Eleuthera Estate Rental Photos and Description

5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 12

Welcome to Bonefish Bay, a private beachfront estate on ten acres with a heated oceanfront pool and a deep-water boat dock and boat ramp. Bonefish Bay is secluded, but located less than two miles from the village of Governors Harbour, with its stores, restaurants, banks, and services. Bonefish Bay has over 4000 square feet of living space, including a private guest cottage. An abundance of glass provides extensive and unobstructed beach, ocean, and sunset views from every major room. A short set of stone steps takes you down to your small and private beach, perfect for wading and swimming. The estate’s waters are teeming with marine life and offer excellent snorkeling, swimming, and fishing.

The elegant Spanish Colonial main house features a large living room with a wall of glass looking out over the ocean. The modern kitchen, with a beautiful ocean view, features granite throughout and is fully equipped with a gas range and oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and separate laundry room with washer and dryer. The spacious kitchen has bar-chair seating for four, looking out at the ocean. There is also a large separate dining room.

The stunning master bedroom suite, furnished with a king bed, has a a private patio and a direct ocean view through a wall of glass. It is connected to a master bath where you can enjoy ocean views while you luxuriate in the jacuzzi tub or glass-enclosed shower. One guest bedroom has direct ocean views; the other has a garden view and an indirect ocean view. The three main bedrooms have full en suite bathrooms and king or queen beds. The fourth bedroom, a converted den, has a double bed and a half bath which also serves the living areas. The living room and dining room are also equipped with a sofa beds.

If you like to take in the sea breeze or bask in the sun, you’ll love the grand patio, just off the living room, with its beautiful ocean and sunset views. The patio is elegantly furnished with a wrought-iron dining set for outdoor dining, as well as a lounge area with an outdoor sofa and chairs. It is equipped with a gas grill for outdoor cooking. The kitchen and two bedrooms have smaller private patios.

The Guest Cottage, which houses the fifth bedroom, offers direct ocean views and is separated from the main house for extra privacy. It has a queen bed and a full bath. It also has an oceanfront patio, a particularly delightful spot. It's available for an extra charge. If you choose not to use the Guest Cottage, it will remain empty during your stay. It will not be rented to another guest.

The private boat dock is located beside the guest cottage. Step onto your boat and enjoy spectacular fishing, diving, and cruising on some the hemisphere’s most beautiful waters. If you don’t choose to bring your own boat, we can arrange a boat rental for you. The estate also features a full-size boat ramp and a waterfront gazebo. In addition to its private beach, Bonefish Bay has 1000’ of frontage along a private peninsula with excellent snorkeling, fishing, and exploring by land or sea.

Bonefish Bay is fully equipped with central air, high speed internet, WIFI and Ipod dock. There is a flatscreen cable TV in the living room with Apple TV and a flat-screen TV with a DVD player and Apple TV in the master bedroom. For outdoor use, there is a gas grill, beach chairs, and two sea kayaks for exploring and viewing the sealife. The house is supplied with a crib, children’s books and DVD movies, games, beach toys, and inflatable floats. Beach chairs, umbrellas, and beach towels are provided. Just bring your toothbrush and a change of clothes!

The town of Governors Harbour, a mile away, has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored Haynes Library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreign residents and tourists. Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, a dive shop, and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry in Governors Harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.

The island of Eleuthera is famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 8000 residents, is completely safe any time of the day or night. Enjoy the rare experience of picking up hitch-hikers and leaving your keys in the car wherever you go. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class. Boating, surfing, and other water sports are also popular. There is excellent sightseeing as well. Eleuthera has vast caves, cliffs, a bottomless ocean hole, many unique beaches, historic churches and 19th century homes, and small villages to explore. We hope you will enjoy our Bonefish Bay Estate, and experience all our island has to offer.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This house, the property, the location, the planning before arrival, the

attention once we arrived and while there, and as we were leaving, is a 10+.

The home owner (Michele) and the management ( Matthew) are first rate.

Michele and Matthew are the epitome of customer service. We had a few

challenges while there ( my husband became very ill with stomach flu.

Nothing he caught while there!) and not only did Michele drive us to the

doctor, she also had his prescription brought to our house from a town an

hour or more away. Couldn't have made it without her.

This estate is beautiful, even better in person. The landscaping is STUNNING and the cove this house sits above, well WOW! There were 8 of us and if we weren't in the water ( clear ocean or great pool), on the ample deck, cooking, or off premise enjoying governors harbor or surrounding towns in some way, we were gathering and laughing in the large kitchen. We all felt very at home here and will definitely be back..........very soon!

Thank you, thank you, to you both!

Great week at Bonefish Bay

  • 5 of 5

We were two families (4 adults and 5 kids aged 7-14) that just completed a week's stay at Bonefish Bay and had a great time! The house was very comfortable for the nine of us and with a lovely setting on the Caribbean. We explored the sea, fished from the rocky point on the property and used the house as a great launching pad for exploring Eleuthera from top to bottom as it was our first visit to the island.

