Great place, a nice rural location. What a cool space to share with friends. Windy roads so be prepared.
The cabin was much nicer than the pictures can show! I would definitely book this cabin again.
Sure it has some dated furniture, but if I wanted the antiseptic, cold experience of a hotel, I would have stayed in a hotel. As it is, my group had 8 people, and everyone had a bed and memories to last a lifetime. The home is situated in the deep woods with incredible access to trails, lakes , creeks and beautiful winding roads. I even enjoyed the 25 minute drive off the mountain, but I'm a car nut that can't get enough twists and turns. It was tranquil and rustic, with just enough modern conveniences for the few softies on our group to feel right at home. I will be staying here again, for many reasons.
Our family enjoyed being together in this home, however, the roof leaked causing mold, mildew and black webs on the ceiling tiles in the bottom floor. (Our grandchildren have allergies so this was a concern.) This was directly over the beds and when it rained one night, the beds had to be moved and a pan put on the floor to catch where the water dripped. Teflon cookware was scratched and could not be used. Fortunately, there were a few stainless steel pots that could be used. Cabinets and air vents needed a thorough cleaning. I took pictures and sent them to the owner.
She was prompt in returning the cleaning deposit.
We're all used to wide roads with the curves blasted out and the dips filled with tons of rock. This house is reached by a well paved mountain road with lots of curves. Once we drove to it, we knew what to expect, and the 9 of us had 2 wonderful evenings of family time in a well maintained and spacious home, about 30 minutes from Boone, and away from all city noises. Everything worked as it should, and we had everything we needed. On our departure morning, we all took a hike to an old whiskey still, and spent an hour at the community lake inside the property gate.
What a wonderful venue for a weekend retreat! Eight men gathered for three days of wonderful fellowship, eating and traveling around the mountains in western North Carolina. The accommodations were perfect for us.
