Justin was an environmental analyst for the environmental epidemiology program at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for 13 years before resigning and starting up a vacation rental business in 2013. Marcie is a technical project manager in the field of software engineering in the financial services sector . Justin and Marcie live with their two girls - Ava Mae (7 years old) and Sadie (4 years old) - at 40 Atlantic Avenue. The Salty Dog Summer Stay encompasses the whole ground floor of our home and we reside on the 1st and 2nd floors.
Justin Mierz purchased this apartment in 2005
Justin's great grandparents bought the house in the 1940s, and his step father and aunt grew up there. In 2005, Justin and Marcie were able to purchase the property from the family. At the time, the house was in disrepair. Justin and Marcie slowly made major renovations and were able to restore the house. Justin and Marcie take great pride in their home and are fortunate to be the third generation to raise their family in such a special place.
Location. Arguably, the best neighborhood to live in Rockport. We are minutes from Old Garden Beach, Bearskin Neck, Headlands, Rockport Harbor, Shalin Liu Performance Center, and downtown's shops, galleries, and restaurants.
I stayed at this house with a few friends for a recent wedding. We had a wonderful time and the house was perfect for us. Justin, the owner is very friendly and was super helpful throughout the whole renting processes. The house itself was very clean, big enough to fit a pretty large party, and very welcoming. It was an extremely hot weekend (high 90's the whole time) and the AC's kept us nice and cool throughout our visit. The back yard was very big and a great place to play catch or grill. The ocean was a 5 minute walk away and was a great pre-wedding activity for us! I highly recommend a stay here...we are planning to do so again next summer!
Salty Dog was the perfect spot for our fall get away to Rockport! Clean, spacious and well appointed it was a great base to explore the area from. We are a family of four adults and it fit our needs perfectly. Justin was an amiable and easy to work with host. The beds are nice, the wireless fast, and the neighborhood peaceful. It is an easy walk to town. We look forward to returning.
We stayed on the ground floor of this beautiful home for two nights and could not have been more pleased with the accommodations. It was clean and comfortable, exactly as described. Justin was easy to communicate with throughout the entire process. The property is within walking distance of a small beach and the heart of Rockport's shopping and dining district. I absolutely recommend staying at the Salty Dog! I would love to stay here again if I can find a time to come back.
Well organized, clean, easy to access, wonderful location and helpful owner make this an ideal place for a family vacation. All was as advertised.
We had a wonderful weekend in the Rockport area and the Salty Dog was everything we could have hoped for! We loved the location of the house and all the accommodations. I would definitely recommend for anyone to stay here.
