About Laura Weaver
My family and business reside in Austin, TX... but our hearts are always in Kona, HI. We have loved the island and the waters that surround it for decades. When we visit our 'piece of paradise' we love to snorkel, paddle board, hike, cliff jump, and catch up with our good friends living on the rock.
Laura Weaver purchased this House in 2011
Why Laura Weaver chose Kailua-Kona
Kona Mountain Home and Cottage is very special... central to Kailua-Kona, easy access to all North and South Beaches, yet so remote the birds are louder than any vehicle traffic. KMH is nestled in the eco-minded development of Kaloko and the forest reserves on the slopes of Hualalai.
What makes this House unique
More than your run of the mill vacation rental... explore the island like a local. Kayaks and 6 person Hot Tub, Paddle and Surf Boards, Beach chairs and Shade canopies, Coolers and Snorkel gear... all for your use and enjoyment. Play, Explore, Relax @ Kona Mountain Home.

Best of Both Worlds : Tranquil Mountain Setting - Short Drive to Tourist Attractions
This home was perfect for our extended family holiday and we enjoyed every minute of our stay. The rural, mountain setting is extremely quiet and peaceful. We woke to bird song in the morning, watched beautiful sunsets in the evening and ended the day stargazing the dark night sky. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and the hot tub was sparklingly clean and well maintained. The exotic jade plants hanging at the front entrance of the home say it all......TROPICAL PARADISE!
The layout of the property is well designed and suited us - lots of open, communal space in the kitchen/dining/living room areas with the bedrooms tucked away for privacy and quiet. My favourite place to relax was on the beautiful covered veranda.
The kitchen is very well equipped. We are foodies and cooked most meals. We were delighted to find the kitchen contained every gadget or appliance we wanted. Was also helpful to have a huge variety of spices and staples in the pantry. The BBQ grill was new and large enough to cook for a crowd.
This property is very nicely furnished but even more impressive were the extras ....helpful guide books, coolers, beach chairs, towels, boards, etc. - really everything needed to have a great day at the beach. It's just a short drive down the mountain to the beaches and touristy areas so I felt we had the best of both worlds..... easy access to tourist attractions but quiet, private accommodations.
I was a bit concerned the house might be hot with no air conditioning, but the breeze and mountain altitude kept us very comfortable. My other concern at the time of booking was the wifi connection. We had absolutely no problems staying connected. We would highly recommend this property and hope to go back again sometime. Over the years, my family has stayed in a number of VRBO's and this property was probably the best overall. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us!
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I hope you and your family have wonderful memories of Kona and we would love to have you as guests again.
Food for the Soul
This is a great house for a family or a group of friends. Our group was 4 couples taking a break from our kids and everyday life. Everyone had their own room and space; we never felt that we were on top of each other. We cooked almost every night, beached and picnicked during the day and recharged our batteries. It was a fabulous holiday. The beds are comfortable too! Very important when renting a house.
Wonderful vacation rental
You will love this property! Our party of five stayed four nights here over new years and couldn't have been happier. The owners are lovely to work with before arrival. The property manager gave us some great tips on hiking and beaches. The house and gardens are clean, beautiful , spacious and well appointed (all manner of beach equipment including stand up paddle board, kayak, chairs, towels, coolers etc, wonderful hot tub, huge dining table and well appointed kitchen). An easy drive into town for groceries or dinner or to wonderful beaches. We found this location/house even better than the oceanfront spot we moved to in Kona afterwards. We rent a lot of VRBO spots and this one is outstanding.
great vacation house, especially for families with kids
plenty of play spaces: we had 4 kids running and exploring wildly in the backyard.
plenty of beach/activity supplies: there are a whole garage full of different supplies for different activities. so enjoy!
NOTE: the elevation is 2600 feet. so the temperature is lower than you would expect normally, especially in the early morning.
Loved it!! Great experience, made great memories with the ohana
Aloha! Where do I start? This property has it all! It is set on 3 lush acres with limes, oranges and coffee beans growing in the yard along with all sorts of tropical vegetation and flowers. The main house is gorgeous, cozy and decorated beautifully! The kitchen is very functional and has so many extras. Lots of grocery staples, seasonings, gadgets, appliances, Tupperware (for taking snacks to the beach)...the pantry is packed and the cookware was great! There is lots of storage space in the house, the floors are beautiful, the ceilings are beautiful...I am ready to move here! The beds were comfy and the bathrooms were stocked with anything you may have forgotten. There is a washer & dryer on the main level (with tons of launary soap, bleach, stain remover...) and there is another larger washer & dryer in the lower level. The lower level of the house had exercise equipment and a garage full of every beach accessory you can imagine along with coolers in every size, beach towels, a paddle board, surf board, kayak, snorkel gear, water shoes in every size, sand toys, beach chairs, an umbrella...the list goes on & on. The outdoor area is also gorgeous. The lanai off of the kitchen is just beautiful and big. Wish I had this at home! The hot tub got used in the morning and every evening. You relax in it while surrounded by nothing but nature. So serene!
It is cooler at the house than in town and at the beach since it is up on the mountain, which made the hot tub even better. We never used air conditioning. We had cool mornings and cool evenings at the house and hot, sunny days at the beaches.
The house was easy to get to and in a great location to explore both north and south of the Kona area. You will need to rent a car, but you would want to do that no matter what because this island has so much to see and do!! It was very easy to get around.
The Big Island itself is the most interesting, diverse and nature filled island we have ever been to. The weather was perfect every day. We have fallen in love with this island and with this house. Can't wait to come back! Mahalo!
