|Minimum Stay||4 - 7 nights|
This pristine condition five-bedroom home has constant sea breezes and ocean views in every direction. In addition to a spacious living room, 800' screened-in porch, big sun deck, and 3 bathrooms, there is a huge game/TV room and two other cozy TV and reading areas in different parts of the house.
The lower level has the big game/TV room with a multi-game table (air hockey, mini pool, etc), a full-size ping-pong table, TV, DVD player, and lots of board games. Additionally there is a large bedroom with two twin beds that can sleep four children or be pushed together for a king. This bedroom has a full en-suite bathroom.
The main floor has a gorgeous corner living/dining room with an open, 'chef's dream of a kitchen' that is fully stocked and has 4 bar stools. There are five French doors leading out to the huge screened porch. The indoor dining table seats 8 and the outdoor dining area can seat 12 plus.
Off the screened porch is a vast sundeck with a full-size gas grill and breathtaking views. Also on the second floor is a master-size bedroom with king bed, washer/dryer closet, and a full bathroom off the hall.
The top floor has three bedrooms all with fabulous ocean views. (One queen, one king, and the third with two double beds.) The top floor also has a full bathroom, a computer desk, WIFI, and sitting area with a small TV and VHS player.
'Bahama Mama' is located in a charming community of only seven other stone houses. Wykee Estates was built in the 1940's for the first Premier of the Bahamas as a holiday retreat for his family and staff. Our house is the only home built more recently. It was totally renovated 5 years ago and redecorated just this year.
Wykee Estates has a gorgeous saline pool (very low chlorine) that we share with the other residents, but surprisingly is rarely used. The beach is magical!!
You will probably be the only people not only at the pool but on the gorgeous pink sand Atlantic beach as well. Both the pool and beach are just a few minute walk from the house or a 30-second golf cart ride (two golf carts come with the house).
We are in a great location just five minutes by car from the town of Governor's Harbour and eight minutes from the GHB airport. You can also walk five minutes or take the golf cart down the beach to the Sky Beach Club with its excellent restaurant, spectacular views and infinity pool with swim-up cocktail bar.
We have beautiful landscaping, mature fruit trees, hammocks, swings and tether ball.
The island is totally kicked back and relaxed. Leave your high heels at home along with your makeup... I don't even wear shoes to dinner. The adults can eat at several great beachfront restaurants while the kids run on the beach and play just steps away from your table.
The town of Governors Harbour has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. where you can buy fresh fish and lobster most afternoons from the local fishermen. Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, a dive shop, and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry in Governors Harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.
The residents of Eleuthera are so warm and friendly and the island is very safe.
We had a great time on Eleuthera - our 3rd time there (although the first for our friends who traveled with us). When we arrived at the house, it was very clean, well organized and stocked with basic supplies. The golf cart was charged and the house aired out. Throughout our stay, we were impressed with the abundance of supplies and equipment - for cooking, going to the beach, and relaxing/playing around the house. We enjoyed several beaches: twin coves, lighthouse, and coco de mama beaches. The beach in front of the house (which is beautiful) was not the first choice because we have little kids and we sought shallow, calm shores. However, we found great snorkeling at the far right end of our beach, as well as the other beaches mentioned.
The ladies and kids liked the Sky Beach Club pool and bar - I think the pool was fun and the bar offered a resort feel. It was nice to have it close by. My wife and I went there for dinner one night and found it nice and plain like most Eleutheran restaurants we've visited. Our friends went to Rainbow Inn and had a similar report. One night we bought some Snappers from the GH docks - they were tasty and affordable. We'll do that more often on future trips there.
Overall, what made the trip was the house (spacious, kid-friendly, screened in, entertaining, internet, outdoor shower, and fully supplied) and the beaches (empty, beautiful, snorkeling, and very close by). Of course, having perfect weather while we were there helps. It's quite possible that we will travel back to Eleuthera next March.
Thanks again - Josh
We had 3 generations sharing this house the youngest were 2 grandsons, one 4 the other 2.
everyone had privacy with the exception of a single issue. We were urged to shower outdoors
for the sake of the septic infrastructure which we were very sensitive to. We wanted to respect the
owner's wishes but found the outdoor shower challenging because it offered no privacy due to its
lack of a door. I would return if a door were installed, other than that great place.
