About Robin Riker

Born and raised in Colorado I learned to water and snow ski, fish, hunt and camp out at an early age. When my career brought me to Arizona I continued those activities in the beautiful White Mountains.

Robin Riker purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Robin Riker chose Lakeside

My parents came to live with me from Colorado in the Phoenix area in 2000. During the summer they would park their motor home in the White Mountains to get out of the heat. The limited space in the motor home made it cramped during summer visits and was not an option for winter visits. So began the search for a real log cabin!

What makes this cabin unique

Having the security of a hospital close by for my aging parents and a regional airport for easy access were important factors in choosing the Pinetop/Lakeside area. Convenient access to skiing, fishing and hunting enabled me to pursue my interests. The bonus was getting all the extras; casino, shopping, movie and live theater, night life, restaurants and special events year round.

My parents enjoyed the cabin as their summer home and parked their 34 foot motor home for guests next to the open paved patio. After 11 years my parents moved back to Colorado to live with one of my sisters and Little Bear Log Cabin became a vacation rental in late August 2011 with the first guest booking for Labor Day Weekend. Sharing Little Bear Log Cabin with others restores it purpose now that my parents have moved away.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This was our second stay at Little Bear and once again found it to be totally delightful. This time I stayed back at the cabin and did crafts while the boys ventured off to the Run To The Pines Car Show which was only 15 minutes away. Such a cozy place and so well organized with just about everything you could ask for in a getaway vacation.

I then decided it was time for some exercise and ventured out to take a good walk and found the surrounding scenery so beautiful from fields of beautiful wild flowers to seeing someones corral of horses - so much beauty out there in Pinetop to enjoy.

The owner is so easy to communicate with and so very well organized that I even asked for what system and paperwork she uses to use on my own VRBO property on the East Coast.

Great place to stay with a very nice owner! Thank you again for a wonderful weekend....

Wonderful Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We really liked this cabin and definitly plan to return. It was decorated picture perfect and Robin was so helpful. We made a special request and she took care of it right away. We hiked, went to the movies, bbq'd, had wood fires in the rock fireplace. Thanks for sharing your cabin with us.

Meticulously maintained cabin but be aware of unique owner regulations

  • 4 of 5

The cabin is a small but meticulously maintained and presented cabin. It is clear that the owner takes great pride in the property, and provided thoughtful touches to make the stay enjoyable. The main bedroom bed was comfortable, and the second bedroom is well sized for 2 - 4 adults. The pictures accurately depict the cabin.

For those that have used VBRO, you should be aware that the property comes with a very long list of do's and don'ts -- more than I have ever seen in any property I have rented. Specifically, the owner requires that you agree to an addendum that is not present on the initial listing page. Close to your time of check in, you will also be presented with a additional 4 page document that lists additional regulations. You should be aware that the additional document attempts to waive liability for any injuries caused by the Owner's negligence.

In addition to VBRO fees, the owner will deduct a credit card fee of 3.4% on your entire bill. I have never encountered this in a VBRO property, and you should be aware of it.

If this type of thing does not bother you, then the lovely cabin will meet your expectations.

Owner's Response: I am disappointed you chose not to convey this to me during the many opportunities we interacted (emails, telephone). All the information is on our website for all to see and in our rental agreement (which must be read BEFORE reserving the cabin), nothing being hid or disclosed at the last minute. I would have liked the opportunity to allay your concerns; my goal is to provide the best possible experience for all our guests. Our rental agreement and the 4-page document sent to every guest prior to check-in are the SAME document. The only difference, the guest specific access code and cabin address are provided within the document prior to check-in. Nothing in our agreement attempts to waive liability for any injuries caused by the owner's negligence, nor are there any undisclosed addendums outside the rental agreement. It was unfortunate you chose to cut your stay short due to lack of snow and upset I offered a free rent return stay instead of a refund of monies for those days.
