This large flat is located in the Montmartre area, near rue Lepic (famous for Amélie Poulain). It is located at 100 meters from the Sacré Coeur. The rooms are large and very well decorated. The flat is very comfortable and very charming. There are many shops and stores for food around the flat and the open air market located rue Lepic, and rue des Abbesses are just 50 meters from your flat. The flat has easy connections with the major tourists attractions such as Opéra Garnier and mains streets for shopping (15 minutes), Champs Elysées (15 minutes). It can be reached easily by every airports and train stations. Walking distances from the apartment are: 3 minutes for the nearest metro station. The area is safe.
Agree with other comments. Location great, flat characterful but would be nicer with a bit of attention to detail. Bare bulbs on electric wires hanging from every ceiling; rotating mixer tap in kitchen; loose shower-head. Also some painting was done on front door when we were out which one of us got on her hands! Main complaint is ridiculous key collection arrangements trekking across Paris in a heat wave on a saturday with your luggage after a dawn start was a severe test of our sense of humour! What's wrong with a key safe at the property? Simple. We have rented many properties in Europe over many years & have never had such an unfriendly & annoying method before. Windows had to be open due to heat and it was very noisy at night. Probably would not be so bad in winter or autumn with windows closed. Final insructions a bit over the top too; "no talking on stairs; no this,no that. Police may be called etc etc." What's wrong with "have consideration for your neighbours" We are not hooligans!
Have to say not very clean on arrival despite a 40 euro cleaning charge.
But we had a great time & flat is basically very pleasant.
We stayed as a family of 4 for 6 night which included valentines evening. The apartment was what we expected. A bit of a trck to pick up the keys and get across town. The metro system is great get a carnet of tickets 11.40 euros for 10 trips. Trams are every4 mins. Great central location. Walk past the Moulin Rouge straight on until you come to the road. Cross over at the lights and on top of a DIY store there is a great cheap restraunt. The only draw back was the road outside the apartment which is very noisy. Bin men wake you up every morning around 6. My kids like to have a laugh and the next door neighbour banged on the wall. Saying that sitting on the steps of the Sacre Coer with a bottle of wine looking over paris, watching the lights of the eifle tower twinkle on valentines night was breathtaking. Watch out for the con men at the bottom, dont speak to the or you will be ripped off.
The flat is very central to the Montmatre area and only five minutes walk from Abbess station. We went as a family group of five adults and it was ample for our needs. You do need to get along as there is limited privacy with the sleeping arrangements! The shower was warm and there was no shortage of hot water
If you like practising your French in the local shops and bars, you will find plenty of opportunities to do so. If you like french cheeses and charcuterie, the Rue Lepic is five minutes walk away and well worth a visit. The local baker's shop is at the corner of the street and the Bar Helice is just a few doors away.
There are plenty of places to eat and you will get a warm welcome.
Finally, when you first arrive, you may find the lock on the main door to the flat a bit stiff. You have to be brutal and turn the key anticlockwise. It will eventually move! Don't be discouraged.
Well described when we booked - clean, well heated in winter, great location within Montmartre - very easy reach of 3 metro stops (Abbesses, Anvers & Pigalle - Lines 12 and 2), cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, funiculaire, Sacre Coeur, shops etc. Nice friendly little bar in same street just a few doors away and without that many tourists.
E-mail directions and dealings with owner fine and helpful - although 1 thing that would be useful to know is directions from Anvers metro for when you first arrive - about same distance as Abbesses from apartment but Abbesses has more steps to climb than any metro station we have used in Paris so it is a long way to take suitcases if the lift isn't working! Just head up the hill 30/40 metres out of the metro and you come to rue d'Orsel and it is less than 2 blocks up gentle hill from there. We used both metros regularly as its the easiest way to get around Paris.
We stayed as a family with 2 kids and its in a good area for that, but also still only a few minutes from Moulin Rouge etc.
Only a couple of minor things to note on the downside if you want to stay here - the single futon isn't the world's most comfortable, and the hot water is very hot if you have quite young kids to look after.
Only tried 2 local restaurants, both excellent for food and hospitality - French restaurant on the right on the next block of rue d'Orsel towards Anvers metro, and a Cambodian / Chinese restaurant on the left going down the hill on rue des Martyrs.
Finally, our friends stayed in a good clean 2* hotel at the same time and spent nearly double the amount for much less space.
Good apartments like this are a winner for city breaks.
Other Activities: Museums, Eiffel Towel, Notre Dame, Sacré Coeur