Matthew and Tara were extremely helpful during and after the rental process and Michele, the owner was very easy to work with and accommodating and helpful with any questions we had. The pool was great to have as was the air conditioning, kayaks, etc. For our group, being just a mile or so north of Governor's Harbour was a great location for being able to explore both north and south on the island.

We had several trips/adventures planned in advance but while the weather overall was great, it was windy on several days which resulted in cancelling or rescheduling some of the guided trips. We did end up taking a boat tour with Eleuthera Tours which we highly recommend. Scheduling with Kristel was easy and her husband Donald was great to have take us around. They offer several trips and all will be fun. If you're looking to do some deep sea fishing and open to driving up to Spanish Wells, we highly recommend Deek and Tweedie from Spanish Wells (look up www.fishingwithdeek). They were awesome and we caught a boatload of big fish. For eating out, we liked Rainbow Inn (for pizza night on Mondays), 1648 Grille and the Buccaneer. Da Perk was also good for breakfast. Sammy and the pool/bar scene at Sky Beach Club was fun as well.

Highlights for our group were having a dolphin join us for a swim and riding the waves one day at the beach by Sky Beach Club, gathering up starfish at bonefish bay at low tide, exploring the many beaches on both sides of the island, visiting Queen's Bath, fishing up near Spanish Wells and generally just enjoying the friendliness of the people on Eleuthera.

All in all, we highly recommend renting with Matthew and renting Bonefish Bay. We had an awesome week and would be more than happy to go back again!!

An unfortunate vacation selection.

  • 1 of 5

Back in early 2015 my wife and I prepared for our annual February 2016 vacation rental. We viewed the photographs and descriptions of various properties via Google. Selecting and eventually arriving at Bonefish Bay, Eleuthera in the Bahamas, they were NOT at all of what we encountered. If we had known, we would have selected another location.

Caveat emptor? That is difficult to comprehend when it comes to foreign vacation rentals. A customer is dependent upon the brochures with their colorful photographs and glowing verbal amenities, and if possible, entrusting a broker, if one is knowledgeable about all of their rental properties. This was not the case. Most of the photographs and many of the descriptions were very misleading. A cracked sink, a cracked toilet top, its disgusting seat. The docks and dockage were unrealistically described. And it continues.

“An abundance of glass provides extensive and unobstructed beach, ocean and sunset views from every room.” “Modern kitchen, with a beautiful ocean view.” “One guest bedroom w/queen bed has direct ocean views.” “The grand patio, just off the living room, with its beautiful ocean and sunset views.” “The stunning master bedroom suite, (etc.- - -) and a direct ocean view- - -connected to a master bath where you can enjoy ocean views, etc.” Stepping outside the master bedroom door was an eighteen-inch drop.

There are NO views as depicted by the photographs and the brochures description as stated when relaxing in any of the aforementioned areas. Being an average adult in height while standing, one could not enjoy any waterfront view from any deck or room.

A “fully equipped office.” My wife required electricity to power a laptop for her voice recording equipment. There was no electrical outlet.

A “heated pool” had to be attended to by a professional service. It still did not work. The “private beach,” was cluttered with seaweed after a storm. The owner made it well known how an effort was expended to correct these two important matters, AFTER we arrived. The house phone did not work, a service had to be contacted, but they accomplished nothing. The owner provided a new cell phone. This was AFTER we arrived.

These problems, and many, many more, collectively exceeded any that we have had with 18 rental properties over the past 26 years while vacationing in the Bahamas and the Caribbean. We were very disillusioned and deeply regretted this rental.

Owner's Response: As is probably apparent from the other reviews for this property, this was really about the guest, not the house. I represent about 100 homes on the island. I have rented this house dozens of times in the last few years and my clients have loved it. You can see there have been plenty of good reviews. The guest was, to put it kindly, difficult and unusual. He had some clashes with the owner and the review was his retribution. The owner of the house is actually very responsive and responsible. She quickly fixed the pool heater when it broke and had the beach cleaned when seaweed washed in during a storm, as occasionally happens. It's true that the foliage had grown up somewhat obscuring the views. The owner has now cut it back down. This property is well maintained and the photos are up to date and accurate.

Gorgeous Property Right on the Sea

  • 5 of 5

Michele, the owner, could not have been more attentive. The house was very large, plenty of room for all eight of us. The guest house was a bonus space for us, quite nice! The house came with 5 kayaks and when we inquired where to get life vests for the kids, Michele dropped them off for us to borrow. Everyone was extremely nice and accommodating. We cooked some days and went to Buccaneer, Tippy's and the Friday night Fish Fry as well. We hired Paul Petty to take us fishing and snookering, he was fantastic. The grounds are beautiful, the pool is lovely and the Sea is clear. We would highly recommend Bonefish Bay!

Tranquility on the Caribbean

  • 5 of 5

We rented Bonefish Bay Thanksgiving week for a party of nine, including our 2-year-old granddaughter. Michele's beautiful, comfortable home was perfectly suited to our group. The large bedrooms each have a bath, and the master has a walk-in closet easily big enough for a child's bed. The spacious kitchen is completely equipped.

