The house was very comfortable, had everything we needed and had AMAZING views. I felt that the house was well represented and exceeded our expectations. Everything worked fine. The kids had a blast in the pool and the snorkeling behind the house was amazing. The first few days were too windy to swim behind the house so we just went to a different side of the island and found beaches with calm water. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware and dishes and glasses. The buckets to wash your feet off with was great for keeping the sand out as was the outdoor shower and hose. The beds were comfortable and we loved going to sleep and waking up to the sounds of the water. Don't miss the sunset from the beach...beautiful. The neighbors were all very friendly and we enjoyed talking to them.
Mr. Pouchie, the property manager, was awesome! He was very friendly and very helpful. When we needed more water, he brought it over right away and checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed.
We had an amazing vacation. The snorkeling behind the house was some of the best we experienced on the island. Unfortunately, because of the wind, we weren't able to swim in the water behind the house until the last 3 days of our trip. But the wind didn't stop us. We snorkeled at Rum Point, Cemetery Beach, Smith Cove, and Eden Rock. We saw the iguanas at the Botanical Gardens (not to be missed! the iguana safari was awesome and the Gardens were beautiful). The kids loved seeing the turtles at the Turtle Farm (not my favorite thing, but where else can you hold a baby sea turtle?). We took a private tour with Stuart on the Mastic Trail. Awesome experience. Stuart is amazing! Totally recommend this. We ate at Over the Edge, Kurt's Korner, Tukka, and the Italian Kitchen. The Italian was just OK, but loved all of the others. We shopped at the little Market right near by when we were in a pinch. Just a warning to others to look closely at the bread to make sure it is not moldy. Better shopping is the market by the Italian Kitchen. A rental car is a must! We hope to go back again! Amazing experience and totally recommend this house.
Great location for snorkeling right out the front. Nice people next door who live there year round made our stay even better. Recommend this place if you want to escape and unwind. The house was clean. Pool was clean, the grounds were up kept nicely. Verizon cell does work here. Catch a local fishing boat coming off boat ramp by the Edge and see if they want to sell their catch for some fresh fish. Thank You
The home is located as described. The ocean is a stones throw away and the sand comes right up to the patio. The patio is a fabulous place to read and have a cocktail. There is a coral formation right at the waterline so it is not the best place for children to enter the water, but the beach is great for them. You feel like you have the entire beach and pool to yourself most of the time as most of the neighbors work during the day.
Our family came to snorkel and we wanted to be away from the very busy 7 mile beach area. This home fit our needs. You definitely need a car. There is a small grocery close, but it carries limited items. We shopped in Georgetown and brought the food out with us. We fixed about half our meals in. There are quite a few options to eat out within a 15 minute drive.
There are a variety of activities available at the resorts either to the east or west of the house about 15 minutes away. The botanical garden and Mastic Trial are minutes away. We found fabulous snorkeling places around the island.
The property was clean on the inside. The outside-we were missing screens and had windows that would not stay up so we had to run the air conditioning most of the time. I would have like to have the windows open and listened to the ocean. The dishwasher had problems and they indicated that they were replacing it.
The home had both cable and good internet available. There was a good washer and dryer which comes in very handy as you will use a lot of beach towels.
I would recommend this property to a friend/relative if they wanted a quiet relaxing place to vacation and have great beaches available a short drive away. If you are looking for shopping and nightlife, I would stick to 7 mile beach area.
The entire island is only 22 miles wide from west to east; so you are never too far from anywhere on Grand Cayman. The homes in Northside offer great reef protected snorkeling. The beaches in Northside are can have plenty of white sand, but also can be pebbly or rocky “ironshore” with natural rock formations too. Either way, with the abundant marine life we have in the water, you will want to wear foot protection (pool shoes or fins). The prevailing breeze (trade winds) from the east also make flying insects less of a nuisance—many of the homes on Northside don’t even need a screened porch. In northside we have a primary school, a health clinic with ambulance, post office and Chisholm’s grocery store (small country store) for basics. We also have “Over the Edge” restaurant (www.over-theedge.com) closer to Old Man Bay—a great casual restaurant with great food and reasonable prices. They have a deck over the water. Northside is an easy 10 minute drive from Rum Point as well as 10-15 minutes from the Lighthouse restaurant, Tukka restaurant in east end, the east end resorts— www.morritts.com and www.thereef.com. Both resorts offer bars, restaurants, pools, watersports, etc., grocery store, local lunch spots and watersports.
