About the property

Pine Island Paradise Resort is in the center of Matlacha Village, with the bay on both sides of the road in walking distance to many really good restaurants, art galleries, boat rentals, bait shops and ‘The Fishingest Bridge’ -a name given by the Guinness book of records because no matter what time of day or night there is always someone fishing on it.

You can also fish from our own dock where there is always great fishing!

There is also a story that Matlacha was made famous by Elvis Presley, the movie ‘Follow that Dream’ , was based on the book Pioneers Go Home, written from the experiences of the first white people to settle in Matlacha, but we understand that it was actually filmed on the Sanibel Causeway.

Matlacha resembles the old style Key West, rustic and quaint, so many areas like Matlacha are disappearing in the name of progress but Matlacha has been deemed Historical so as to preserve its unique qualities.

Matlacha pronounced MAT-LA-CHAY is an Indian name meaning Water to the waist, apart from the boating channels most times the water does not reach above the waist. Matlacha is a very popular fishing village where you can book a deep sea fishing event or rent a boat yourself.

Matlacha is a very popular area for kayaking, people come from all over Florida to kayak our calm tranquill waters. Matlacha and Pine Island are surrounded by a magnificent mangrove forest. This mangrove forest is Florida’s rain forest providing an ecosystem for its huge variety of marine life.

30 minutes by boat to Sanibel, Ft. Myers Beach, Boca Grande,Cabbage Key and Cayo Costa, 1 hour to Venice Beach (famous for its prehistoric sharks teeth and you can find them on the beach), 45 minutes from Ft. Myers International Airport(RSW),30 minutes from Cape Coral and Ft. Myers

Pine Island Paradise Cottage, is the perfect place to stay. It’s great for Fishing, perfect for a honeymoon, watching the Dolphins, manatees, otters, osprey and many other wild birds or for just relaxing in peace and quiet by the pool.

We also have a kayak, canoe, peddle boat(our own launch pad on site),bicycles and boat docks – all COMPLIMENTARY

Pine Island

Pine Island is not home to white, sandy beaches or luxurious resorts, yet the simplistic charm of this nature abundant island tucked into Lee County’s northwest corner, has provoked a tourist frenzy in the recent years.

Surrounded mostly by mangroves, Pine Island stretches 17 miles from north to south and up to 2 miles wide. The six communities of Pine Island consist of Matlacha, Pine Island Center, St. James City, Bokeelia and Pineland.

Mostly known for its fishing, boating and farming, Pine Island is now becoming an artistic and cultural community. Numerous artists and writers now call Pine Island their home, inspiring the many art galleries and museums throughout the island. The numerous fine seafood restaurants offer the savor of the freshest catch, while the quaint shops offer many treasures for all tastes.

Biking, kayaking, hiking, concerts and tours can take you to the most wondrous places. The tranquility of this sleepy island is refreshing to all of those that visit or those that stay. Pine Island has been called “The Forgotten Island” in the past, but once you have experienced its beauty and serenity, you simply will not forget it.

Yuck!!! Dirty and NO Privacy!!

  • 1 of 5

We were left horribly disappointed, stressed and disgusted. The property is behind a restaurant (which we thought was no big deal at first). In all fairness, we arrived 1 1/2hrs early. When we got to the house, a man answered, and was surprised we were coming. He told us he was leaving (I thought he was a tenant), and the unit would be ready for us in a few minutes. It was clearly being lived in and stunk. He did not tell us he was the owner (I asked), so I called Ronda, the property manager and told her what we found, and apparently, she dropped the ball (no one knew we were coming), and gave me a song and dance about the owner let friends and family stay there. I told her we were cancelling because the place was dirty and would not be clean and asked to talk to the owner. She told me the owner was on a flight to Boston, and we would not be receiving a refund. We drove up the road and decided whether we were going to let $1200 dollars go to waste or not, and the owner miraculously called me 10 minutes later and I told him the unit was being occupied by some man. He told me he was the man. So he lied to us. I told him I would not stay because he didn't clean the unit and he accused me of discriminating against him! How dare he! Filth knows no nationality. IT WAS NOT CLEAN. Since we would not get our money back, my husband and I decided to give it a try. We lasted 2 of the 4 nights I booked. It was gross. The shower was dirty and had a dirty razor and the owner's shampoo (I took pictures), Owner's clothes, food, toiletries were all there, The area rugs were FILTHY and stained, and worst of all, it still SMELLED and was covered up with frankincense and myrrh spray (yuck). Believe it or not, the worst part was that we were on display the whole time. There are no window coverings on the Living area sliding glass door, so the restaurant owner (who lives in the shack adjacent to ours) and any restaurant patrons could see right in. When we tried to fish, we used a table with an umbrella for shade, and the restaurant owner's wife came out and told us they belong to the restaurant, and we could not use them!! The bikes on the porch were unavailable for use since the owner said 1 was broke and the other was his! Be prepared to be on camera, because the entire outdoor patio area is being watched and recorded!! In closing, I was once a property manager, and I would have NEVER allowed an owner to do this to a visitor! We left early. NEVER AGAIN!
