-Optional pool heat ($250/wk) means the pool will be inviting to all guests year around.
-The cove, nicknamed Bioluminescence Bay, is one of the most unique eco-systems in the world, with glow-in-the-dark phytoplankton and luminescent marine life... lighting up the bay most every night if disturbed by kayaks or paddleboards. The cove is also perfect for boating, kayaking, or just lounging on your beach while taking in the views.
-The best barefoot swimming beach in Cayman Kai and the Rum Point Club—offering watersports, drinks, lunch and dinner—are diagonally across the street 200 yards.
-Great Escape’s interiors are clean and modern, with cool tile floors and modern decor.
-Plenty of windows and sliding glass doors open onto the pool area and fill the home with sunlight.
-The gorgeous kitchen is just off of the front porch, offering an eclectic dining table, bar seating, granite countertops, and the full range of modern stainless appliances (oven, range with hood, dishwasher, full-size refrigerator). Cookware, dishware, cutlery, and coffeemaker are all provided.
-The large, beachfront screened porch has lounges chairs and a ping pong table, so guests can play or just relax without losing the breeze.
-The cove behind Great Escape it is more for boating than swimming, and has a private dock if you decide to rent a boat or hire a private charter during your stay. The cove bottom is soft and there are no corals to attract the fish… so for barefoot swimming or snorkeling, guests simply walk across the street to the sandy beach.

Beautiful location. Well appointed home. Perfect for 6 adults with space to gather and space to linger peacefully and privately.
My family of four, two teenagers and two adults stayed at the property and it was perfect. The home was very clean and the perfect layout for hanging out. We really enjoyed the outdoor area around the pool and the screened in porch...very private so we could play music and hang late if we wanted. We used the paddle board and the two kayaks everyday to cruise up and down the inlet. Really nice being so close to Rum Point...yes, just a walk away to see the ocean, grab a bite to eat or relax with a drink. People very friendly and nice.
Nothing negative but I will mention that we were there the first week of June (start of rain season) and if the wind was not blowing, the mosquitos were a problem. All the outdoor restaurants came to the table with bug spray just in case. We had lots of ocean air so was only a problem one evening. I would definitely stay at Rum Point versus Seven Mile Beach for the privacy and beauty. Great vacation.
My family of ten stayed at the Great Escape in July 2014 for one week. We had three adult couples who stayed in the main house and in the cottage four female cousins aged 20, 16, 16 and 7. This house was perfect for us and we all loved it!! I cannot say enough about this house, the island, and Rum Point Beach! We used the paddle board and kayaks every day and just loved the pool area. We barbecued a few times and had whatever we needed in the kitchen. The store is about a 20 minute drive. Be advised that everything is closed on Sundays. We were met upon arrival by a nice woman who showed us around the house and gave us information we needed for the week. The beds were comfortable, the house was very clean, the grounds were beautiful. It was a perfect vacation and we cannot wait to come back to this wonderful house. My family plans on visiting again soon!! You will be very happy you rented this house in the quiet, beautiful area of Cayman Kai.
Our family of four had the most wonderful week at Great Escape. The house was perfect in every way. With its open floor plan and large bedrooms, we were very comfortable. The amenities are fantastic from the well stocked kitchen to the immense amount of beach and bath towels. Our 8 and 5 year olds loved swimming in the large L-shaped pool multiple times a day. The outdoor dining table next to the water was our favorite spot for dinner. This side of the island is much quieter than the Seven Mile Island, which we loved. We walked to Rum Point almost every day to go to the beach, grab lunch or rent jet skis. I would recommend stocking up on groceries at the larger grocery store near the airport so that you can just relax. You will never want to leave.
