About the property

The Homestead is a well loved bungalow in the Sellwood/West Moreland neighborhood in SE Portland. Don't be fooled, this is a big house! Our place is only footsteps to Saburo's Sushi House Restaurant, Moreland Theatre, Laurelwood Public House & Brewery, Westmoreland Nature Park, and Cork Screw Wine Bar. It's is good for couples, business travelers, and families (with kids). Public transportation is very close, too!

This is a well loved 1900's bungalow with old time charm and tasteful modern touches in over 1500 cozy square feet. In the front room, you'll see the gas fireplace perfect for relaxing with a book. The large picture windows allow plenty of afternoon sun, but are easily shaded with the wood-slat blinds. The kitchen has Maytag appliances and handsome granite counter-tops that match the bathroom. The breakfast nook is perfect for reading the paper and enjoying your morning hot local tea or coffee. If you need to get done work done or prefer to stream shows from your phone, there's Wi-fi for your gadgets. Two bedrooms (with queen beds) are on the main floor on either side of the bathroom. While all the double-pane vinyl windows open to catch the breeze, there is air conditioning for those extra hot days. An optional bonus is upstairs with another queen size bed, for an additional fee.

A queen size air mattress can be set up in the corner bedroom, and a pack & play type bed is available for the littles.

Guests are welcome to all areas of the house except for the basement where there is construction as we remodel. That means there may be contractors during regular work week hours M-F 8:30am to 5:30 pm. This also means there is a port-o-potty for our contractors towards the back of the house.

The back yard is completely fenced in with a deck, lovely for enjoying your meal on a warm day. Be careful of the sprinklers in warmer months!

We try to do our part to keep Portland green and beautiful by only using biodegradable detergents/cleaners and earth friendly shampoo, conditioner & soap. Tap water is also delicious; a water filter is available in the fridge for your convenience. We also ask our guests to compost their food waste and recycle their glass, plastics and paper products. The garbage is only picked up citywide every two weeks, while recycling and compost are picked up every Tuesday. Thanks for helping us reduce our carbon footprint!

Parking is available on the driveway along the north side of the house, which can park up to 3 cars comfortably in tandem. Street parking is free.

As of March, contractor will begin mid-month. We'll discuss how this minimally impacts your stay, the remodeling area is not pictured. Due to the remodel, pricing has been adjusted to reflect any potential minor disruptions. We can talk more about the minimal disruptions as we get closer to your stay so you know what to expect. We are avoiding to book stays during days of significant noise. The washer/dryer is unavailable during construction, even to me!

You and your guests will have the house to yourselves but my husband or I can assist with anything!

From mid-March, there will be contractors during the week day with limited access only to the basement via a separate entrance. We can discuss the minimal impacts of this as we get closer to your visit.

The Neighborhood and Other things to note

The Homestead has a high walkability score with the commercial district of West Moreland a few footsteps away. You'll find cafes, restaurants, the post office, shops, the local theater, Zoom Care, banks and QFC within a ten minute's walk. It's also very easy to hop on public transportation with 2 very close bus lines and the max line only 5 blocks east. Biking is a favorite way to travel, as well as cars for hire.

My husband grew up in this house, so when his parents were looking to sell, it was obviously hard to imagine the house being part of someone else's family. We had the opportunity to by the house from them and have enjoyed hosting guests from around the country. We are Portland natives who love sharing the fun, weird and tasty things that make Portland so great.

Wonderful, cozy home - loved it!

The home was wonderful, as was the host, Victoria. She made sure we had a clean, well stocked home, and a comfortable stay. This area is a great place to stay. It is close to everything - walking distance to downtown Sellwood, with it's historic shops, restaurants and library. There is a great park nearby as well as the water.

We hope to come back someday.

Loved it!!

Quaint cottage home a block from Sellwood. Victoria is a wonderful host, answered all my questions, worked with us when our flight was delayed and brought us more towels when we ran out! The house was perfect for our stay and the neighborhood is safe and walkable to all the coffee shops and eaterys of Sellwood. I highly recommend this area, minutes to downtown Portland. An hour to Hood River and Mount Hood. Thank you again Victoria!

Great House - Great Location

Victoria has a cute little house just steps from a lot of restaurants and local shops. She checked on us to make sure we had what we needed which is a nice and thoughtful touch. Really enjoyed our stay but a word to out-of-towners; skip Voodoo donuts, Blue Star was over-hyped, but Pip's is THE donut shop to visit!
