About Theresa Harper
My husband and I enjoy outdoor sports, such as cycling, running, stand-up paddle boarding, and can give you great tips on where to hike or rent a bike to best enjoy our little paradise.
Theresa Harper purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Theresa Harper chose Estate Cane Garden
We are fortunate to live on such a beautiful slice of paradise. We have lived on Estate Cane Garden for 23 years and can't think of a more special piece of property on St. Croix. Our cottage is situated on a private estate where tranquility is a way of life. (We live next door to Seaside Serenity with our friendly dog, Lucy) The green pasture to our north, although occasionally cut, helps maintain the quiet ambiance of the estate. The blue Caribbean Sea, just 30 steps from the backdoor, is a playground for pelicans, sea turtles, terns, oyster catchers and many colorful fish.
What makes this Cottage unique
We have renovated Seaside Serenity with a modern kitchen and bathrooms and have added an outdoor shower, which has the best view! Enjoy sitting at the outdoor table with your coffee in the morning while the pelicans dive for their breakfast. An outdoor swing under the great Maho tree is a wonderful place to enjoy the serenity of the sea.

We had a lovely ten days at this property. Theresa thought of everything-a carafe to enjoy coffee outside seaside, waterproof phone protectors and great recommendations. Loved Lucy, Zulu and Sienna. Hope to visit again.
My wife and I celebrated our 10th anniversary on STX at Estate Cane Garden. This was an ideal location for trips to both ends of the island, with a very short drive to Christiansted and a bit longer to Frederiksted. The cottage is as it appears, has been nicely updated and is clean. That said, it is a tropical island and the usual small critters are never far away from ANY place you stay. That is just a part of tropical island life, so either accept it or vacation somewhere that is cold! The very close proximity to the water and a near constant breeze kept temperatures pleasant. Theresa graciously met us at the airport to guide us to the property after dark. It is not hard to find, but when you're tired from a long day of flying and driving on the opposite side of the road at night, having a guide the first time was much appreciated. Theresa also graciously provided an array of goodies for breakfast. Given our late arrival this was also much appreciated. There was also an assortment of snorkel gear, coolers and beach towels.
Of note, the apparently prevailing east wind resulted in pretty much constant 1-1.5 foot waves on the private beach during our week long stay. Given we are particularly strong swimmers or comfortable in really choppy water, we opted to spend most of the time lounging on the private beach and chasing waves along the shoreline, rather than swimming/snorkeling there. We did spent a lot of time relaxing on the beach. Smoother water and snorkeling was found near and north of Frederiksted.
If you are looking for a quiet, clean relaxing location, we definitely recommend this location.
Seaside Serenity more than lives up to its name. The cottage was charming and beautifully decorated with island artwork and interesting antiques. Theresa was friendly, informative and helpful. We appreciated the free-range eggs, Cruzan rum, banana/coconut bread and fresh flowers she so thoughtfully provided. We looked forward to returning to the cottage each day after our island adventures. The views were stunning, the sound of the waves relaxing and showering outdoors while gazing out at the sea a rare treat. The neighboring dogs, Lucy and Zulu, were friendly and fun to have around. Memories of our St. Croix vacation will hopefully sustain us through the next Wisconsin winter.
Clean, peaceful place with your own beach!
A well appointed seaside cottage with its own private beach. Owner is very responsive, guiding us from the airport to the property. She lives next door but is not intrusive. The cottage sits adjacent to a large open field where you are likely to see deer and osprey. The ocean view is calming with occasional brown pelicans and sea turtles. We appreciated access to snorkeling gear and beach umbrellas. Owner gave great advice for restaurants and excursions. We highly recommend Seaside Serenity at Estate Cane Garden!
15th Anniversary Trip
Seaside Serenity and the word breathtaking are synonymous. From the moment we drove up, to the time we left, we were constantly in awe of the surrounding beauty. Not knowing where to begin, as being objective is a little hard given the immensity of the beauty of the place, here goes with our review. The host Theresa is amazing. She was communicative throughout the process as well as while we were on site. It was a real pleasure to be able to chat with her and see how much she enjoys the island of St Croix and all it has to offer guests. Her directions and suggestions were always spot on. Her dog Lucy was our faithful breakfast companion as we sat out every morning eating breakfast by the sea. Lucy would walk up to say "Hello" and then lie there faithfully, guarding us, until we went in to begin our day. The home is exactly as pictured. Everything functioned as we expected it to and we loved the quaint "beach house" decor. We prepared a couple of meals each day and then would eat out most evenings in Christiansted. The outside shower is AMAZING, so much so, we used it twice a day and neither me nor my wife ever even used an inside shower during our entire visit. The kitchen is supplied with everything you could need to cook standard meals. The private beach was awesome. There were high winds during the entirety of our visit so there was always seagrass and high waves. However, I took a rake that was down at the beach and cleaned a little spot for us to sit and move back and forth to the water without having to walk in or over it. NO big deal in my book. We would have loved to used some of the snorkel gear but the waves were a little much and the turbidity of the water was not conducive to seeing very far at all. That being said, we still loved it. It as our own little place where we could sit and talk as the sound of the waves drowned out the normal daily issues and problems. Very relaxing. Theresa suggested we rent a car to drive around and see the island and we're really glad we did. We drove from one end to the other and many places in between. St Croix has some beautiful beaches and my wife and I would highly suggest a trip to Buck Island if you have time. An absolutely stunning place. We are already looking at dates for a family trip back to St Croix and Seaside Serenity as we know our boys will love this place just as much as we did.
It was a pleasure to meet you both and look forward to meeting the kids someday at Seaside Serenity! So happy you enjoyed your stay!
Heaven on Earth
We have been back a little over a week and I am ready to come back to the island and house. Theresa and Lucy (the dog) are excellent host. This is our third trip to the island and the best trip by far. We loved the house and beach. Any questions you had, any advice you needed Theresa was right next door to answer any questions. I will miss Lucy and the neighbor dog Zeus. You have to meet those two, I enjoyed spoiling them. With the breeze and the fans you really don't need the air conditioning. The serenity you feel cannot be put to words. Thank you Theresa for letting us enjoy a slice of your little heaven. Until our next vacation. Enjoy!
Seaside Serenity is a great place to stay if you want some peace and quiet! As you enter the lower gates of Cane Garden you are welcomed by ruins on the left and right. Estate Cane Garden is a private, well-preserved sugar plantation with several structures within view. It consists of 265 acres, on which several neighbors call their home. Please be mindful of this and drive on the dirt lane like you're on vacation in paradise with no rush at all.
