About Suzanne Learned

Susie loves good food and will tell you where the best places are to eat and have fun. She can point you in the right direction to visit beautiful gardens. Loves to cook, garden, read, go to Nia classes, and hike, these are some of her favorite things.

Suzanne Learned purchased this cottage in 1970

Why Suzanne Learned chose Port Hadlock-Irondale

This property was in my husband's family for over 100 years. It became a summer home and we knew we would end up here. In a short distance there is a cousin who lives in a log cabin built in 1932, He continues to keep it to look inviting.

What makes this cottage unique

I love that we are close to beach with the mountains near by. We used to be corporate nomads living from San Francisco to New York to Arizona. When I first saw this property all those years ago I felt like it was home. Scenery is so spectacular. And it's the people here that make the difference. People really following their dreams here more than any place I ever lived, nice too.

Perfect getaway, all the personal touches, and comforts you can imagine!

To put it quite simply, it was the most enjoyable stay I have had while using a shared rental service such as VRBO. Susie and Howard have gone out of their way to create a retreat. It is a big package for a small space. The kitchen is well stocked with quality tools, including locally roasted coffee and filtered water. The view was outstanding, with multiple locations outside and in to sit back, listening to the waves and watch the flowers grow. As hosts, they were more than welcoming and willing to share the history of the community. Our first morning there we were greeted by the sunrise through the patio and a specially prepared basket from Susie with hot eggs, fresh bagels, and homemade jam. Everything was clean, new, and yet held a comforting rustic feeling that will have you calling for more when your stay comes to a close.

Owner's Response: Jennifer and Annie, Thank you for the very kind review. Howard and I so enjoyed getting to meet you and so glad we had the opportunity to visit with you a bit. You both were the perfect guests! Everything was left in beautiful order. We really enjoyed talking to you and Jenny and we loved hearing about your work. And Annie we loved knowing about your PT connection. Hope you can come back again. We would love to have you here.

The beautiful cottage and grounds, along with gracious, hosts resulted in a wonderful vacation.

  • 5 of 5

The picturesque cottage is nestled among a garden of gorgeous flowers situated on Port Townsend Bay. Guests enjoy access to a delightful gazebo and sitting area positioned only a few steps from the cottage and overlooking the beach. During our stay, the weather was ideal, enabling a cool afternoon and early evening breezes to waft gently through the gazebo and cottage. We're from Central Texas, and while we enjoyed daytime temperatures in the 70s, our friends and family endured endless 100+ days.

Our hosts, Susie and Howard Learned, provided a delicious continental breakfast the first morning of our stay, and they were happy to recommend restaurants in the Port Hadlock/Chimacum vicinity. Port Townsend is only a 15-minute drive and offers any type and quality of dining. Furthermore, there is an excellent supermarket about five minutes away by car.

We were somewhat familiar with the Port Townsend but enjoyed being close enough to explore that as well as other areas in that portion of the scenic Olympic Peninsula.

A magical place to unplug and unwind!

  • 5 of 5

This is an exceptional cottage, filled with all the comforts of home and surrounded by beautiful gardens. Not to mention it's situated on a bluff above the bay where you can enjoy sunsets or walk along the quiet beach below. We sat for hours each night under the gazebo enjoying some wine and cheese, it was so peaceful! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and meeting the owners Susie and Howard. The cottage was spotless and features tasteful furnishing and luxury linens. Susie's breakfast the first day is a welcome treat. The location is but a short distance for visits to Finnriver Farm & Cidery and also Port Townsend. We will definitely be back!

Everything about Seaclusion cottage is amazing! This place is so cozy, has everything you could need and then some, and really feels incredible private. Susie and Howard and such wonderful hosts....providing you with lots of extras....local coffee, books, fresh flowers in the cottage, wonderful suggestions for local eats and things to do, as well as the most adorable breakfast basket on your first morning. Sitting in the gazebo with our delicious coffee and yummy local breakfast was so wonderful. Reading a book, gazing out over the manicured gardens and all of it's hummingbirds, watching an eagle fly over the beautiful will find an incredible sense of peace. Definitely coming back!
