you would have in your own kitchen to the immaculate Jacuzzi with individual chlorine bags to put in after each use, this house had all of the conveniences. The view from both the deck and the Jacuzzi below was beautiful. The owners were very responsive and nice to deal with. Asheville is a great city with amazing restaurants (try Curate for dinner and Salsa's for lunch) and plenty to do nearby. We whitewater rafted on the Pigeon river (Nantahala Outdoor Center is great for that), hiked in Pisgah, and even found a nearby school field to have a Frisbee catch. The only caveat is the climb up the mountain is steep so you need a good transmission and 4 wheel drive in the winter.
15 minutes to Asheville Airport.
