This log cabin offers access to deep woods wilderness while maintaining the convenience of abutting the Carinthia ski area of Mount Snow. Built in 2013, the cabin is energy efficient, modern, and comfortable yet rustic and simple in design.
The old Somerset rd, now a walking path travels behind the home to the Carinthia base area. The surrounding upland forest has been conserved through the Vermont Land Trust. From this land is access to the Green Mountain National Forest back country. Several small streams emanate from these lands comprising a few of the headwaters to the North Branch of the Deerfield river.
A small pond greets you midway up the 650 foot long driveway. An abundance of amphibians, insects, and birds reside here. A travel corridor for animals from the upland forest to the Tannery Wetlands located across the street makes for interesting wildlife sitings. The Tannery Wetlands consists of approximately 50 acres of preserved land. Here there are a couple of rough walking paths to the North Branch of the Deerfield river where you'll occasionally find brook trout.
The Valley Trail access is located at the end of the driveway on Handle Rd. This trail leads to both the mountain, other walking trails, and to the town of Dover. Mount Snow and the Hermitage/Haystack are located off of the same road as the cabin.
Sound is the first sense alerted when you exit your car. A natural pristine cold water stream rushes down exposed bedrock into a shallow pool. This pool never warms past 50 degrees. In the spring it rages, the summer it calms down, and in the winter it is muted under ice and snow. Brief dips into the water in the summer is exhilarating and rejuvenating.
Partial views of the opposing ridge line are prominent from the wrap around porch. Pets enjoy lounging on the porch too.
The home is well insulated and quite comfortable. It's heating and cooling is provided by a standing column geothermal system. Throughout the house are speakers which connect via wifi to your phone or computer I-tunes. Smart lighting is throughout the home.
The first floor of the home is a walk-out basement. Here there is a small area to remove your boots and coat. The basement has two pull-out couches, a full bathroom, and a television for movie viewing. Television viewing is only available through Apple TV. There is no cable TV.
The second floor of the home is an open concept dining/kitchen/living area. There is a bedroom with queen bed and bathroom off of the great room as well as access to the wraparound porch.
The third floor has two bedrooms, one a kids room with single bed and bunk bed and the other bedroom has a queen bed. There is a loft with a futon and board games as well as a full bathroom.
I hope you have a wonderful stay at this cabin getaway. Enjoy peaceful nights by the outdoor fire pit accompanied by the gentle rush of the nearby waterfalls, while tree frogs and crickets peep throughout the night.
