The owner's were very responsive, the home was absolutely as advertised, and despite the arctic temperatures, it was warm and cozy.
My wife and I stayed there Thurs thru Sunday. Nice quiet setting. Was close enough for skiing Blue Mtn and just a little over an hour drive to Elk Mountain. Enjoyed the hot tub on the deck and the fire pit also. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Would like to stay there again in the summer to see what the lake is like!
Beautiful home , great amenities... perfect for a get away. The Kegelmans are very nice and thoughtful . Will definitely rent from them again .
The cabin was very easy to find and get into when we arrived. Walking in, I was astonished at how nice and cozy the whole place was! The back yard was beautiful and not only was the hot tub amazing, but there were lights strung around the deck that added a nice touch. There are enough trees even in the winter that you have privacy and aren't looking right into the neighbors houses. It isn't too far away from stores and gas stations, but I still felt like I wasn't even part of the world when I was there (which was exactly what I was looking for). My boyfriend and I happened to rent the place on the coldest weekend of the year so we spent most of our time inside watching movies, eating unnecessary amounts of food, and of course hanging out in the hot tub, and it was perfect because that's exactly what we planned to do. There was a lot of extra space and it was nice to not feel like we were on top of each other the whole time. There was enough space that he could have his area and I could have mine. The owners were very responsive before the trip and during. They made sure all my questions were answered in a timely manner and ensured that I had all the information I needed. They also sent a little follow up text to me after our stay, which was very thoughtful.
If you're considering staying here - you should! It's worth every penny. We definitely want to come back here at some point in the summer so we can enjoy the lake amenities as well! We drove down to check out the lake and it's pretty sizeable; looks awesome for paddle-boarding and canoeing! Thank you for providing such a wonderful mini-vacation for us!
We truly loved our weekend at the Kegelman's Log Home. It's everything you expect in a mountain cabin in the woods (musty smells included) and much more. The Kegelman's were very quick to reply and easy to deal with, flexible with check-in and check-out times. The place was clean, the kitchen supplies were very adequate, the bedrooms were roomy, the extra space in the loft was a surprise and our favorite was the deck and hot tub. When we weren't in town, we lived on the deck. We also really liked Bear Creek Lake Community. It's such a great user-friendly lake, we enjoyed the use of the kayaks. As if there isn't enough to do in Jim Thorpe, there is plenty to do right there in the community. We left wishing the weekend was much longer. We will absolutely consider a return trip. The Leathermans
The cabin was quaint and decorated as if at a resort lodge. The sleeping quarters were if you were staying in a high priced Bed and Breakfast. An additional treat was that we were always visited by wildlife (deer and one morning wild turkeys). The jacussi was always inviting and used almost every night.
Day times were spent on the lake. Fishing in the morning, at the beach or the spacious pool in the afternoons. On one occasion we spent an afternoon in Jim Thorpe visiting the rail station and the shops.
The restaurants were diverse, reasonably priced and excellent cuisine.
The owners Jim and Natalie were always available (via phone or e-mail) though there was little need to contact them.
It's too late now, but I should have booked two weeks, not one.
