Located in the Elmwood District of Berkeley. This is a wonderful location and a perfect place for visiting CAL Parents and fans. The best East Bay location, situated within 5 minute walking distance of College Avenue (College & Ashby) and its diverse shops, cafe's and restaurants. UC Berkeley and the Claremont Hotel are also within walking distance. Close to major bus lines, 15 minute walk to BART.
This Flat is part of a large house built in 1906. Park in your own private driveway. Enter through your own dedicated entrance into a cozy sitting room followed by a spacious bedroom with queen size bed, dresser and desk. Full size (elderly-friendly) bathroom follows, and leads to a sunny, well equipped kitchen. Kitchen has stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker and other amenities including full size washer and dryer.
This flat is perfect for those who want to be near the UC Berkeley Campus and be able to walk throughout the local community without having to get into an automobile.
When you do need to drive somewhere, you will have easy access to San Francisco, Marin County and the Wine Country, major airports, and all local East Bay attractions.

Close to the action, but away from the noise.
If you want to spend your day OUT going to restaurants, etc., this would work for you. Reason is that this place is DARK inside, unlike the photos. Every surface is medium gray (walls, woodwork, bedding, etc.) Very dark interior shutters that you won't want to open for privacy reasons. Only the small KITCHEN IS BRIGHT, which looks out on a lovely back yard that is shared. RE the owner, I had difficulty communicating with him, something I'd never experienced in my many other bookings. Rent this for the LOCATION.
My teenage son and I had a perfect stay in this in-law unit in a century-old house in a charming, walkable, convenient corner of Berkeley. The neighborhood is very quiet and full of tall, shady trees. We woke up every morning to the sound of birdsong. Neighborhood highlights include a place that makes Mexican-style chocolate on the premises, numerous good restaurants, a pet store specializing in birds (plus adoptable kittens in the window), a theater showing non-current movies, a wine shop, a spectacular spirits retailer called Cask (a half-mile away), and more dessert and coffee spots than I could mention. Whole Foods less than a mile away. Even the donut shop is historic.
The unit has all the right amenities, from kitchen to bathroom to bed to cable TV--even convenient parking (a nice touch in a neighborhood that requires permits for street parking). Plenty of ventilation from windows that opened, negating the need for A/C even on a hot day (there's radiant heat for colder days). Good internet access--fast enough to bring along some work with you.
The apartment was sparkling clean and everything worked. And James, the owner, was friendly, helpful, and responsive. We would have liked to have seen more of the resident black cat, Zoe, who visited the kitchen just once, but that's up to the cat (isn't it always?).
Highly recommended for people planning a campus visit to UC-Berkeley, not far away by either bike or bus. Easy connection to BART by bus as well, and just a few minutes' drive to freeways through Oakland, toward San Francisco, or through the Caldecott Tunnel toward Contra Costa County.
It's such a elegant/beautifully decorated and cozy apartment at a very charming / safe neighborhood. The apartment has everything you would need or ask for and it's very clean and comfortable. Location is excellent, it's so close to San Francisco but you could stay away from all the noise. It's within walking distance to UC Berkeley and a lot of shops/restaurants. It's only a short driving to San Francisco.
The owner, Mr. James is so nice and personable, very easy going and knowledgeable about a lot of things. We truly enjoyed the comfortable stay and had wonderful time. Definitely recommend it and would love to come back in the future!
I took my son to attend Berkeley's overnight stay program for accepted students and I am so glad to have found this place! Being from out of state and totally new to Berkeley, I wanted a safe, clean, quiet, comfortable and convenient place for our 5-night stay. This place met all my needs and exceeded our expectations in terms of convenience. We enjoyed walking to campus and surrounding areas. Had a lot of fun checking out the nearby restaurants and cafes. We even took the BART one day to SFO. James, the owner, is a very kind and gracious person, and gave us a ride to the nearest station so we could take the BART to SFO airport on our check out day. I highly recommend this place. Thank you, James!
We just returned from over a week at this property. The house is older, in a charming neighborhood, easily walkable to the shops in Elmwood and less than a mile from the southern end of the UC Berkeley campus. The apartment is a short walk (probably a mile) from the BART station in Rockridge. There are also AC transit busses running along College Ave. We were in Berkeley for our son's graduation and the apartment worked well for our stay. The neighborhood is safe and very quiet at night. The internet in the apartment was reliable and fast. The listing was well described but we were surprised at the layout of the apartment which is train car style. You walk into a small TV room with a couch, then into the bedroom, then into the bathroom and then into the kitchen. So to get to the kitchen you have to go through the bathroom. Overall, this was Ok for us but could be inconvenient. The kitchen and bathroom are adequate, but the tile and grout in the shower are older. The apartment was very clean. The mattress/pillows (firm but comfortable) and bed linens are newer and there were plenty of newer towels. The owner met us at the apartment on arrival and was very personable. We had no issues during our stay but he lives upstairs so we knew he would be easily accessible. There was off street parking available in the driveway, which was great. We recommend the Elmwood Cafe for coffee, breakfast and lunch and also had very nice meals at Rick and Ann's (great breakfast), the Wood Tavern (terrific dinner), Gregoire (the best takeout ever), Julia's (historic Berkeley City Club, good meal, spotty service), Zachary's (odd but delicious pizza), Venus and La Note (for breakfast, but we liked Venus better than La Note!), La Farine (for extraordinary baked goods, especially their fruit tarts and the local favorites - swiss twinkies and morning buns), Great China (fantastic Chinese food), and Chez Panisse, of course! We did not get to Sliver or the Cheeseboard or Artichoke on this trip, but can recommend all for pizza. The Berkeley farmers market (Saturdays) is incredible as is the Berkeley Bowl. In Berkeley, we went to the top of the Campanile on the UC Berkeley campus and heard the bell concert (fantastic), went to the Rose Garden and also drove up Grizzly Peak Road for the views. If we return to the area, we would definitely consider staying at this property again.
This is a very nice place - quiet and safe part of town, but close to amenities (bakery, etc) and 15-20 minute walk to Cal-Berkeley campus. Furnishings are nice, and the owner provided breakfast fixings so it's essentially a bed and breakfast. Owner lives next door and is quiet but very friendly.
