About John Ferguson or Zenia Tata

We are avid travelers, hikers, skiers and scuba divers who are always looking for our next international adventure. After traveling and working in multiple countries on five continents we look forward to coming back again and again to Crested Butte. In our opinion, there is no place--anywhere--that measures up to Crested Butte! We have been visiting CB together for 14 years, multiple times a year and we hope to be able to get our jobs to the point that we can work remotely and live here full time.

When you get here you will immediately see why Crested Butte ranked top 10 on many magazine's best places to live and play in America, why it is also called the 'last great ski town in America' and why the locals--and we too-- simply call it 'paradise'. Come share our home and sample a slice of heaven!

John Ferguson or Zenia Tata purchased this townhome in 2008

Why John Ferguson or Zenia Tata chose Southwestern Colorado

John is from Colorado and the first time he visited CB was when he was 12 years old on a family fishing trip. He remembers looking out the car window and thinking that this was the most beautiful valley he had ever seen when driving to Crested Butte. A few decades later we feel the same way every single time we drive through the valley to come up to our home in Mt. Crested Butte.

Zenia is from India and the minute John brought her to Crested Butte she fell in love with it (and John) and that was 14 years ago! We both continue to be in love with CB (and each other) ever since.

When we decided to buy a home here, we looked at about 50 properties in different parts of Crested Butte and settled on this one for three reasons: (1) it has the BEST view of any other condo on the mountain, and even though we sit perched up high above busier areas, everything is very close by foot or the public shuttle so you don’t always have to use your car (2) The interior was recently completely remodeled with natural stone, upgraded amenities and custom painting, (3) This is not a condo but a real home with an attached garage, laundry room, and two private decks which makes it feel much more like a private residence rather than living in a condo or apartment complex.

What makes this townhome unique

We love the outdoors and we are close to it ALL up here in Mt. Crested Butte. We love the sweeping views from our decks, the countless hummingbirds which visit our feeders in the summer, and sitting in the hot tub during winter snow storms!. We have many local friends and love going to town for dinner, movies, art galleries, plays and music. The historic town of CB is just five minutes away by car or the free shuttle bus which runs every 20 minutes to/from our condo, the base area, and the town of CB. Minutes away by foot, you can take part in all the activities at the base area & ski village, yet live and sleep in a comfortable spot that is quiet and private, since we are perched above the ski village itself. For skiers, we are only a 5 minute stroll to the slopes--much more convenient than many so-called 'ski in, ski out' properties which are actually farther from the slopes and awkward to 'ski' to/from. AND, very important to our skiing guests, we provide a free 6-person ski locker right at the Base Area, a few steps from the lifts, to store the whole family's skis, boots, poles, etc. Don't lug your stuff around--leave everything there so it will be warm and dry for you the next morning!

We have gone out of our way to make our home comfortable for you and we are always looking for ways to improve your rental experience. We want you, your friends and your family to come back again and again and hopefully you will see improvements and changes each time you return.

Call us at anytime with questions about restaurants, skiing, hiking, biking, fishing, golfing, plays, shops, quirky annual events and options for your kids, your pets, your parents, or anything else about Crested Butte. We would love to share our experiences with you and ensure that you have an amazing time in this mountain paradise. We invite your comments, suggestions and hope to see you, your family and friends year after year, in the same or different seasons!

Won't find a better property in the resort areas !

  • 4 of 5

The owners represent their property with full disclosure, honesty and accuracy in description of the amenities within. Short and convenient walk to the ski area, ski locker at the slope cannot be beaten, and so very nice with kids. We found everything very comfortable and clean - a true home away from home. Excellent after-ski relaxation in the onsite hot tub, and a quick response from the property manager to replace a thermostat.

I recommend this property to anyone who wishes to get away, enjoy Crested Butte, and leave all your troubles behind !

My friends and I decided to spend spring break together with our kids this year. This property was perfect for our needs: three bedroom, three bath, spacious living room and well-stocked kitchen made our vacation very enjoyable. The garage is right underneath with the laundry room next to it. What was a big plus for us having small kids, is the locker room at the base. The view from the condo is fantastic. We enjoyed ourselves tremendously!

Thank you John and Zenia for allowing us to stay at your place!