It's taken me too long to post! Our first stay on the island of Eleuthera after many years of visiting Abaco. We were so happy that we choose this house, the location was perfect to be able to tour the north part and south part of the island during our stay - but honestly, our most favorite spot was the beach by the house and making friends with the bartender at Pascals. We had our 12 year old daughter, 18 year old son and his girlfriend (and my husband and I). The house is huge, and we had plenty of room. The golf carts were a huge help, after a day out we got right in them and spent the rest of the day into the evening on the beach (go down the hill, head left and follow the path - you'll find a few little "dirt road" turn offs - those paths lead up a hill, but down the bank is the most amazing beach ever). My son and husband were off shore fishing every night and catching dinner while us girls explored, walked and played in the sand and just enjoyed relaxing. The house has most everything you could need. and the owner was gracious enough to let me buy a soft cooler off her to take fish over to Abaco (which was our 2nd part of the vacation). We only used air conditioning in the bedrooms and we put it on in the late afternoon. We kept the doors open in the living space and only used air downstairs if we were watching TV or playing Jenga (yes, there is board games available too). It's island living and AC can get expensive, so if you don't abuse it and leave it on all day, you can still be comfortable when it counts. Our family had an amazing vacation here. It was a great 1st time to visit and explore the island, we definitely hope to be back to do even more exploring. If so, I'd inquire on this home and it's availability. Thanks to the owner for providing a clean, modern home with pretty much everything you could possibly need. You thought of everything!
This was a great home for our large family of 6 with 4 small children. Grandparents accompanied us as well. The large tables, both inside and outside, were perfect for large family dinners. The house is fully equipped from beach towels & beach gear to spices and most kitchen basics. The decor is nice. The views are amazing from all sides of the home. There are 2 gulf carts to use and next door is Pascal's restaurant with a poolside bar, very convenient.
Bahama Mama was absolutely perfect in every way! We traveled with another family and their 2 boys (along with my husband and daughter) and could not have picked a better house for us to stay! There was definitely the "wow" factor from the minute we pulled up the driveway, to when we walked inside the house. We all adored how the house was decorated and how each room had a different theme. We could tell how many memories have been made at the house with all the photos. Our families enjoyed everything from the game room, to the outdoor kids swing, outdoor private shower, golf carts and all the thoughtful amenities like games and beach toys! We are still dreaming of sleeping with the doors and windows open listening to the ocean waves as well as the daytime lunch/drinks at the pool and beach at Pascal's next door! Everything was perfect!
Thank you Matt and Tara from Eleuthera Vacation Rentals for being so helpful to us prior to our stay as well as when we were there. Linda (the house manager) was great and even called us the morning of our departure to remind us of the time change to make sure we would not miss our flight. We booked Natasha (the cook) for two nights where we put the kids to bed and got to enjoy some delicious adult dinners like a traditional Bahamian meal and unforgettable lobster feast another night. We also booked Sonya for babysitting 2 nights as well and she was great with the kids. I would highly recommend them both! Fish Bone Tours was also a really fun day out on the water for all. Thank you for all your recommendations and the very helpful owner letter as well as information you all sent Matt and Tara.
We are in depression being back which means it was an amazing trip! Thank you for all you did to make it so unforgettable! We hope to come back!
We spent a week at Bahama Mama and it surely was one of the best vacation weeks we've had - after a week in Florida and a couple of days in Orlando, this was the ultimate relax and recreation, and fun and entertainment for the kids... Eleuthera is a beautiful hidden paradise, with magical places like French Leave Beach or Glass Window Bridge and best beaches we've seen - and actually, probably the best one is just steps from Bahama Mama... And when we felt like we needed a bit of civilization, we drove the golf kart for 2 mins and we ended up at Sammy's bar for Sammy's awesome signature Bahama Mama drink :)
It was definitely a great vacation in a beautiful house at a perfect location. Highly recommended and to be repeated...
The house is sited on a hill. There is a commanding view of the Atlantic from the living room and eastside bedrooms upstairs. From the kitchen, porch, deck and upstairs westside bedroom windows you can see straight across the narrow island to the Caribbean. The architect must have been well experienced in designing homes for the tropics. Essentially the whole house opens up to the soft outside air with multiple, wonderful French doors. Upstairs, there are screens. On the main floor, a wraparound screened porch hugely expands the living area, and the screens keep the house insect free. Beyond the the screened porch is a big open deck for sunning or grilling. The house is clean, well kept and, I would guess, quite recently renovated. There are flowering bougainville all the way up the driveway. The neighborhood has a delightful swimming pool in a garden setting, and the Atlantic is great for body surfing. If you need to work there is a crow's nest desk perched at the top of the stairs, and you can look up from your computer to another striking view. At the end of the day be sure to hook the screen doors from the porch to the deck or, in night breeze, they will open and close with a bang. Excellent, unique, well thought-out house -- glad we discovered it.
Rent sea kayaks, sailboats, powerboats. There are six different beaches to explore and snorkel off of, all within 20 minutes. Charter boats can be hired to bonefish and deep sea fish. The world famous Harbour Island is a great day trip (45 minutes away). There is scuba there as well shopping, restaurants, and a famous beach. Lots of great sightseeing on this island.
