This house has a screened-in porch, 57 ft. long, looking out over the marshes and a tidal creek with a view of Sapelo Island in the distance. Adjacent to the porch is a 16X18 ft. deck. Sit in our Hot Springs hot tub at night on that deck under a canopy of brilliant stars, undiminished by civilization's lights. There are five sets of french doors that open onto the porch on the southeast side. Open the front door and the french doors, and a gentle breeze blows through the whole house. Yet the whole house is quite private. Our house is adjacent, but away from your viewscape. No other neighbors are visible.
The kitchen overlooks the great room, with a view of the marsh through three sets of French doors. The master bedroom suite is on one side of the house, with the other two bedrooms on the other side. Two bedrooms, with King size beds and high-thread-count linens have French doors that open up to the porch. Or sleep on the bed on the porch, if you like. An office and den and the dining room is on the northwest. They overlook an almost private lagoon, that you can fish in and is full of wildlife and exotic birds, which include wood storks, black-crowned night -herons, white ibis', great egrets and snowy egrets, little blue herons, tri-colored herons, green herons, hooded mergansers and pileated woodpeckers. Porpoises will occasionally forage in the tidal creek right next to the house. The third bedroom, with a queen bed, views the lagoon and a corner of the marsh. We also have an office (with a futon) that faces the lagoon. If you just want to hang out, we have a flat screen HDTV, Blu Ray player, Netflix instant stream movies, plus a wonderful sound system.
Two sit-on-top double kayaks and one canoe are on-site, making it easy to get on the tidal creek right from our property. We also have eight bikes (five fat tire adult and three youth of various sizes). If you bring your own, we recommend fat tire bikes if you plan on riding on any of the many sandy roads. However there are many good rides for skinny tire bikes. For motor boats, there is a public launch for a fee (back-in trailer for free) a few miles away. Take your own boat out to Sapelo Island (within sight of the house) and its beautiful beaches, or take the $2 ferry from it's launch a mile away. Drive 25, min. to the Harris Neck Wildlife Reserve and see the finest bird rookeries on the Georgia Coast and probably the whole southeast Atlantic Coast.
Please note that we offer a 10% discount for returning guests.

Susan until 09/09 was director of Canopy Studio, an aerial arts teaching and performing center in Athens, GA. Don built Canopy Studio and did the rigging and technical work there. He now makes carbon fiber dance trapezes and sells them all over the world. Susan still teaches some workshops and master classes around the country, but mostly she teaches occasional workshop/retreats to aerialists that come from around the country to the aerial dance studio that Don built next to Marshbreeze (which opended April, '13).
They met in New York City (where Susan taught and performed and Don was a commercial photographer) before moving to the SF bay area for 9 years, then to Athens for 10 years. Now they are full time in Darien.
The Owner purchased this house in 2006
We decided that we love the marsh more than the beaches. There is so much wildlife just off our deck. It never gets dull. One minute it is tranquil with a golden glow sunset. Then, other times we are treated with a symphony of thunder and lightning. We like the proximity to Savannah as well as the civilized Jacksonville airport.
Fabulous for bird watchers.
We loved your house and the spectacular surroundings. We took the boats our
in the lagoon and enjoyed your bikes, as well. The hot tub is a great addition.
We have stayed in VRBO properties for many years in many locations, and I can say this stay has been my favorite. The owners have created a wonderful vacation experience for their guests.
The house is both attractive and comfortable. It is beautifully decorated as well. The kitchen was fully stocked with most tools a cook could wish for. We made our Thanksgiving dinner comfortably. But hands down the house’s best feature is the wide open view of the low country. The screened-in back porch overlooking the marsh is comfortable for sitting and dining with a view. The deck is great observation spot as well. In the cool evenings, the gas fireplace in the living room was also a welcome feature.
The bikes included with the property are a great way of exploring this beautiful corner of Georgia. Kayaks also come with the property. The guestbook is extremely well thought-out and comprehensive. It provides ample information on the features and the area and is written with humor.
This is a property to which I would love to return.
Marshbreeze is an amazing place. I have stayed in this area before, but this trip was absolutely fantastic. The marsh is gorgeous and changes with every light. Watching the sunrise over it and listening to the wildlife was truly relaxing. We kayaked each day, and saw many birds, but never that elusive porpoise :) Bikes were also provided, which made it easy to explore the nearby areas. Great access to Sapolo, but also an easy trip to Jekkyl and other areas.
Don and Susan's care for this house really shows. Plus, they are really cool people (as are their very friendly neighbors!) The house is very well equipped, clean as a whistle, and has all of the amenities that you would need for a really great, gourmet relaxed trip. The screened porch is a true treat. And, I am pretty sure that the stars are even clearer and larger when viewed from the hot tub. At least I thought so.
Thanks again, and hope to return soon.
We just returned from our visit to this lovely and well-equipped home. It was very comfortable. The weather was warm during the day--allowing us to enjoy the large screened in porch, but cool in the evening so we could enjoy the fireplace. Thank you for the opportunity to stay in your marsh home!
We spent a wonderful week at Marshbreeze. We fell in love with the area, the house, and the welcoming neighbors. We spent a lot of time on the spacious screened in porch enjoying the changes taking places in the marsh right outside the door.
We slept with the French doors open. Peaceful. Went kayaking with our new friend Mary. Great time.
We loved seeing all the birds in the area and spent a beautiful day on Sapelo Island. Our favorite place to eat was Skipper's Fish Camp. Delicious food and our dogs were welcome on the deck. The sweet waitress even brought a bowl of water for our dogs.
Such a great place! Thank you For a wonderful week!
We live all over the country and vacation together every year. This time we chose your home. It was just right for us. Beautiful scenery-sitting on the porch in the morning just divine. We loved seeing the flock of wood storks. Don was gracious and very helpful. It was so quiet-perfect for us. We spent two days in Savannah and discovered St. Simons Island, Jekyl Island and ferried to Sapelo. What fun! Thank you so much for making our stay memorable. Our youngest is 73-very easy place for all of us! Best to both of you.
We had a great time, it was so great to have all the amenities you would not find in a hotel. I especially liked the very thick cutting board as we cooked alot! Have been looking for one ever since! We never kept track of the tides which if you are interested in kayaking you should do or you may miss your window for going out on the water. We never did go but honestly never cared. We loved sitting on the porch and using the binoculars to see all the wildlife. Don the owner was very accommodating and helped with whatever we needed. We took walks and loved looking in the ponds for the baby alligators although I was a little too scared to let our dogs in. It was fun to see the baby crabs all the time and having the access to the porch from the master bedroom was very cool and gave you some privacy too. The local seafood shrimp was very yummy and we also ate in town once which was good for the money. It's not a big town but we were looking to get away so it's what we expected. I do wish I had a drink at the wine bar in town behind the antique shop and wish I had went. We did head down to the landing where you can take a boat in. If we had a boat, that would have been a nice place to take it and it was virtually quiet with no people there. All in all we'd go again and after the first two days it took to wind down, the rest was very nice and felt like we truly had a vacation. Thanks Don and Susan for a great time!
