For those who remember 'the way it used to be' this cottage will bring back fond memories of days on the bay. One of the original block houses from the '50's, this cottage features old iron beds with comfortable quilts, a boat-shaped fireplace, a sidebaord full of fiesta ware and a vintage pink tiled bathroom. The pier is just right for fishing and crabbing and kids will enjoy the tree fort across the street.

From this quiet out of the way street you would never guess that Gulf access is just a two minute drive away. The Bon Secour Wildlife preserve access offers free parking and a boardwalk over the snow white dunes. Not as crowded as the beaches up in town this pristine area is great for shelling, surf fishing, walking and sunning.

It features 18 holes, a pro shop, and restaurant. In addition you will find tennis courts and a swim fitness center. If you want to change things up a bit try the 36 holes of Pure Palmer Golf at Craft Farms, Cotton Creek, and Cypress Bend just a 15 minute drive away. Want more? Play Kiva Dunes or the Golf Club of the Wharf; both are just five miles away.

Shopping: Ten miles north of Gulf Shores in Foley, Alabama the Tanger Outlet Center features 120 name brand shopping options for the bargain hunter. Brooks Brothers, Calvin Klein, Osh Kosh, SAS, Gap, Banana Republic, Anne Klein, and more.

Once you are finished there try the numerous antique stores in and around the area. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach have numerous shopping venues for those looking for special items to take home as a reminder of their days by the sea.

Recreation and Special Events: The City of Gulf Shores has a fantastic recreation center with daily, weekly, or monthly rates. It features an indoor temperature controlled swimming pool, basketball courts, fitness room, indoor track, ping pong and pool tables, water aerobics, yoga and other fitness classes. In the winter the city's Special Events Department sponsors an outstanding series of performances. Information can be found at the city website.

A Little Piece of Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

WONDERFUL!!! The cottage itself is absolutely adorable and the setting is spectacular. This truly is one of the most peaceful vacations I have ever had. I loved sitting outside in the evening and watching the gorgeous sunsets over the bay. The property is so quiet and peaceful and is a wonderful place to recharge and rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul. My little dog and I had such a relaxing time and I hated to leave! I will definitely go back again!!

Everything we needed for enjoying the area

  • 5 of 5

This property has an amazing view of the bay with a truly awesome pier. Everything is supplied for fishing and crabbing. The ceilings are pine panels that take me back to grandma's house. The kitchen has adequate pots, utensils and towels( I've rented houses that left me without forks and kitchen towels). I give it five stars because it was exactly as it had been described.

We enjoyed it so much and would be happy to go again.

A very clean, unique, home away from home, filled beach treasures; convenient location.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our time at the cottage; a nice comfortable property with plenty of outside benches, chairs, and a swing. The neighborhood is quiet, peaceful,, and secure. The house is filled with a beach-collectors prized possessions and every chair and couch has comfortable pillars and fans in each room. The location is very centralized for visits to Ft. Morgan or Gulf Shores. Every electrical appliance was in working order and that added to our enjoyment--we will return for future relaxing stays. Highly recommended.

Charming quaint cottage

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the Lantana Cottage. When we arrived the cottage was clean and tidy. The kitchen had the supplies needed to cook up our dinner. We were to enjoy several meals at the large kitchen table. I'm overly impressed that the bathroom was able to accommodate all five of us to hot showers immediately one after the other. The beds were comfortable and clean.

We entertained ourselves on the pier at the bay crabbing (traps provided), although everything thing we caught either let them selves out of the traps or had to be released because they were too small. But the boys had a great time anyway. The beaches, although a short drive away, were friendly and very well maintained. If you rent this cottage, you must take in the history of the area by venturing out to see Fort Morgan.

We would recommend this cottage for your family beach get away. And we will probably be back next year

We enjoyed our time at Lantana Cottage

  • 3 of 5

Although we enjoyed our stay at Lantana Cottage, the exterior of the property was not well kept and rather run down. We expected more for our $'s. The inside was clean and nice and the owners we very nice and responsive.

Winter Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Gulf Shores, AL and it was the off season so the weather was on and off again during our 5 week stay. Overall we had many good days but all were much better than what was going through in Michigan at the same time. The location and view right on the bay was very enjoyable and relaxing. We did experience a couple of pretty good storms that came through and always felt comfortable and secure in the cottage. Actually was kind of fun to watch from the porch with the view of the bay.

Martha was very nice to talk to and did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. We appreciated that Martha followed up with us after a few days to make sure everything was going OK. We also met Linda the owner and she was also very pleasant to talk with. Overall the cottage is on the older side, but was comfortable and had everything that we needed or wanted. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, glasses, cooking pots and pans and utensils. It does not have a dishwasher, but doing the dishes the old fashioned way just fine. The beds were comfortable and we slept very well during our stay. The cottage was very clean when we arrived and we encountered no problems. The cottage has WIFI and was able to use our laptop with no difficulties.

One of the mornings we had a dolphin that swam around our pier and stayed for a long time. He would swim right under where we were standing which was cool to watch. Also there are crab traps that we did use to catch several of them. We couldn’t cook them so they went back in the bay to live another day, but was fun to bring the trap up with two or three each time. There is a couple of really good golf course that are worth playing, Kiva Dunes and Peninsula are very close. (A bit pricey, but worth it) The neighbors were all very friendly, and one of them down the street brought us a bag of the best oranges we ever had, from his tree. We did get to the beach collecting shells without having big crowds.

We really enjoyed our winter break from Michigan. We wanted a very relaxing vacation, and that is exactly what we got.

We heard from Martha a few days after we returned home, indicating she had already returned the damage deposit to our account. It was a real adventure and highly recommended.
