***Cedar Sunrise WATERFRONT Ctg, Free Dock & Boats, Quiet & Pristine***

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,200 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

3 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom (+ outside shower), Large Screened Porch. (Sleeps 6 Max.)

~Cedar Sunrise Cottage ~ ON CEDAR ISLAND is a clean, comfy, waterfront cottage with a beachy vibe in cool blue and white. It truly has all of the comforts of home. There is a fully equipped kitchen, 3 bedrooms, one full bathroom, dining area, and large screened porch. The great room is very open, airy and tranquil with ceramic tile floors throughout.

The sleeping porch (third bedroom) is our favorite. It is fully air conditioned and heated but is also surrounded on three sides by windows/doors so it has a very outdoorsy feel. You can lie in bed and watch the dolphins or pelicans playing in the bay with sea breezes on your face. The other two bedrooms are also very comfy with boat models and hand stitched quilts. The cottage and area are very family friendly.

Cedar Island is a small, quiet, fishing village. It is an island with beautiful views of the water, the Outer Banks, and the abundant wildlife, not to mention the sunrises! Cedar Island is an outdoor person's paradise with boating, fishing, swimming, horseback riding, Outer Banks exploring, and bird watching to name a few. In recent years it has also become a popular kite boarding spot. It is not a 'touristy' location but is very natural and unspoiled with three fourths of the island the National Wildlife Refuge.

There are horse stables and rentals on the island for beach trail rides. There is the National Wildlife Refuge for bird watching. There are numerous neighboring Audobon controlled islands also for birdwatching. And just minutes away by boat (or small ferry) are ocean inlets and the Cape Lookout National Seashore. There is a hunting and fishing guide service on the island, as well as, the outer banks ferries.

There is a great fish market (Quality Seafood) to buy the day's catch for dinner or there is the Driftwood Restaurant where you can watch the ferries come and go. In the evenings relax on the porch or dock and watch the shrimp boats go out for the evening and return again in the morning.

For attractions off the island, you can take the Cedar Island - Ocracoke Ferry to Ocracoke and the Outer Banks. Or you can head off to the historic seaport towns of Beaufort (~40 miles) or New Bern (~55 miles) There are also local ferries that will take you to the Core Banks. ~CEDAR SUNRISE COTTAGE~ is truly our family's paradise and home away from home. Because it is a getaway from the hustle and bustle of urban life we do not have wifi or cable tv (we do have an antenna and dvd player).

About Melissa Hutchinson

We live in New Bern but just fell in love with the nature, peace and serenity of Cedar Island. It is our second home.

Melissa Hutchinson purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Melissa Hutchinson chose Coastal North Carolina

The views of the Sound are amazing especially at sunset. Cedar Island is so unspoiled and beautiful. And the people that live there are so great.

Cute cottage on the water

  • 4 of 5

Had a great week unplugging and just taking in the quiet island life of Cedar Island. With the ferry just a few minutes away, we were able to see other islands if we wished. Went horse back riding on the beach at the resort, hit up Sharkys for football games, and canoed around the island after the hurricane off the coast passed. Bed on the porch was comfortable and provided great views of the sunrises. Everything was good but the grill left a bit to be desired (watch it carefully as the temperature does not work) and lots of mosquitoes.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay. Sorry about the grill. They don't last long in the salty environment so by the end of the summer we have to replace them for the next year.

Amazing water views, very clean cottage, lovely beaches

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, our 2 boys and my parents and our dog, Jackie stayed at this cottage over Labor Day. It was our first time to Cedar Island and we LOVED it. The cottage was very clean and well kept, plenty of cookware and well stocked. The screened in porch was ideal for watching the sunrise. The views are spectacular, all day long. The boys loved using the canoe and kayak that came with the cottage. The life vests were in good shape as well. We fished off the dock and caught a red drum, flounder, a skate, a puffer and other little fish. Our dog enjoyed swimming in the water from the little beach beside the cottage. We rode horses at Cedar Island Stables, and that is a MUST do. The views were awesome and the trail guide was very knowledgeable about the area. We ate at Sharky's one afternoon and it was reasonably priced and the food was good. The inside was totally remodeled with TVs, pool tables and a bar. The motel is being renovated and I am sure will be very nice once completed. The beach area beside the ferry was for the public and had very few people on it, even with it being Labor Day. You can walk forever out in the water only getting to your thighs, the kids loved it there. We took our umbrella and chairs and stayed there most of the day. The only downfall, were the mosquitos, which can't be helped. From sunrise to sunset, they tended to slack off, but if you were outside any at night or early morning, they will eat you alive. Make sure you bring LOTS of OFF, we used the green forest kind with Deet and they still ate us up. Even with that, we will be coming back to the island again and staying here. The fish market ships all their fish out on Fridays, so if you want to get anything from them, don't wait until Saturday or Sunday to get it. We messed up and waited and didn't get to have any fresh fish. Highly recommend this cottage if you want to disconnect from the world and relax!! We loved it!

Beautiful, quiet cottage right on the water!

  • 5 of 5

What more could you ask for than a beautiful, quaint little home on the water. My husband and I had the bedroom also known as the "Sleeping porch" and we woke up to the most beautiful water views and sunlight steaming in. Plus, the Deck/Dock was the perfect place for coffee in the morning and a glass of wine at night.

Will definitely be back!

Absolutely awesome! Great family atmosphere.

  • 5 of 5

It was awesome. We loved the sunrise over the island and easy access to the water. Looking forward to going again this year. I would highly recommend this to anyone that wants to stay in a family atmosphere. If you're looking for amusement parks and things of that nature this isn't the place for you. But if you're looking for a place to spend time with your family go fishing and meet a lot of great folks this is the place for you. It's a beautiful home on the water. You can walk right down the steps into the water from the deck or go out to the sand next to it and put in a kayak or canoe. Or if you'd like it's only a mile or so down the road to the ferry going to Ocracoke and a beach right beside it.
