Beautiful peaceful waterfront retreat
This place is wonderful!
We had a glorious Easter weekend at Robins Nest
The family and the dogs
So quiet and private
We have already booked again for June!
We had a wonderful time!
We loved staying at the house. It was peaceful and restful. Although it was December and quite chilly outside, the view each day was lovely and we had a really great family week relaxing and reading. We went for walks and cooked a lot. There was plenty of space for all 7 of us, 5 adults and 2 kids. The kids loved the bunk bed. Thank you for a tranquil and replenishing stay at Robin’s Nest!
This was our second year in a row staying at Oyster Cove - we love it there! The privacy and beauty are second to none! Penelope is the best owner to work with and she does everything she can to make your vacation perfect! We love the house and the setting and hope to return again!
Exceptional Stay at Robins Nest
For our second year we had an outstanding visit at Robins Nest. We cannot say enough great things about this VRBO from Penelope and her family. Our Labs would give this vacation spot -- all paws up, as they loved swimming and frolicking in the cove. The Robins Nest home is very comfortable and family friendly for a relaxing short or long term visit. Outside you get to choose from canoeing, kayaking, or paddle boarding that are provided by Robins Nest. Plus, you can grill outside and there is a fire pit for roasting marshmallows to make S'mores. Bring your summer reading and relax in the rustic Adirondack Chairs and watch the Blue Herons gracefully fly by your vantage point. Bring your fishing tackle box and catch perch from the dock as we did this past week. Ellen's grocery store is close by and she sells live bait for anglers. If you drive over to Kilmarknock -- don't forget to stock up on gourmet items at Carried Away Cuisine and a must visit is to the NNK Burgers in Irvington Street for awesome burgers and thick milk shakes. We look forward to our next opportunity to visit Robins Nest.
Serene and peaceful
We stayed on the property in the beginning of June. We have already booked it for next, so that should indicate how we feel about it.
The property feels like a lakeside cabin, but it is much more. It is in a wooded area that the owners have kept very natural, instead of cutting down all the trees and planting grass. So the house sits in a lovely wooded area with clear sight lines to the cove and dock. The property has plenty of outside seating, a fire pit and hammock. We did not get a chance to use the fire pit, but used the hammock plenty(AAAH). The dock has two Adirondack chairs, perfect for sunrise and sunset viewing. Watching the wildlife (osprey and heron was also a favorite. The house was perfect for a vacation. It has an open floor plan, kitchen, dining room, living room area. The appliances are top notch, with a great gas grill and killer blender (loved those daiquiris). The master bedroom with en suite bath was great and there were three other bedrooms and and additional bath, so those facilities worked well for our six people.
If you want family time or a romantic getaway, this place is perfect. It is very private, almost secluded, but a 1/2 mile away from a free ferry that gets you to Kilmarnoch and Livingston, where all the shopping, restaurants, and golf courses you need are located. They are small towns, almost villages in nature. That's a 20 to 30 min drive depending on whether ferry is ruining. The ferryman, Dale, is an extra treat, providing a daily joke to lighten the day.
I cannot say enough about property and area. It is incredibly relaxing, yet has the facilities for anything you want to do. It's a great party house. We celebrated our Mom's 95th birthday there, and she now wants to return every year.
We stayed here during Christmas 2016. This was the perfect place to get away from the craziness of the Holiday Season. My family and I spent wonderful quality time in this warm and welcoming home. We took walks, we had fires, sat on the dock and watched the birds fly by. Thank you.
Located on Virginia's Oyster and Wine Trails, our family's four bedroom/two bathroom vacation cottage is surrounded by 500 feet of serenely protected, private waterfront with quick access to the Rappahannock and Corrotoman Rivers, as well as the Chesapeake Bay. Guests have exclusive use of the property’s private 150-foot dock (4-6 ft MLW), as well as standup paddleboards, a canoe and kayaks throughout their stay. Full service Yankee Point Marina is only two minutes away by boat or car. Fish, crab, paddle, swim, hike, sail … or just relax in the hammock and watch the eagles and osprey battle over the catch of the day. Desire a day excursion? You are only about 20 minutes by land, ferry, or water from the golf courses, antique shops, art galleries, trendy boutiques and restaurants of Kilmarnock, and the fine dining of Merroir (Rappahannock River Oyster Company) in Topping, and the Tides Inn and the Hope and Glory in Irvington. Nine nearby regional wineries, including the Dog and Oyster Winery, await adventurous wine aficianados. And, of course, there is always the boating, cycling, hiking trails and beauty of Belle Isle State Park. Add a visit to a few of the country's most historic landmarks in Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown and the possibilities for your Virginia vacation are endless.
