The Unique Modern NYC Studio is a tastefully designed studio apartment in Astoria, New York City. It is conveniently located just a short 3 minute walk to the subway station. From there, it takes only 10 minutes to reach Manhattan.
This beautiful studio has high ceilings, hard wood floors, an exposed brick wall, and three very large windows in the living room and kitchen. The space receives plenty of sunlight. The studio is about 350 sq. ft.
The studio is designed with high quality, ultra modern, and mid-century modern furniture and fixtures. There is a large tweed sofa that flattens into a long twin bed (80'' x 40''). The sofa sits on a custom built platform, which houses the therapeutic queen size Tempur-Pedic mattress. The door to the platform opens to allow the bed to roll in and out from under the platform.
There is a large flat-screen television with satellite tv, which sits on a Mid-Century Modern Danish walnut dresser. The dining area has a walnut table with modern dining chairs. The modern and bright kitchen is fully equipped with all pots, pans, and utensils needed to prepare a meal. The bathroom is modern and clean with bamboo furniture and has a tall window.
We are sure you will enjoy your stay in this modern, new, bright, cheerful apartment, which has lots of character. For example, the wood around the windows and the platform are made from maple trees which we harvested from Upstate New York, dried, milled, cut, and installed all ourselves.
The neighborhood of Astoria is the most diverse area in New York City. You will find this special area to be very conveniently located to many shops, boutiques, markets, restaurants, cafes, bars, beer gardens, museums, parks, and any other establishment that one needs or wants to have nearby in an urban setting. Many restaurants in Astoria have been highly rated by the Zagat restaurant guide, recommended in the prestigious Michelin guide, and raved about in The New York Times. For you, our guest, is a large welcome booklet in the apartment to help you with your planning, which includes details such as an extensive list of restaurants in the area, many nearby markets, and a map of the area with key points. This booklet will help to immediately get you familiar with the area.
The apartment altogether is very enjoyable to wake up, relax, eat, and sleep in. It is sunny and cheerful, clean, new, fresh, and will contribute plenty of happiness and wonderful memories to your holiday in New York City!
Me and my wife stayed at the property during may 2015, for about 10 days.
The studio was exactly as described.
Comfortable, very clean, very organized and located in a very pleasant neighborhood, although at first impression we were a bit concerned.
Just the first impression, Astoria is one of the most interesting places in NY. The amazing Museum of Moving Image takes only few minutes walking from the studio.
We met Jason, who was polite and very helpful. The guestbook they´ve organized was really good, packed with excellent tips about local restaurants and attractions.
The mattress was so good!
We absolutely recommend this property and will certainly come back again.
Thanks Jason and Jessica!
The owner and the managers were very helpful and friendly. The managers fixed problems in the studio immediatly.
I recommend the apartment, it´s very close to shops, restaurants, self-service laundries, library and the subway. Also the Kaufman Studios are close; with a great museum and a very good way to spent a rainy day.
The neighbourhood is very friendly as well.
We're so glad we booked this apartment for our 5 night trip to New York, not least because it's considerably cheaper than booking a hotel in Manhattan!
The transport links are perfect - Steinway St subway is only a few minutes walk away from the apartment and can get you into Manhattan in no time at all. It was also minimal effort getting from JFK Airport to the apartment - we got the AirTrain to Jamaica station, then the E subway to Jackson Heights, then changed to the local M/R line.
The apartment itself was ideal for the two of us. We were out exploring the city from 10am to 10pm so only really made use of the bed and bathroom, but the apartment is equipped with everything you'd need if you chose to dine in. The pull out bed is definitely the highlight - an amazingly comfortable memory foam mattress and pillow! We could hear footsteps from the upstairs neighbours as well as people coming in and out of the building, so if you're a light sleeper like me then maybe consider taking earplugs if you want an undisturbed sleep. My wife on the other hand managed to sleep like a baby!
We absolutely loved the local neighbourhood and felt safe at all times of day. The apartment is on a quiet one-way residential street but the surrounding main roads have plenty of bars, restaurants, cafes and shops. One bar in particular we'd recommend is the Queens Kickshaw on Broadway, just five minutes walk from the apartment. One evening we also ventured a little further into Astoria to 30th Avenue where there were even more bars and restaurants - we opted for Judy & Punch for a craft beer in their beer garden, then went across the road to the Shady Lady for dinner - both were excellent.
The owners Jason and Jessica were very quick to reply to any emails we sent before and during our stay and left a very helpful information booklet in the apartment. It was a pleasure staying in their apartment and we'd definitely stay there again if and when we return to New York!
This cozy flat is perfect for those wanting to be close to the city but far enough away to be quiet as well. Spotless and small but has everything you need. Subway was within a few minutes walk as were grocery and convenience stores. Jessica was so accommodating and made our arrival and departure easy and she was full of helpful information. I would stay here again anytime.
This apartment is just perfect! It has everything neer by or inside.
The owner is very kind and always answers your questions.
I loved everything was so clean.
I would like to come back!
Astoria is located in the New York City borough of Queens, just over the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge, also known as the 59th Street Bridge, which stretches over the East River from East Midtown Manhattan. This special neighborhood has a wonderful history, which includes being the location where Steinway & Sons, the finest piano company in the world, chose to build shop in 1853. The closest train station, named Steinway Street, where the M and R lines stop, is just a 3 minute walk from the apartment and will get you to East Midtown Manhattan in only 10 minutes. Astoria is a very lively area, which is heavily populated with restaurants, cafes, pastry shops, and has a vibrant nightlife. The Museum of Moving Image and Kaufman Studios is a 10 minute walk from the apartment. Also nearby are the Noguchi Museum, Socrates Sculpture Park, and the MoMA affiliated PS1 Museum.
