Shoreham is located on the eastern side of the Mornington Peninsula on Western Port in Victoria. It is a coastal village of about 450 houses in a rural setting, with permanent and holiday residents. The Shoreham village precinct lies along Byrnes and Cliff Roads and includes the Shoreham Hall (the old Shoreham school) the tennis club, the fire station, the former general store, the post office, the old post office, six World War I memorials forming an Avenue of Honour and eight residential properties.

Shoreham village was one of the many small villages established on the Mornington Peninsula during the nineteenth century as service centres and which then developed during the twentieth century as holiday resorts.

The earliest settlement of Shoreham centred around the permanent water and sheltered cove where Stony Creek enters Western Port. To the east of the Shoreham village are the more recent housing estates of Point Leo Views and Coryule and to the West lies Flinders.

Golf: regular visitor to Flinders in his early years Peter Thomson honed his skills on this cliff top course in preparation for his assault on the British Open Championship.

'Flinders is one of those unique coastal courses, - not quite links - neither is it woodland or marsh, that perches high on the cliff top, making it a distant cousin of Pebble Beach and a relative of Muirfield. It is in a fine family of golf that is always best played in wind on salt-sprayed turf with a view of the blue sea. Flinders course is friendly yet full of surprises and intrigue. Bring all your clubs because you are going to need them and a good understanding of what Golf is all about.'
