Plan for endless outdoor fun. Jocassee is a beautiful lake and has many waterfalls and rivers. If you have a boat, we have a dock that you can tie up to. Jocassee is a kayaking haven, and we provide 2 kayaks for your use in the lake only. Please inquire about keys for them. There are maps available of the lake at Devil's Fork State Park where there is a boat landing. By water, it takes 10 minutes to get from the boat landing to the Martin House. By vehicle, it takes 45 minutes.
There are hiking trails, sliding rocks, waterfalls and much more all close by. For the sportsman, there are warm and cold water fishing opportunities in every direction. The area is known for its lake and river trout fishing. Close by are Cashiers (25 minutes) and Highlands (50 minutes), quaint mountain towns with all types of dining and shopping.
Amazing house on a very quiet bay on a uncrowded mountain lake. This house is well maintained and furnished. The VBRO photos do not convey how amazing the house and site are from the time you pull up on the driveway, and down through the house and across the decks to the water. There is nicely decorated screened porch off the kitchen that was great for eating and relaxing in with a long bench style table, porch swing, couch, and two easy chairs. In early AUG the air and water temperatures at the lake were very comfortable. The drive in from the road was "exciting" but not as bad as some made it sound. There was almost no traffic noise, and very little boat noise for the week we were there. Cell and data service, T-mobile & AT&T were possible in certain locations. The decks and the boat dock were great. Although this house has a lift to the water, the number of stairs from the house to the dock were not a problem. I would come back to this site and recommend it to anyone.
This was our 1st trip to lake Jocassee and it was a great experience. Everything from the pristine lake, mountain views, waterfalls, hidden islands and beached was perfect! If your looking to get away and unplug this is the perfect spot. The accommodations were excellent. The views from the house and front porch were just awesome! We had a great experience and are hoping to go back in the future!!
This is our fourth year to spend a week on Jocassee on a Fisher's Knob property, but our first time in this house. The house is beautiful and had everything that we needed! The view was magnificent. We had storms each afternoon, and the large and beautifully furnished screened-in porch was a great place to be a spectator. After the storm and dinner (prepared in the well equipped kitchen), we were back on the lake for glimpses of waterfalls and water sports. Back at the house, getting our gang through showering was a breeze with an unending supply of hot water thanks to their tankless water heater. Although the owner told us that the house was built in 1984 (before electricity and the current road were available), they have definitely done a terrific job of maintenance and updates. A master suite with bathroom on the main floor and a tram to the lake make this house an option for those with minor to moderate mobility impairments, although there are 6 steps from the base of the tram to the dock. The loft atop a spiral staircase was a lovely nook for my teen to get a good nights rest. It is a bit warm up there, but the fan made her quite comfortable. The home felt much bigger than the stated 3300 sq feet due to the open floor plan and high ceilings.
In addition to the spacious screened in porch, there was a large deck facing the lake. Anyone who enjoys bird watching should bring bird seed as there is a feeder there. We put chopped nuts and bread crumbs on the railing and got a great show of cardinals and other birds who came to feed even with us sitting a few feet away. The dock accommodated our kayaks (although two sit on top kayaks are provided) and motor boat.
We have not yet been disappointed in our time on Jocassee. Wildlife, beautiful scenery, beautiful and refreshing clear, clean water for swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, or just sitting on the dock to enjoy the view all await you in this very happy place for our family! We are considering a fall weekend in this house if it isn't too late as this house also boasts a wood burning stove and fireplace to enjoy on cooler days. I highly recommend this home for a great getaway!!!
The pictures are accurate, but still don't do justice to how beautiful the home and the lake are. I stayed with some good friends for a long weekend, and we had a blast. Even on rainy November days, we kayaked, grilled, and hiked nearby trails. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a first-rate mountain and lake experience.
What a fantastic experience!
My husband and I brought our two kids and three of their friends to this wonderful mountain lake home for a week of fun in and on the water.
The kids (2 teenage girls and 3 7-year-old boys) were delighted by the outdoor activities including swimming, hiking, kayaking and jumping off waterfalls into the crystal clear lake. We brought our own ski boat which made for excitement every day on this 7,800 acre spring fed paradise.
The home is equipped with nearly everything we required for a great family adventure. We brought our own x-box to entertain the younger kids on rainy afternoons and that proved to be a smart idea. We couldn't find a blender so we used their food processor to make smoothies and everyone was happy!
The kids loved the electric trams leading from the parking deck down to the house and from the house to the lake. We did require them to ride with an adult every single time, however, because the operation requires you to turn on the tram then hop on board as it is moving. It does provide a slow, peaceful ride to and from the dock, allowing you to absorb the serene beauty of Lake Jocassee.
The house is on a steep mountain gravel road and we probably should have done a little more research before trying to haul our boat down the road leading to the house! We recommend dropping the boat off at the Jocassee Outdoor Center BEFORE heading up the mountain to the house. The center offers a concierge boat service that makes your travels much more convenient.
We recommend this vacation spot for families, and with sleeping space for 13 or 14 people, it is large enough for a couple of families to vacation together. There are kayaks and paddles provided (& the owners were not even upset with us for accidentally bringing two of their life jackets home with us!) but our kids needed the excitement of a speed boat to fully enjoy the lake. If you don't have one, we would recommend renting one for the week through the concierge service.
All in all, this rental home provides all you need for whatever kind of vacation your family desires!
House is really unique with a beautiful view of the lake, convenient water access with elevators down to water, and of course, a dock in a really nice cove. The screened in porch was also a popular hang out since it overlooks the lake. Decking work and elevators to water are really impressive craftsmanship. Owner was also good to work with. This likely is a best of Jocassee place.
