About the property

Eco-friendly luxury king suite upstairs from an organic day spa

For couples, an artful oasis of peace and beauty, great to recharge and reconnect.

Upstairs from an all-natural day spa with an experienced therapist offering an extensive menu of services. Bohemian, world decor. Valley views. Abundant birdlife. Peaceful natural location 10 minutes from the Pacific Motorway at Burleigh.

Luxurious bed with first-rate linen. Breathtaking natural beauty and birdsong. Organic breakfast foods supplied, filtered rainwater for drinking and showering. Non toxic cleaning products. Help yourself to our organic vegetable garden.

The property garden is a well-spring of various forms of life. The creek and nearby tracts of rainforest bring in a variety of water birds and parrots. We have several fish ponds, which bring in frogs and dragonflies. And an extensive veggie garden where there is always something flowering, bringing in bees and butterflies, grasshoppers and other wondrous things. If you like the natural world, you will love this garden.

The space would serve those in search of relaxation and replenishment, or just wanting a break from the hustle of modern life an take a long slow breath in a beautiful place with someone you love to be with.

The property is 1.3 acres of gardens and bush, adjacent to a park and small creek that brings in an abundance of birdlife. Your suite is the second floor of 'The Big House', with a private terrace overlooking the park and creek, a kitchenette with a fridge, wine glasses, organic teas and coffee.

We share with you a downstairs kitchen and lounge, and believe ourselves easy going and unobtrusive, or up for a chat if you enjoy meeting new people. We do, and we value everyone's privacy. The suite and house are full of original art, interesting artefacts, books and bohemian decor from around the world.

Your private space occupies its own floor of The Big House, with a spacious en-suite, your own veranda with chairs and table, walk in robe, organic breakfast supplies, tea and coffee making facilities with fridge, dining / sitting table. You also have access to a gourmet kitchen, dining table, lounge, media room, day bed area and a large covered deck with BBQ, comfy chairs and views of the creek and valley.

Downstairs is the Day Spa treatment room, offering a range of services from relaxation massage and facials to pain relief and therapy on old gnarly injuries and other aches and pains. Arisa has been described as a wise medicine woman, a gifted healer, calming, always easy going and attentive.

Your private space is the whole of the second floor of the Big House ... we call it that because there's enough space between the house, gardens and studio for us to disappear to ensure your privacy ... an SMS or a holler of hello is all it usually takes to find us.

We are quite comfortable indulging our passion as writers in our private wing of the main house, or tending to the gardens, the various critters or working away on a project of some kind.

The property is part of Costner Park, a small enclave of acreage properties surrounded by declared bushland at the coast-end of Tallebudgera Valley. There are numerous walks, picnic spots and swimming holes nearby.

The nearest of several amazing beaches - Burleigh Heads - is 15 minutes away. Even closer is a place to hire a kayak or paddle board and cruise the Tallebudgera waterways.

Burleigh West, about 10 minutes drive, is a village with several cafes and restaurants. Along the way you will pass the Heritage Hideaway Cafe, a true local gem that serves legendary breakfasts and lunches in an atmosphere unique to the valley.

A few minutes further down the road, James Street is at the centre of the restaurant culture of Burleigh, and walking distance from the beach.

Burleigh West is also home to David Fleay's WIldlife Sanctuary on the bank of the mouth of the Tallebudgera Creek (by then, it looks more like a river). Right by the entrance to Fleays is the beginning of a paved walk along the creek edge that goes all the way to Burleigh Heads, about 6km.

About Arisa Inlakesh

What inspires us most every day is we share a commitment to Freedom, Love and Beauty, and seek to drench every moment in all three wherever possible. Our intention with our accommodation is to offer our guests a taste of that during your stay here. You will hopefully find them in abundance, or at least enough to bring your attention to such things in ways that will persist long after you leave.

In times past, we have both been immersed in the corporate world and understand first-hand the kinds of pressure and stress that drive the breakneck pace of the world in which so many of us live. We have both made and lost empires and fortunes and learned a lot as we did.

Our enthusiasm for Beauty in all its forms comes from the belief that the act of seeing it has a positive effect on our mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. To see beauty, be it in myself or others, in nature, art, words, architecture, décor, design or music, is a choice that I am free to make in every moment. The ugly side of humanity is usually just beauty trying to emerge, lost for a time in a place that has forgotten to be grateful for the simple gifts of life, blind for a while to the beauty all around.

We are motivated to leave our grandchildren a legacy they thank us for. We believe it is a basic human right to have access to a healthy natural world, and share a concern that future generations may be denied that right unless we choose, one mind at a time, to insist that our lifestyle be sustainable.

So we aspire to a lower environmental footprint in that we do. We have a ways to go before meeting our own standards, but for now, we focus on organic food (preferably grown or made ourselves), on avoiding high footprint processed foods, on minimising our intake of plastic of all kinds and to re-use what we can and recycle what we can’t.