This home is located a few hundred feet down the road from Rum Point, so the main beach is within <5 minute walk from house. The street in front is a very quiet road, as is the bay behind the house. One can walk a considerable distance out into bay across the road from front of house and still be only waste deep in the water. A very tranquil location. The house is more appropriately a Villa, with very large rooms, fantastic front and back porch and the bedrooms very comfortable. Everything in the house works. It was a perfect fit with room left over for 6 adults and 2 small children. Pool is great for children as it is mostly in the 3' depth range. It is located several miles from other amenities, like stores and gas, but one goes to Rum Point to get away, not be in the middle of the crowds and action over at 7 Mile.
A very clean home, with just about every appliance and kitchen item on hand, plenty of towels for bath and beach were provided.
Only a few items in need of repair, if one wishes to be really picky.... None of this distracted from the stay in the least, but being a handyman I notice things.... Patio door is sticky, which the extra pull required to move door has worn out the handle, hard for 4-5 year olds to pull open. Screen to right of outside patio door is torn from frame, so insects could get in, but didn't notice many anyway. Some door hinges have nails for pins so door is off center a tad for closing easily (main bath in center of house). Microwave door hits framing, it should be lifted just a bit. It can be confusing trying to find all the light switches for all the outside lighting - when wishes to really be picky when setting mood lighting. Like I said this is really picky stuff.
The house is great, the location is great, couldn't ask for more. Oh, and be ready for constant bird singing. The most difficult decision is where to set to relax and enjoy the views.
We just returned from a week at this beautiful property. I cannot say enough about the villa. It was gorgeous and the pictures don't do it justice. We had a group of 6 adults and 2 kids under the age of 5. The kids LOVED the huge pool - it provided a really nice alternative to the beach. The lagoon side was gorgeous as well with plenty of sand to play in and shady spots to just sit and relax- it is just steps to the beach too. The property is just lovely with plenty of places to sit outside and inside for dining with a group. We were steps from Rum Point beach and that was really nice as well when we wanted to be in a less secluded environment.
We would highly recommend this property if you are thinking of staying on this side of the island. We really felt that we had the best location in relation to getting to the beaches and the restaurants. The property itself is just gorgeous and was way beyond our expectations. Plenty of room for everyone - the bedrooms are very spacious and beautifully decorated. The kitchen is large and was great for a group as well.
We cannot wait to come back again!
The entire island is only 22 miles wide from west to east; so you are never too far from anywhere on Grand Cayman. The cove-front homes in “Cayman Kai” (within Rum Point) offer calm serene water for docking a rental boat, permitting charter captain pick-up or just safe shallow water for little children. Adults won’t swim in the cove (rum point is too nice by comparison) —the water is shallow and has a softer bottom and there is no reef here for fish life...but AT GREAT ESCAPE...the best white sand beach is literally right out the front door. You get the boest of both worlds at Great Escape; a private backyard, pool and boat dock access...as well as proximity to the Rum point Club...AND a perfect beach across the street. The beaches are flat white barefoot sand. There is usually little breeze here to speak of. Many homes in Cayman Kai offer a screened porch. The big draw to this area is the proximity to the “Rum Point Club”; a public beach club that offers a fantastic barefoot beach…many watersports, a restaurant, bar, grill, gift shop and pick-up beach volleyball games. (www.rumpointclub.com ) It is from the Rum Point pier that the www.redsailcayman.com 65’ catamaran departs to stingray sandbar for snorkeling trips. Also near Rum Point is the Kaibo Yacht Club restaurant, bar and marina (www.kaibo.ky). Just a great neighborhood dotted with million-dollar oceanfront villas. Click our map on the home page. Lastly…about 20 minutes east we have (2) large resorts in the east end (www.morritts.com and www.thereef.com ) that offer manicured beaches as well as restaurants, a modern grocery store, liquor store, gift shops, SUBWAY sandwich shop (and even a coffee/pastry shop). These two resorts also offer scuba, snorkel trips, jet skis, windsurfers, kiteboarding, ocean front pools and bar service. www.tortugadivers.com and www.whitesandwatersports.com offer snorkeling tours, paddle boards, jet skis, etc.
