About Mike

We are semi retired couple. We are the parents of the daughter with disability both physically and mentally. We built this wheelchair accessible house for the sake of disabled people in the world. We like music. So we put Yamaha baby grand piano for those want to enjoy music under the stars with jasmine fragrance.

Mike purchased this house in 2005

Why Mike chose Hawaii

We are nature lovers. We’ve traveled some places with great nature like Rocky mountain area, Great Reef in Australia, and pastoral area in Europe. But we concluded that nothing can be more luxurious than to enjoy green shower in Hawaii. Pahoa side of this island is definitely blessed with beautiful tropical vegetation with ohia trees.

What makes this house unique

“Sea Breeze”, a Hawaiian style Cedar House was built in 2005. It has high floor so the pleasant trade wind go through under it and wide windows allows the wind go through the entire house. It is 10 min. access to Hot Pond, where spring water mixes up with ocean water is our perfect spot for unwinding. Nearby we enjoy snorkeling with colorful tropical fish and coral reef.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We have had such a pleasant stay here at Angel House. Everything was great. Our only temporary setback was quickly resolved by Shin. We would highly recommend this rental to anyone interested in visiting the Big Island.

Thank you very much!

The property was kept clean, and the yard was awesome. We enjoyed picking lilikoi and lemon which were very juicy and fresh.

The property is near Pahoa where you can buy short lib plate dinner and there is KTA.

This house is a great place to enjoy Hawaiian tropical atomosphere at Hilo side of the big island.

Exceeded our expectations

  • 5 of 5

We were a family of 7, and stayed on the property for 5 nights. Suffice to say that the property was everything that we read about in the reviews, and much more. It is beautiful, spacious, and airy.

We were a bit concerned with how hot it felt when we arrived, but it cooled down considerably in a couple of hours after we opened all the sliding doors and windows. The place is very close to all the major attractions, including the tide pools, lava flows, volcano national park, Rainbow Falls, Akaka Falls, and the Keck observatory. Be prepared for the tropical environment, including the nightly serenade of the frogs and the invariable rains. The property itself is gorgeous, and you will find it to be the ideal relaxing place with total privacy. We arrived towards the end of August, and the guavas and occasional pineapple we found in the garden were heavenly. The kitchen has everything that you can hope for. We found quite a few items that you normally would not find in other rentals, and realized that families who rent this place typically leave behind items that are not used up and would be too heavy to carry back (soaps, detergents, creams, shampoos, spices, cooking oil, baby oil, sunscreen lotion, etc.). We did follow the tradition and left behind a few items as well. The TV in the living room did not turn on as per the written instructions, but once I unhooked the power and turned it back on, it worked.

If you are here on a Sunday, DO NOT miss the farmers market as it is quite an experience. Most of the stalls are run either by native Hawaiians or folks with spiritual leanings who emigrated here from the mainland. Awesome food at very reasonable prices. Pahoa village is very eclectic and very "hippy", but we found a gem of a place, a literal hole in the wall, that made excellent chicken and vegan items at truly reasonable prices (I will let you search and find the place on Yelp and Trip Advisor). They even stayed open for an extra half hour when we called on our way back from the volcano park.

Finally, I would like to thank Mike Sekino and his family for sharing their home with us and other families. We could feel the love and care with which they built this home, and feel blessed to have had the opportunity to stay here.

The angel house was awesome. It's very quiet you only hearing the birds. The garden was amazing. We loved to sit in the morning on the patio with our coffee and to look an the green around us. The house is well maintained, big and very clean. Mike, the owner, answered all our questions very quickly and gave us a great customer service. We definitely recommend this property for every body that intend to go to the big Island.

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five, two parents and three adult children stayed at Angel House for four nights to attend a nearby Ohana Reunion. We couldn't have been happier with this beautiful home. Our only complaint would be that we did not have enough time in the home since our reunion went from morning until night! Next time we will stay longer. The house was beautiful....large, clean, comfortable, and it had everything we needed. The grounds were incredible! We enjoyed eating a pineapple the we picked, we loved sitting out on the wrap-around lanai, and we loved the rain showers that came and went quickly. The nightly serenade from the frogs was amazing.Truly, a little piece of paradise!

Meticulously designed property with smartly placement of front/back yard and varies of plants

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the Angel house very much. The setup of the house (convenience of the Kitchen and all the items needed for a family living). The house has everything you need for family living and more (some of nice kitchen items and convenient household tools/instructions will event surprise a general family man/woman). The surroundings are so nice, quiet and enjoyable. It is just like a house which has been lived by a family constantly. Therefore, some items such as sheets or towels may not be well maintained to everyone's personal liking. Overall, it is a very good representation of the east side of the Big Island, lush tropical plants and serenity. Its location closes to volcano national park and Hilo area attractions and couple of farmers markets. Any needs of help was responded promptly by Mr. Suzuki with great respect of our time and space. Every member of our family likes the experience very much. We will highly recommend this place for any family visit on Big Island.
