My family and business reside in Austin, TX... but our hearts are always in Kona, HI. We have loved the island and the waters that surround it for decades. When we visit our 'piece of paradise' we love to snorkel, paddle board, hike, cliff jump, and catch up with our good friends living on the rock.
Laura Weaver purchased this house in 2011
Kona Mountain Home and Cottage is very special... central to Kailua-Kona, easy access to all North and South Beaches, yet so remote the birds are louder than any vehicle traffic. KMH is nestled in the eco-minded development of Kaloko and the forest reserves on the slopes of Hualalai.
More than your run of the mill vacation rental... explore the island like a local. Kayaks and 6 person Hot Tub, Paddle and Surf Boards, Beach chairs and Shade canopies, Coolers and Snorkel gear... all for your use and enjoyment. Play, Explore, Relax @ Kona Mountain Home.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at KMH. I want to thank you for your special consideration given us post stay.I would certainly recommend your property to anyone considering a vacation to the Island of Hawaii.
This is a bright, happy, updated home that feels loved - and feels like its owners really want their guests to be able to make the most of their stay. We've been here twice and would love to return. The property manager is available and tends to pop in to check on things - I'm sure it could be worked out otherwise if desired. Nice to have her there in case of an issue - the dishwasher broke during our stay and addressed the problem. The owners are very friendly and communicative and are happy to accommodate requests and inquiries about your stay. The house is in a location that requires a lot of driving to and from town if one needs to run errands often, and doesn't get a lot of sun due to the clouds at the higher elevation - but nonetheless is a lovely hideaway that feels very private and exclusive. The sunsets peaking through the trees as the sun sinks below the horizon of the sea way off in the distance, are absolutely beautiful. We had a small wedding here and it accommodated almost all of our needs - lots of fridges to store food in, beautiful large lanai for lounging and dining, fairly well-equipped kitchen (though the stove is quite outdated); in our opinion, the only drawback to having gatherings here is that feels short a bathroom - there is really only one small common bathroom with easy access, the other two are in the master bedroom and guest house. Great set-up for laundry (which you really need when frequenting the beach), clean and comfortable bed and bath linens, lots of beach toys, towels, chairs and coolers. There were two beach tents, and we tried each of them on separate days, but unfortunately both of them had seen better days and couldn't be assembled. I left something behind and the property manager was happy to mail it back to me. Overall we highly recommend this place and would love to share it with loved ones again someday.
Kona Mountain Home was a wonderful addition to our once in a life time vacation. We were very relaxed and comfortable in this house. Our family of eight were fortunate to be able to sit down in the mornings and eat breakfast together as we reviewed our plans for the day and most nights we also ate dinner together. Thank you to the Weaver family for sharing this magnificent home with us.
Big, Beautiful, relaxing mountain house with everything in it, what else can we asked for? We wished we could have stayed there longer!! Love the place very much!! Hope to go back there again someday! :)
My family and I had a wonderful stay (several adults, 1 toddler and 1 infant) at the Kona Mountain Home. The main home and cottage were incredibly spacious and full of creature comforts (see extensive list of amenities which, as it turns out, is not everything!). The property is also beautifully and thoughtfully maintained. The home is a short 10 minute drive from Target, Walmart, Costco so we stocked up a bunch of groceries and enjoyed cooking at home several days.
Laura was incredibly responsive before, during, and after our stay. We did not have to call the property manager for any assistance during upon our arrival he contacted us to assure us that he was available (thank you!). If we return to Kona with a similarly sized clan (of 10), we'd definitely stay here again.
PS. Make sure to leave a note from your stay in the shared guest journal--such a charming remnant of the many memories shared in the beautiful home!
Our family stayed at this property for 12 days this February. Our party consisted of myself, two teens and my parents. The separate cottage was a big plus for my parents to have their own space, and the main house was spectacular. Beautiful furnishings and an amazing layout... with everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The kitchen was well stocked with all utensils, dishes, gadgets etc. and the garage below had everything we needed to get out and enjoy the island. Laura and Gudrun the property manager were very accomodating and helpful. The location of the property was gorgeous with amazing views and was very refreshing to return to the slightly cooler temperatures after our days on the beach. We had easy access to shopping, Kona and lots of beaches, but felt like we had the island to ourselves when we arrived home each evening. The grounds were well kept and our kids enjoyed meeting Woody the sheep, along with a Chameleon, some Geckos and a stick bug to name a few critters we found outside. The convection setting on the oven did not work but the oven itself worked fine... other than that everything was great! All in all I cannot say enough about how amazing this place was... we will be back for sure!!
This breathtaking property is immaculately kept, has multiple spectacular views, and every kitchen amenity you can imagine. From the lanai, you can view the expansive grounds, listen to birds, watch the sunset, and even see the ocean. Walking the well maintained grounds is like walking in a tropical paradise. The home offers ample space and storage for a large family or group with enough privacy and comfort for all. Although we felt very far away from it all, the town, airport, and shopping were very convenient. In addition, the mountain location made it much cooler than the town below, and we hiked a beautiful trail nearby. We appreciated the hot tub, barbecue, beach equipment and even the children's toys. The owner and property manager were extremely helpful with the accomodations and local information, and professional beyond all expectations.