As our guest, we invite you to experience for yourself how comfortable and pleasant a sustainable lifestyle can be.

Why Arisa Inlakesh chose Tallebudgera

This is the first house we have bought together, and both loved it before even getting to see inside. Small acreage, on a creek, surrounded by forest, with views, on a dead-end road, next to a council-maintained park ... sounded perfect.

And we loved the location, just minutes away from the hustle of the Gold Coast lifestyle, but nestled in a closed that ensured it would be peaceful. The fact that the property is almost next door to a very successful lifestyle retreat (Gwinganna), gave us the quiet certainty that the property was in the right spot for what we had in mind ... our own organic retreat centre.

Walking out the front door we found access to a half-dozen walks suitable for a range of different fitness levels, one of which includes a stunning freshwater swimming hole. Within 15 minutes drive, we found more walks along Tallebudgera Creek, around Burleigh Heads National Park and other beautiful spots. And of course, there is proximity to the world-renowned beaches like Burleigh, Miami, Palm Beach, Currumbin and Coolangatta.

From Google Maps, we were also delighted to see a bush corridor between this part of Tallebudgera Valley and the Springbrook National Park to the West and North. That would mean birds, and lots of them, dozens of varieties flying over all the time. We surmised that with a little temptation, by way of fruit, flowers and seeds, they would become regular visitors. We are happy to report we were right, and that the bird and butterfly populations are among the best we have seen anywhere in the world.

What makes this bed and breakfast unique

What makes us unique? So many things ...

First among them being the organic day spa downstairs to your suite. Arisa is a gifted therapist and healer with 17 years of experience working with people to heal and thrive. Facials are done using all-organic, hand made products. Also on offer is Reiki, reflexology and pressure-point massage for the relief of old aches and pains.

Our focus on beauty means that the suite and house are tastefully decorated using furniture, objects and art collected from around the world. It smells and feels clean because we keep it fresh without chemical cleaning products. The food we provide for breakfast tastes better because it is locally grown and organic.

In the garden, we don't spray weeds or kill bugs but find our own ways to find the balance where everything stays tidy and all the critters (including us) get enough to eat. As our guest, if you plan to cook for yourself and enjoy fresh herbs, we invite you to pick from the garden, which usually has at least 50 herbs going at a time, many with remarkable nutritional and healing properties.

The property is close to the coast but feels a thousand miles away. That we have flowing water along our western boundary that brings in so many birds and other wildlife. That the birdsong is louder than the occasional passing traffic, and that the neighbourhood is quiet enough to hear the trickle of the fountain circulating the water through the fish ponds.

My wife and I spent a weekend away here and the were blown away with how peaceful the house was.

Terry and Arisa were amazing hosts and their recommendations for local eateries was spot on.

The only point that could be worth a mention is that mosquito repellent is a must during the warmer months of the year.

We will be back soon without a doubt!

Owner's Response: Thanks Nik, for your kind words and enthusiastic support. By the way, we've found the way the mozzies were getting inside the suite (through the light fittings) and fixed that. Will look forward to seeing you both again. Until then, all the best, T&A

The location is a nature-lovers paradise, rich in bird-life, butterflies, gardens and flowers. We are just 13 km from one of the loveliest beaches on the Gold Coast (Burleigh Heads), but offer a taste of another world of birds and butterflies and the beautiful gardens that attract them.

Spend time in the garden and count the number of different birds you see in a day, or wait for butterflies to come and sample the flowers by your door, or practise the art of communing with fish in the ponds, or just pause to listen to the gentle sounds of water trickling over the waterfall.

Walk from your front door with several options, from a stroll on a flat dead-end road to a steep bush fire trail waterfall hike, or a couple of kilometres to a freshwater swimming hole or (if you dare) go on a 13 km hill climb up winding roads to the highest point in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Within 15 minutes drive, walk along a the side of Tallebudgera Creek all the way to the beach, or start at the beach and explore Burleigh Heads national park.

We provide a house manual with details of all the popular nearby walks, including directions and maps.

You have a full kitchen at your disposal, but if you prefer to eat out, 5 minutes away is an iconic local cafe (breakfast and lunch), or 10 minutes will get you to West Burleigh and a handful of cafes and restaurants, or 15 minutes and you're in James Street at Burleigh with a wide selection of restaurants, cafes and bars.

Also in the house manual is a lengthy list of eateries that includes phone numbers and addresses. In the back of the manual are menus from the local Thai and an Indian that offers a discount for takeaway.

For those wanting a relaxing few days away from maddening hustle of modern city life, our location offers the perfect combination of convenience and peace. There is no through traffic, and the acreage around us imbues a feeling of spaciousness into which beauty flows with as much natural ease as the breeze at dawn.