We brought along a few specialty food items for Thanksgiving (pie and stuffing spices, etc.) but the grocery in Governor's Harbor was well stocked, including an excellent 18 lb turkey. We traveled to the larger Rock Sound store for some items (e.g. canned pumpkin). The food prices are high on Eleuthera, but given weight limits on the smaller airlines we felt it more practical and easier to buy local. (The Rock Sound market site lists available items and prices: http://www.rsp1976.com/marketplace.html.) Restaurants are plentiful and excellent (e.g 1648, Michele's Buccaneer Club).

The beach in front of the property is very nice (not the small rocky one by the dock, but the one on the other side of the jetty. Nice sand, and shallow enough to wade out a long way. Bonefish Bay is on the Caribbean side of the island, with calmer water than the Atlantic. Great for kayaking. The property is nicely landscaped and private. The pool is very pretty and the gazebo down by the boat dock is a fine place to relax out of the sun (or rain). Our granddaughter loved it all.

We went to Harbor Island (a fun boat ride away) and Rock Sound, but spent most of our time at Bonefish Bay or nearby. The old Club Med beach, a spectacular mile of pink sand, is only 3 minutes away on the Atlantic side, and we had the entire beach to ourselves. The Leon Levy preserve is a fascinating introduction to the native ecosystem of Eleuthera, and should not be missed. The Governor's Harbor fish fry on Friday night is an obligatory experience for music and local culture.

MIchele was an extremely gracious and attentive host. More generally, I must mention the friendliness of the people on Eleuthera. Everyone we met was so pleasant. As an example, on Harbor Island our rented golf cart broke down near one end of the island. A local woman on the way to he daughter's school piled us into her golf cart and took us to two different places to find the right person to exchange it. We tried pay her for her trouble, but she refused to take anything.

We loved and highly recommend Bonefish Bay, and Eleuthera.

Beautiful Home!

  • 5 of 5

We rented Michelle's home and cottage for 9 people and it was more than big enough. Very clean. Very well stocked with everything you could need. When the microwave broke we had a new one the next day. Michelle made herself available by cell phone and always picked up which was wonderful when we had questions. The house is beautiful - bigger than we expected. The views are gorgeous and the blanket of stars every night was like being in a planetarium! Just breathtaking! The swimming was wonderful and perfect for our grandchildren (actually for all of us!!). The pool was a fantastic bonus! We drove around on the island and honestly, we really didn't need to because Bonefish Bay was so gorgeous nobody ever wanted to leave! We did take the water taxi to Harbor Island which is definitely worth the 1 hour drive to get it. You drive over the Glass Window Bridge which is surely worth seeing and renting golf carts for the day was a lot of fun! Gorgeous public beach there as well! Matthew Simon (matt@eleutheravacationrentals.net) and Tara Davis, his assistant, were excellent booking agents. If I emailed a question (and believe me I had many!) after we booked the house, one of them would answer me immediately. They were so informative about flights to get there etc. We also visited Tippy's which had good food and a gorgeous view of the turquoise water. Another cool thing is we had local fishermen swim up to our dock to sell us fresh fish they had just caught (lobster, grouper, red snapper etc) at a very reasonable price. It was all delicious!! Someone mentioned below about the cost of everything on the island and he is correct. Extremely expensive. Luckily we had been told this ahead of time so packed 2 suitcases full of snacks, meals, frozen meat etc which helped ease the cost. When we arrived almost 12 hours after leaving our home, all the frozen food was still frozen (we wrapped it in newspaper). All in all, this was a wonderful experience and we would highly recommend Bonefish Bay!!!!

Great house, beautiful pool & views!

  • 5 of 5

While cruising in the Bahamas last summer, we stayed for a week: August 1-8, 2014 at "Bonefish Bay". Our son and his family were flying in to meet us for a week so we needed a large home with a pool and a boat dock with power that would accommodate our 38' sports fish yacht- this lovely home was perfect! Michelle, the owner, was very helpful with every detail to make our stay wonderful. Our son, his wife and their three children (ages 6,9, 11) loved Eleuthera...we visited Harbor Island, the Queen's Baths, Glass Bridge and several great local restaurants that Michelle recommended. We had rental cars so grocery shopping nearby was convenient and easy. I cooked breakfasts and many dinners in the kitchen which had everything we needed- cutlery, utensils, dishes, glassware, pots and pans. There is a washer and dryer and plenty of beach towels etc. We hired a terrific guide, a friend of Michelle's, who spent one day on our boat snorkeling at local reefs with us to spearfish and catch lobster- the kids loved him! The grounds of the house are lovely and nicely maintained- lots of tropical plants. The small beach behind the house on the calm shallow bay was perfect for the kids to explore unchaperoned. We drove to several beaches on the ocean side that had beautiful reefs along the shore for snorkeling and lovely sandy beaches for shelling and relaxing. I would highly recommend "Bonefish Bay" to anyone seeking a large, well appointed home with large pool and dock on Eleuthera. It was a delightful vacation!