Home away from Home in CB

  • 5 of 5

I have been going to Crested Butte for many years and have to say that this was the best ski vacation ever! This lovely condo met every need we could imagine and then some. For instance, the view from the den and the master bedroom were spectacular. Watching the sun rise in the morning from either balcony was breathtaking especially when we were getting fresh powder. I have to admit I wasn't sure how necessary a heated locker right at the lifts would be and found out - I'm not sure I ever want to go without that advantage again. Not having to lug skis, helmets, boards, and boots - oh, it is heavenly - and they are all dry in the morning - and, no digging out 75 cents to store your gear in a tiny locker. This one was big enough for a gang.

After a long day on the slopes, it's wonderful to be shuttled to the condo door to enjoy an evening in a spacious, welcoming home-away-from home. As I cooked, the boys were able to soak away the aches and pains of the day with neighbors in the hot tub just a few steps from the door.. Everything I needed to cook wonderful meals was available to me - even a crock pot for some nice hot stew. I was let off the hook and taken to "town" in Crested Butte- once - where we spent some money and ate the best pizza ever at the Brick Oven Pizzeria and pub. There were some tasty lunches on the mountain as well at the Avalanche Bar and Grill asl...then back to the locker....then on to the slopes. No time lost!

The bedrooms are spacious and homey with lots of room for everyone and everything.

It's hard to decide what was the best part of staying at John and Zenia's place after skiing, but having a large selection of games made perfect evenings for my grandson and his dad and me.

One of the reasons this was a spectacular Spring-break vacation was the patience of John. I tend to be a worrier and must have emailed him a dozen questions about - everything! John was great! Every time I had a question, he got back to me quickly with plenty of reassurance.

I'm looking forward to next year already having the assurance that a terrific time will be had by all!

Thanks, John and Zenia

Excellent Accommodations

  • 5 of 5

We are a group of 5 adults from New York who came to Crested Butte to ski for one week January 4, 2016. This was our first visit to Crested Butte and will not be our last. We would definitely rent John and Zenia's condo again. A locker is provided for skiis at the base and a few steps from the Red Lady Ski Lift, just a 7 minute walk or a 2-3 minute shuttle bus ride from the condo. Hot tub is 25 steps away from your front door. Everything you read about the condo online is absolutely true, nice size kitchen, 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths and very clean. The view from the master bedroom and lst floor den is outstanding. Transportation to the town of Crested Butte and around the mountain is free and no need to rent a car. We arrived from Denver to Montrose Airport. We had a SUV pick up service from Anthony Specialty Services which was waiting for us at the airport. For a stress free pickup call Anthony.

We have been doing ski trips out west for over 20 years. Both John and Zenia are the best owners I have ever dealth with. Any questions, John will always email or call you back. He provided us with every emergency and non-emergency phone number you would need. If you want a enjoyable and stress free vacation from day one, rent this condo - you will have no problems.

Great summer retreat

  • 5 of 5

Townhouse is in a great location with beautiful views off deck. Owners were very friendly, accommodating, and attentive. As this was a summer vacation for us, it was really nice to have garage access beneath the townhouse to store our bikes. We had a very pleasant stay and will be back next year.

Car: not necessary

We are approximately 35 minutes away from the Gunnison regional airport. You can rent a car in Gunnison or catch a free or paid shuttle to Crested Butte. The ski area is 3 miles from the town of CB, and 2-3 mins from our home. Mountains, rivers, lakes abound. The local golf course was voted the top mountain golf course in the country. Limitless hiking, fishing, biking, walking, scenic drives and other leisure activities. Ask anyone who's visited Crested Butte: It's truly one of the last pristine and authentic mountain towns of the Old West, having wisely eluded the crowds, commercialism and unpleasant influences that characterize some of the larger resorts in Colorado and other western states.. Our home sits high on the hillside directly across from the ski area itself, allowing unobstructed views of the iconic Mt. Crested Butte, the ski slopes, the village below, and the beautiful surrounding mountains and valleys. If you bring or rent a car, you can be anywhere in the CB area in minutes. And, a free shuttle system connecting Mt CB where our home is (and the ski area) to the town of CB conveniently runs every few minutes. The shuttle runs from our townhome to the base area/slopes every few minutes as well. Hop on and you're slope-side or in town in a flash. Or, just walk out our front door and across a bridge that crosses the main road and you're at the lifts in no time! There's and 'Adventure Center' at the base of the ski area for children & teenagers, with a climbing wall, putt-putt golf course, bungee-trampoline jump, day care center and more. The ski lifts take bike riders and their bikes up in the summer. A Frisbee Golf course is also on Mt. CB.

