About Mark Feist

The property owner has lived all over the world. He enjoys people of every color and ethnicity. He settled in Austin 18 years ago and knows the city very well. He has been known to have a glass of wine and share his local knowledge on occasion.

Mark Feist purchased this apartment in 1995

Why Mark Feist chose Austin

This property is in Aldridge Place between the university and Hyde Park. It was Austin's first planned development with many of the homes designated as historic. One of the most notable features is Adams / Hemphill Park that runs through it's center. The history of Adams-Hemphill Park dates to 1912, when Lewis Hancock (1856-1920) donated more than two acres along Hemphill Creek for use as a park. Hancock, who served as mayor of Austin from 1895-1897, was an influential figure at the turn of the twentieth century. Developer of the Austin Country Club and the namesake of Hancock Center, Lewis Hancock donated the land for Hemphill Park when he began selling tracts of land in the Aldridge Place neighborhood in 1912.

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment has been restored to it's original state other than the addition of new carpet, electricity, and plumbing. It has all the original built ins, windows, kitchen and bath tile. This neighborhood enclave is unique in Austin and a pleasure to explore while strolling the park.

Quiet, clean, convenient!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for a great location to visit the UT campus and play Austin tourist with my daughter! Despite the unseasonable heat for June, the apartment was very comfortable with a main living area window unit and a bedroom window unit. The bedroom has a ceiling fan which is a necessity in Texas. The apartment is perfectly located to walk to Central Market for breakfast and lunch items. It was a very easy drive to the campus (we drove bc of the heat, not the distance) as well as to the Austin American Statesman Parking lot to see the Congress Ave bats, Barton Springs, South Congress St, Graffiti Park, etc. The apt is clean, comfortable, very quiet, very safe, has a nice carport to use, and is in a tree filled beautiful historic neighborhood. Thanks Mark for a great Austin getaway location!

A visit back in time

  • 5 of 5

For me this was like staying at Grandma's house but with more electrical outlets and a MUCH more comfortable bed. All I needed for a comfortable stay. The location was convenient to central Austin. Mark was very responsive and friendly. I will gladly stay again.

The house is fine, but the owner hassled us making us uncomfortable.

  • 1 of 5

Be careful making your reservation and you're probably fine but this is my experience - After making the reservation, the owner waited a day to reject my payment and jack up the price above what was listed on the site, by then the other place I had my eye on was unavailable. I also made the reservation for 4 people and a dog and once he re-did the reservation for the higher price, the reservation was changed to only 2 people no pets. Once we were there, we pulled an extra car into the driveway under a tree for 10 minutes during a hail storm and the owner had a cow, meanwhile, the downstairs guests had 15+ people partying under the carport using the only patio table and chairs available.

We were greeted by roaches when we walked in the apartment but otherwise clean. Not super comfy, but suitable for a cheap stay.

Owner's Response: Stephanie…. please go back and review your reservation request - all of our communication is in writing which I will be more than happy to print for you. We NEVER rejected your request and “jacked up the price”. Why would a property owner change your request to fewer guest - then increase the price? That is not only untrue... it is not logical. Your reservation request was for 2 adults - no dog. The day before you arrived you wrote us and said you forgot to let us know you were bringing a dog - and again, you NEVER mentioned bringing another couple. With you arriving the next day, we reluctantly consented to the dog and only charged you for 1/2 of the pet-fee. Besides not charging you the full pet fee, we NEVER charged or even asked for payment from you for the other adult couple that you brought. I guess you thought we did not live and work on the property? The parking, as you now know, is covered parking for 2 cars parked side by side but with only a single car driveway. If you park in the single car driveway, and not pull up into the carport, no one else can use the carport. It wasn’t until the second day of you and your friends blocking the carport from the other guest that we mentioned it to you - that is 48 hours - not “10 minutes”. You stated that there were “15+ people partying under the carport”?? It was a couple with 2 small children and 3 of their family that live here in Austin that were visiting them. I know this, I was at home the entire weekend. We have had well over one hundred guest over the years - you are the first to mention insects - but state the apartment is “clean” in your review. The insects, like most of your statements, I question. Frankly, we are completely confused by your unwarranted, untrue, and spiteful remarks. We now understand from you that your definition of “hassle” is having someone kindly text you the inconsistencies of your reservation, but not charge you for those inconsistencies - and to ask you to “please pull up fully into the carport so others can use it”? After cleaning the apartment after your party - there is no one that is more disappointed than us that the "other reservation we kept you from getting" did not work out for you, and your friends, Memorial Day weekend.

Great location!

  • 4 of 5

The upstairs apartment was everything I needed for a getaway week. The location is perfect; near UT, historic neighborhoods, and restaurants. Foodheads is a great place to walk for breakfast. The kitchen is a little dated but the appliances are newer, otherwise the apartment would have received 5 stars. Highly recommend this apartment for a great place to stay in Austin!

Great location!

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect location as it was close to the major roads and highways. We didn't drive much while we were in town, but rides with Ride Austin we're about $10 average and about 10-20 minutes away from just about everything depending on the time of day and traffic. This is the upstairs unit and there was a lot of natural light. There's a two car carport and parking on the street, and it's in a good neighborhood so no need to worry about the safety of your vehicle. We will defiantly refer this property and stay again.
