About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms, includes two Sleeping Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 7)

'The Ranch' as we call it is located 10 km down a very good gravel road from Bridge Lake, British Columbia, (50 km east of 100 Mile House off Highway 24). The Log Cabin is on Eagan Lake and features one of the few private sandy beaches in the area.

The location is very scenic and private. A beautiful sandy beach makes a great swimming and picnic area. The lake shore is very shallow, waist deep for a 100 m or more making it a very safe area for kids to play. There is a large grassy area in front of the cabin suitable for many games.

The cabin has one private bedroom on the main level and sleeping lofts/two semi-private areas up stairs. The loft opens to the living area from upstairs. Shower/bath and toilet is adjacent to the private bedroom. Full daylight basement.

Facing the lake is a large (10 by 30) screened porch which provides a wonderful area for relaxing, reading and nature viewing. The porch also makes for a great place for the kids to 'sleep outside'.

Two boats (12' and 14' feet) with either gas or electric motors are included in the rent along with a sturdy canoe. Take a trip down the lake in the evening when the water is often calm and when many animals are about.

Bald Eagles and Osprey are routine visitors and can be seen soring over the lake. In the evening, loons have come to the shallow beach to get small fish to feed their young. A sturdy safe bridge crosses the Machete Creek where kids can fish for trout and pike minnow. A beaver family has a lodge just below the bridge and they are often be seen in the evening along with the local muskrats. Both whitetail and mule deer along with moose are frequently seen on or around the property. Wolves are in the area and have been heard at night. Nearby ranchers raise cattle as part of their lively hood and use the immediate area outside the fenced yard as 'range land'. On occasion a few cattle will encroach on our property, wanting to feeding on the lush grasses near the lake. They are easily run off and will often stay away for a number of days. Range cattle are very skittish and have never been a threat.

Fishing on Eagan Lake can be quite good. Catches of Kokanee and rainbow trout are sure to please both the fisherman and cook. Both species can be found directly in front of the cabin.

About Dick Strain

My brother, sister and I own the cabin jointly and use it every summer for ourselves and our families. Our father came to this area in 1937 to hunt moose. He fell in love with the people and the area, told his father about it and a few years later they purchased this property. The land has been in the family for over 75 years. Our family owned the large ranch directly up the creek that can be easily seen from the bridge. It was a working cattle ranch where 100 cows were wintered. Their calves were sold each fall at auction. During the summer we took in hay, rode the range checking on the cattle, repaired things as necessary and did all of the chores ranchers had to do to make the place successful. This area has become a large part of each of us and we have passed on our love for it to our spouses/kids/grandkids. When we look out the window or go for walks, everything we see brings back a multitude of memories.

We began renting the cabin in 2006 and the experience has been terrific. We have made many new friends from BC, Alberta and some from the States. The care our renters have shown our property has been superb. Most of our current renters have been with us for a many years, some since the beginning.

Dick Strain purchased this cabin in 1947

Great Location

If you are a fisherman this is the place to stay. The fabulous cabin is right at Eagan Lake and make a great

base camp to use to explore and fish the many lakes you'll find in the area within a short driving distance.

The cabin has everything you'll need to have a great relaxing time. Looking forward to returning next year.

Gem in the Cariboo!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I spent a week at this beautiful cabin. We have teenagers and dogs. I was extremely happy to find a cabin that excepted dogs happily. The pictures are exactly what you get. The cabin was easy to keep clean, and the property outside well maintained. My kids and fur kids had an awesome time. Went for a canoe ride around the lake and a couple walks and also just chilled on the sandy beach. My dogs spent hours and hours swimming, I could enjoy my morning coffee and watch the dogs swim while my husband went fishing. Very relaxing. The sandy beach is shallow for a long ways and would be great for little kids. The water wasn't too cold, it was the perfect temperature to cool off. We had nothing but sun and heat our week, the cabin inside heats up but there are fans and at night the temperature drops immensely, so you can have a great night sleep. The master bedroom bed was sooo comfy and my daughter said her bed in the loft was also soooo comfy. The screened in porch is awesome when the bugs get a little ugly. I would recommend this property to everyone. We are definitely returning next year.

Love this place

  • 5 of 5

Just got back from our seventh annual trip to Eagan and already miss it. The cabis has everything you could need including peace and quiet, and a georgious view of the lake. After seven years I can not immagine going to another place and will keep coming for years to come. The family that rents the place are also fantastic and make sure you have a great stay. I would definately reccomend the Ranch at Eagan.

Our favorite fishing vacation

  • 5 of 5

Beauty, privacy, wildlife galore and amazing fishing! What more could you ask for? We've never caught so many fish on a single trip. We saw bears, bald eagles, a fox and even heard wolves. And of course the loons calling to one another across the lake late at night is not to me missed.

The cabin is fully furnished with modern amenities yet completely cut off from the rest of the world. At night you cannot see another light or hear a motorized vehicle. A perfect getaway.

My family and I love to travel up to British Colombia each year for summer vacation. We usually stay at a different place each year. From now on I think we'd like to just come back to this cabin. We all agreed it was one of our favorite vacations.

The family that owns the cabin are the nicest people, just wonderful to deal with.