Other Activities: Hiking, mountain biking, wildflowers, fall colors, river rafting, horseback riding, scenic drives, 4-wheel touring, free summer music concerts offered in the Town and in Mt. CB. Crested Butte is truly an all season outdoor paradise. Five valleys open up from the area, providing access to hiking and biking trails, cross country skiing, and limitless rivers & lakes for fishing. The wildflowers in July are breathtaking. CB is also renowned for its golf course and access to some of the best rivers in Colorado for fishing. Want more culture? Come for our numerous summer festivals: The town’s famous 4th of July Parade & fireworks display; Crested Butte Wildflower Festival in July; Bluegrass in Paradise; Crested Butte Wine & Food Festival; a fabulously diverse Arts Festival in August; Food and Wine festival, CB Music and Dance festival; the Fall Film Festival; and top it off with the zany Vinotok celebration in late September, which really does defy explanation! There are many more, too numerous to list.

Golf: Surrounded by majestic mountains, right at the base of Mt. Crested Butte, The Club at Crested Butte features the only golf course in town -- a scenic Robert Trent Jones II, 18 hole designed course that’s rated one of the top golf courses in America and rated the “Best Mountain Golf Course” in Colorado and “one of the finest golf courses in the mountains, if not the entire country,' by Mountain Golf Magazine, This 18-hole Championship Course offers 7,200 yards of superb golf. It has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.6 USGA rating. The course features 4 sets of tees for different skill levels. Ideal setting for your golf instruction and lessons. Tennis and swimming pool on site. Call 970.349.6127. The golf course is about a 10 minute drive from our property.

Ski: We are directly across the street from the ski area. You can see most lifts from our windows. Walk out our front door and stroll down a small connecting road and bridge and you're at the slopes in less time than it takes to fry an egg. Or, take the free shuttle to the ski area which runs every 15 minutes from our building and in a blink of an eye you're there. We have a 6-person ski locker and boot warmer to store all your gear. Talk about convenient! Sixteen lifts shuttle skiers and riders around 1,176 acres of terrain for all abilities and views in all directions. Overcrowding is simply unheard of and well-placed lifts make it one of the most accessible big mountains in Colorado. Crested Butte offers all the amenities you'd expect at a large ski resort in an intimate, relaxed setting. Ski school and rentals are available in the base area with packages to suit all ages and abilities. Over a half-dozen on-mountain restaurants and bars are ready to serve all types, while shoppers can easily spend hours among the dozens of base-village stores. Crested Butte skiing is open from late November through early April. For Cross-Country skiing, go to the Crested Butte Nordic Center:; call: (970) 349-1707. Email or call us for anything you're interested in which may not be listed here--we're here to help make your vacation unforgettable!

Additional information about rental rates

Refundable damage deposit $250
Cleaning Fee $120
Pet Fee $65
Tax Rate 13.5%

We have a one-time $115 cleaning fee. PETS > although we allow pets, we have rules which you agree to when paying & accepting our rental agreement: Pets cannot be left alone in our unit, or, they must be put in a crate which the guest provides, or left in our garage. Moreover, as this is our home, not a motel, a pet obviously must NEVER be on furniture or beds out of respect for us and future guests. A pet fee is mandatory as it ALWAYS takes our cleaners extra time to clean and deordorize after a pet stays in our home so it is acceptable for the next guests. Lastly as it relates to pets, there is a great "doggy daycare" facility in town which is very popular and has gotten great reviews. Many guests use it if they need to leave their dog behind for a few hours. Ask us any questions you may have about your pet & our policy. Thank-you. MINIMUM STAY REQUIREMENT: If your reservation request includes a **weekend** in busier seasons such as July--Aug & Dec 20--Jan 1, we typically have a 4-5 night minimum stay requirement. If we have a last-minute cancellation, or we have no reservation for the weekend in question, then **within 2-3 weeks of your proposed arrival we may make an exception to this minimum-stay requirement, so just ask us. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have!
